So, you didn't actually read the article I take it?
Religious nutters predicting the end of the world are as old as the human race. Whereas it was previously mostly quasi Christians predicting the return of Jesus Christ, we now have "religion of science/climate change" nutjobs predicting our imminent demise.
With so many "climate catastrophe X will occur by Y-date if we don't do Z" predictions having been proven to be bogus (because we've safely reached Y-date, without X occurring and without having bothered to do Z), climate alarmists have about as much credibility as Chicken Little.

He's right; climate change is beneath everything else & if we fail to change our ways & repair the damage done as far as possible, then nothing else matters. We'll be unable to end poverty, end pandemics or make a start on fixing all that's wrong with our world because we'll be struggling to survive.
If the survey he mentions is right then 98% of us want action taken on climate change & its politicians who are standing in the way....

Also, the UN climate chief is a bit of a rookie alarmist; 2 years is a stupid time-frame as he'll be proved wrong way too quickly. If he was smart, he'd have picked 5 or 10 years because he'd then have moved on before his prediction date passed (without whatever he's predicting having happened).

well they're guilty of being Alarmists for sure and with good reason, humans are notorious for kicking the can down the road...
But it is a bit like trying to predict when the next big earthquake is going to hit - Science tells us irrefutably that it is going to happen, but just a bit more difficult to pin down a date...
The changes heralding this inescapable event are now all around us in the news everyday.
Common sense tells you that the world cannot support 8 billion idiots tooling around without a care in the world, encouraged by capitalism to destroy their own world in the hunt for profits and increasingly high returns on stock market issues and payouts.
Give it another 10 years and the screaming will start together with questions of "why weren't we told about the coming catastrophe"?
The name "Greenland" was a marketing stunt by Erik the Red, who wanted to attract settlers. It was not "green" at the time.

Except religious nutters weren't able to show the hard evidence for their claims. Climate science is now established, James Lovelock's 1970s Gaia theories now rest on solid ground, researched, and proven to be true.
So far, the same cannot be said for religious dogma.
Both groups of proponents however, do share one element of thought - concern for the continuation of our species. Religion though offers the potential comfort of an after life. Climate science? Not so much.

Humans are intelligent enough to develop the technologies that can both trash our ecosphere and also reverse that damage. The problem is that TPTB all too often can't see the economic gains that the latter will give us as they are too busy counting the gains from the former.

Mind you though, to be fair - it must be difficult to see over those mountains of cash...
