The ship was originally a survey vessel for the oil and gas industry, entering service in 2003 as MV Edda Fonn. She was purchased for the Royal New Zealand Navy in 2018, and commissioned as HMNZS Manawanui on 7 June 2019.

So essentially a 'second hand Corolla'  Sad

I see she has storage capacity for over 1.1 million litres of marine oil (diesel) so likely to result in quite a significant spillage depending on how full she was when she sunk.

It's OK it's signature class.

The rumour I am hearing is it was related to some sort of mechanical failure where they lost control, not going to share any more details than this, but I guess it will all come out in due course.

With positions of responsibility come repercussions if you get it wrong. Too often that aspect of seniority isn't appreciated (Did I really say Luxon out loud? Rolleyes )

Not sure he understands the meaning of responsibility, at least not where he's concerned... Rolleyes

Luxon knows he's just not concerned, there will always be collateral damage when money making goes full speed ahead.

The fate of vulnerable defenseless animals or poor people are par for the course, after all it's what's always been done in the past, look how many animals have already gone extinct or are on the verge of it due to human business activity from long ago.

You may well be right; he certainly doesn't make much of an effort to trying to appear concerned.

People of his ilk may be the ones to finally see an end to our species - as long as they have their cash to keep them warm, they're none too bothered. Rolleyes

We'll be blocking the ventilation pipes of their underground bunkers here, that's already been said about the ones down in Queenstown.
