I assume from this, and from the comments on the post, that intersex in this case is synonymous with hermaphrodite (in some cases it seems). Typically this has been 'rectified' by choosing a gender and removing the conflicting equipment, which is usually a choice made by the parents and irreversible. The stigma related to such abnormalities and therefore secrecy involved definitely doesn't help the situation for all involved and as ~1.7% of the population are likely to be born intersex an issue that would be far better brought out of the shadows which sympathetic recognition in legal standing would help address.
