RE: You can never have enough... - zqwerty - 24-01-2024 Yes immediately you try this way you realize that the other way is just wrong. RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 25-01-2024 morning ladies Hopefully the day will stay nice and cool, it was lovely yesterday. As kids we wore elastic bands over our pants when riding our bikes. They worked, not flash but they did the trick. We're having a quiet day today, MrK is having his hair cut and that's about it. The gardens are weeded thanks to the cool day yesterday and I'll mow the lawn shortly. Over the last couple of days I've hemmed the fabric and have used a running stitch to mark out the center, and now am thinking what if I hardanger the edges and embroider the pohutukawa in the middle rather than around the edges. So now I'm in two minds about my design. This is the bit I hate, where I start doubting myself. It's a matter of making the decisions and getting on with it. Happy crafting RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 25-01-2024 Morning all Cool start to day and shouldn't get too hot later Like sound hardager edging KM Volunteer day so mor ing spoken for, need to stock up fridge so food hunt this afternoon, DD wants us to go to 2nd viewing of a house they looking at later this afternoon so the day is filled. Enjoy your day RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 25-01-2024 Good morning everyone Isn't it lovely not being over hot. Two days have made such a difference for me lol I enjoyed sewing yesterday, just have the elastic to thread and adjust tomorrow. I hope Bobbie likes the skirts . they are mainly cream and pink but there are some tiny mauve flowers, she loves Mauves and Lavendars. Shopping today. Was talking to Maureen last night and told her about the Birdseye / BlueBird? Fish cakes I buy and she wants me to get her some too. Anything to tempt Patch to eat. He's lost a lot of weight. Hospital wants to fatten him up a bit before they let him home, and hes now ringing Maureen and wanting to come home. I get to take my time, not having to rush home to make a phone call. A week gone already. I did enjoy being able to do what I wanted yesterday. I might make a couple of aprons out of the last piece of fabric, that I used yesterday. I ended up having to use the slightly larger piece for Bobbie. Need to find a pattern for a long one that goes over the head. Ohhh although I have an apron my father used to wear that might just do the trick actually. Glad the Fish arrived safely Hunni. How exciting.. Im yearning to have another Bird. I Love cockatiels, and teaching them to talk and whistle. MrP used to hate the volume that I could get them to whistle and talk. lol Id love a big cage to make it easier to clean it. Maybe one Day Have a fab day everyone RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 25-01-2024 Lawns are mowed and I need to shower, all hot and sweaty. Yep, you needed to know that lol. Amazing how the fishies travelled. I'm sure they will do well under your care, OHH Exciting to have babies too. Yep, mica, I'm leaning towards a hardanger edging. Just as well I draw my ideas first or there would be a lot of thread wasted. Dishes first, then shower. By then MrK should be back from his haircut and ready for a cuppa. RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 25-01-2024 You sound a bit like me,KM with your self doubt - I find myself deleting stuff sometimes but not so much lately because instead I've learned to alter things, do another version of the painting, which is what I'm working on now. Not so easy for you to alter things, though. Did back lawn, very dry so not much growth & didn't take too long, then a bit more weeding & noticed there are elderberries ripening so picked some to freeze for the birds in winter. I usually put some in a bird ball for them. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 25-01-2024 When I was doing the final year at TLC, I had an incredible tutor, Peter Adsett, who is a kiwi Oz resident abstract painter of some weight. We had a really interesting discussion on the value of doubt in creative work. His position was it woke us up to our intuitive feelings, ones we might be ignoring. It became a very useful little bit of knowledge for me in my practice, in that instead of letting it stymie, or block my working on a project it actually made me focus harder to find the source of the doubt. Useful, and not just in creative practice. It might just have innoculated me against scammers, lol... RE: You can never have enough... - Jan - 25-01-2024 I used to drive my old boy mad unpicking stuff because it wasn’t quite right - I have several bins of wool and different other bits and pieces that haven’t made the cut - when I was going through my amigarumi (spelling is wrong ) was a particularly bad period .But I decided when I started the Dr Seuss blanket made myself a promise to just plough on - I am at row 223 of 240 and have stuck to my promise to myself - but it’s been a difficult project to stick to - if my eldest son hadn’t asked me if he could have it it would have found itself in the projects destined not to ever see the light of day long ago - Weird day here today certainly warmer - unfortunately the promised rain didn’t arrive but we had a good earthquake early morning - centred where my sons farm is - he said the nanny goat went berserk and woke him just before the quake it - he often claims she is an incarnated witch - she is diabolical .They has a lot of stuff come down off shelves and one chimney has cracked but the old farm house is well built Have just resigned from the school breakfast club -first started helping out 17 years ago -but it’s just got too depressing - have told them I will help out if they are short but don’t want to be on the roster .Have lost a lot of confidence since that mongrel gave me a shove - not driving much - Hunni how many kms do go from home on your wheels? Well done that goat. Jan, don't let somone affect you & prevent you doing something you enjoy. There are mongrels everywhere & they don't deserve to be given that much power, so if you want to continue, then do so & to hell with the mongrel. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 25-01-2024 (25-01-2024, 01:02 PM)JanW Wrote: I used to drive my old boy mad unpicking stuff because it wasn’t quite right - I have several bins of wool and different other bits and pieces that haven’t made the cut - when I was going through my amigarumi (spelling is wrong ) was a particularly bad period .But I decided when I started the Dr Seuss blanket made myself a promise to just plough on - I am at row 223 of 240 and have stuck to my promise to myself - but it’s been a difficult project to stick to - if my eldest son hadn’t asked me if he could have it it would have found itself in the projects destined not to ever see the light of day long ago - My Neo has a range of around 40 kilometres on a charged new battery, but I have never pushed it that far. I have been to Takapuna then back then to Devonport and back on the same day, including loading with groceries and library books and there was still plenty of charge left. So that would be about 15 kays including a few gnarly hills. I was more shaken than the scoot, truthfully. And my beast is an older second hand model, albeit with a newish battery. You can get some much better machines these days with better power, all depends on budget, but - when I replace this one (end of this year fingers crossed) I will be looking for one that has seat suspension. Of all its disadvantages, that is my number one. They can be bone shakers on badly maintained footpaths. Oh, and solid tyres so I never have to wheel it to a mechanic with a blown tyre ever again lol. Jan, my scoot is the best thing in my life, aside from the blessing of a council flat, lol. I can go anywhere I choose, within reason, or get to public transport if I want to venture further. Without it I would have to depend on others and life would be much more expensive too. I have had one several times over the past twenty odd years, since the accident required rebuilding a leg, so I am very at home with using them. Honestly, more people should get them, they are a really good alternative to running a car, especially as we age. Oh, and get a pretty one. It's good for the ego, lol. And four wheels - more stable! RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 25-01-2024 (25-01-2024, 02:49 PM)Oh_hunnihunni Wrote:MrP had one I loved it. He kept falling off it.. His own balance not the scooter. I plan on having one when needed too. Ive seen them made for couples. And people who have had trailers made for them. Theres 3 at the first resthome. one is a 3 wheeler and looks more like a Motorbike. but I prefer four wheels too very much safer(25-01-2024, 01:02 PM)JanW Wrote: I used to drive my old boy mad unpicking stuff because it wasn’t quite right - I have several bins of wool and different other bits and pieces that haven’t made the cut - when I was going through my amigarumi (spelling is wrong ) was a particularly bad period .But I decided when I started the Dr Seuss blanket made myself a promise to just plough on - I am at row 223 of 240 and have stuck to my promise to myself - but it’s been a difficult project to stick to - if my eldest son hadn’t asked me if he could have it it would have found itself in the projects destined not to ever see the light of day long ago - RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 26-01-2024 morning ladies We have a lovely cool start to the day today MrK is out watering the vegies. Today I'm relying on the powers-that- be for today's rain for the rest of the garden. Animals sense earthquakes and know something is going to happen. Just before the big Christchurch earthquakes, my sister's dog and every dog on her street started barking. This was in Cambridge! They couldn't figure out why until they heard the news and compared the timing. I really like your theories about self doubt, OHH. It does make me double and even triple check my ideas and even the maths in working it all out. It also happens when my head is stuffed with ideas and I can't decide. Yesterday after a few stops-starts, I started the table runner. Hardanger for the edging which meant unpicking the hem I had done. Luckily there was no drawn thread. I love the preciseness of Hardanger and with 2.1 meters of fabric, this will certainly test my skills. Thank goodness it's only 30cm wide. We were talking with one of my sisters-in-law and she was saying she had been called for jury service for the sixth time. She asked if she had an arrow pointing from the sky down at her saying pick me! pick me! lol But they assured her it was random. She's very happy she didn't get through but had to go back twice. Housework today then some stitching. happy crafting. RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 26-01-2024 Morning Everyone Another lovely cooler night. Loving it. Had a nice day taking my time yesterday. Not that I window shopped or anything, but it was nice taking my time and saving the knee. Maureen was thankful that I was able to get her some fishcakes. Birdseye brand, they are yummy. Ill get me some next time I see them. Off to see the girls today. Bloods first of course. I hope Bobbie likes her new skirts. Apparently she didn't eat much yesterday. I've told RH David that she actually eats a little more if we dont get on her case so we are trying that. Hard cos we care but we have to work with what works. I must do a bit more reading about dementia, and if it becomes like the same sort of struggles that Anorexics have with food. They had a residents meeting yesterday. Not sure if any of ours went cos its always the same. Management hear but Don't listen. I really wish they had a different manager. Im sure things would change a lot. Gosh the lawns have grown. The back needs doing again, 7 days tomorrow. Have a fab day everyone RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 26-01-2024 Good morning. Nice and sunny but so nice with the cooler temperature. Another one here who is big on self doubt in quite a few areas. I like the theory that it helps to think deeper about those hidden feelings in order to overcome the doubt. My FIL probably lived to 102 because of his scooter! It gave him a new lease on life once he bought it. I have every intention of using one if the need arises. Nothing planned for today. We shall leave early tomorrow for the afternoon wedding taking a SIL with us. Enjoy the day all. RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 26-01-2024 Morning all fine sunny day - enjoyed the cooler night Oh the old frozen by indecision that's me when trying to decide of design stuff. Visited the house DD and DSIL are looking at - nice house, beautiful views but steep section and would be difficult to fence for their big k9 not to mention the very steep, long road to get to it. Not my decision. Off to the quilt shop when DH gets back from walking the k9s, plan on calling into Bata shop while over that side of town fancy some new summer sandals. Neighbour is back from holiday and their courgettes are marrows - we have been gifted one so will process that into something. enjoy your day RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 26-01-2024 Housework is done and I have been booted out of the kitchen so MrK can freeze some beans he has picked. Scooters are awesome! Dad used one and took The Fluffy One for 'walks' on it lol. She would sit at his feet happy as larry lol. My sister uses one now thanks to arthritis in her knees and thanks to Dad's 'training', the Fluffy One happily has more rides on the scooter. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 26-01-2024 I passed a guy on an electric wheelchair on Wednesday, he had a pup on board. 'Not fair!' I said in passing 'I want a puppy too!' He laughed and yelled after me 'I want your speed!' We scooter folk have a lot in common, and really enjoy sharing the fun. Wonderful machines. They ought to be cheaper so more can have them... RE: You can never have enough... - Jan - 26-01-2024 Thanks for the info Hunni - have asked for some info from the sellers for the kids - they are both pretty busy at the moment so will have all my ducks in a row so they can help me make the right decision .I checked what my car would be worth - will get my grandson to list it and sell it privately might be able to get a bit more for it .Normally I would just say sell my car and buy me a scooter but the son involved in exporting is frantically trying to find alternative shipping options - the price per container has already increased 10fold - and the drama for the other one at the supermarket never ends - today security saw a repeat offender enter the shop who had already been trespassed which makes it robbery if he steals again - so they called the police who luckily were only 2 mins away - they arrested him and found a pistol tucked in his trousers - it’s so scary - it’s the staff or the customers who are at so much risk .At least when facial recognition gets installed he won’t make it in the door Just been out to water my garden there is a distinct nip in the wind but lovely in the sun Pleased to see Kiri looking so healthy and happy RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 27-01-2024 Morning ladies We may have rain today, fingers crossed! My sister-in-law bought a scooter that was collapsable and could fit easily into her car. After she died, one of my other sisters-in-law kept it for any family member to use it if they needed it. Omg Jan, a pistol! I can only imagine what he was going to do with that. So scary. My heart just broke for Kiri when we watched her interview and could feel the tears coming. I hope she finds peace within herself and whatever ventures she becomes involved in. I know whatever she chooses to do, she will do it well. We're having another quiet day today. I'll do the ironing while the morning is cool and potter about. The outside windows still need doing so might do those while there is cloud cover. And work on the runner a bit more. Happy crafting RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 27-01-2024 Morning all Stormy here strong winds and heavy rain expected this morning. Got my white kona fabric sort of stocked up and found new pair Reiker sandals at Bata shop so successful day out. The stuffed marrow was tasty for dinner last night, got the other half to eat tonight so don't have to think about what to cook even better Got to pop feed sons cats then the the day is mine. Enjoy your day |
