I would hazard a guess that the owner of the motel was one of the many overseas owners who bought up motels when they realised how lucrative it became under the previous government to provide emergency motel accomodation - my nephew was being paid $650 per week per unit but Labour offered a new contract $2459 a week plus all damages fixed by the tax payer as long as he took HD bracelet wearers and allowed gang members to have an adjoining unit for their Harleys and their dogs - so he received $5300 a week for a gang family .If any damage occurred in any of the units he just had to get an invoice from a builder - nobody came and inspected the damage or if in fact the microwave had been stolen and he would be reimbursed .Unfortunately for him the incoming government has not renewed the very generous contract Labour offered with no negotiation - the gangs are no longer allowed two units but he can evict unruly tenants and National are only offering $530 a week which is the normal tariff - all the families have been moved out into houses so he is no longer going to accept bookings for emergency housing - he became a very wealthy man over the 5 years after investing very little capital - so I bet the lessees of the Hamilton motel made millions - they probably pocketed the repair reimbursements I hope the tax payers don’t have to pay again

But the government is after them Hunni - and what a lot of criticism they are receiving for bringing state servants and their willingness to waste valuable taxpayer funds to an end - look at the criticism lobbed at them when they halted school projects and housing projects that were in progress and already the chaos has been exposed -we paid to build 4 normal toilets at a school 1.5million - $10,000 fence we paid $545,00 and those appartments that supposedly cost 1.4 million to build- obviously backhanders .The $20 frozen lunches coming from Palmerston North to a school in Napier - a fish finger on a bed of shredded cabbage - the wasted money makes me so angry when people like Popeye has $55 - and don’t get me started on this non Māori v Māori that is infiltrating everything - Robies daughter applied to a uni hall of residence for next year - 650 applicants only 250 beds - was told to use her Māori heritage to jump  the queue - her father owns a bloody supermarket - yes be told to jump the queue if you need a hand up but just because of the colour of your skin - that’s not the kiwi way Rant over

I like affirmative action for Maori, and yes I know it gets abused. But the reality is there is so much racist crap built into our community and the way it is run that the few attempts to lift that burden and begin to level the playing field seem completely justified to me.

I never saw it before I had a Maori daughter, and was forced to see the world through her eyes. To experience the silent racism as I walked alongside her. It is real, it hurts, and it costs us all in ways we just do not pay enough attention to.

In my case, it means I lost my daughter to Australia. My daughter, my grandchildren, and they lost me. It's a hell of a price to pay. The funny (peculiar) thing about it is Oz is even more racist that we are. Just not towards Maori.

That's always struck me as being extremely odd too. Somehow Oz seems to have an entirely different category for Maori while being extremely racist toward native Australians, although that is changing very, very, very slightly lately.

A grandson & his partner are heading that way in the not too distant; she's Maori & there hadn't better be  even a tiny slight towrds her - grandson is a six footer, has a hefty build & does Tae kwon do..

They're going to work & make enough to buy a house here but of course both their families worry that they won't return once settled. She's the only daughter in the family too so they understandably want her here.

Affirmitive action will always be abused to some extent; that is just human nature whatever the racial heritage, & at the very least is considerably better than nothing.

Sorry about the rant but it really makes me angry 4 state servants could spend all that money in two weeks while Popeye ends up with $55

But while I am in the ranting mood why hasn’t somebody taken Netanyahu out - when he was addressing the UN last week was the perfect opportunity- something drastic needs to happen -

Rant Away Jan. We all need to do it. It helps.

And Im totally with you re Netanyahu.. he's two faced like a lot of country Leaders. Putin is another that needs his Long sleep. Had a Hissy cos Ukraine and the gall to fight back.. He is on the news now wearing a yellow Ribbon brooch. I wonder what that is for?

Did he expect them to sit and take it, like they deserved it.?

The Poll results didn't surprise me on Luxon not being considered  "In Touch" with his Voters..   um I could tell him my life and he wouldn't even understand it.

One of the  probably Petty things with him to me is, No one has dared call him Chris.. he's Christopher. Where Chris Hipkins is far more down to earth and approachable I think.

Just had my Fave meal.. Schnitzel salad and tattie's. But that's the meat for the week.. Its probably my most fave meal, even above a thick steak or anything more expensive lol.. Im so easily pleased. lol

Oddly Hunni Im sitting here waiting for a bill payment to go out.

I rang and said I was struggling and could they drop the payment a little, which they have said they would for 3 months.. if they take out the full amount Ill get a text and they will charge me for the od. Fun and games .. that we dont need

As Madame Le Dog & Madame Le Cat could tell you, I sometimes rant as well - & its usually because of idiot politicians. I try not to ill wish people but I'd be willing to make an exception for Putin & Netanyahu. in fact having read a bit about the Nazis & the Warsaw ghetto during WW2, I'd be very keen to hear Netanyahu explain exactly how the behavour of Israel's govt is in any way different to that.

There've been massive protests in Israel because so many Israelis don't want what's happening; at least they're not being whisked away to indefinite imprisonment as happened sot some of the Russian protesters.
We're idiots...

One of the things I like about this place is we are free to say what we like, without losing respect for each other. We are all so different, and yet we have a great deal in common. My life is richer because my online world expands it, and I am grateful for that blessing.

And I am still laughing about my banking disasters. Told a friend about it minutes ago on the phone and we both cracked up. It is the only sensible response, lol, and tomorrow she's shouting coffee and cake, so all is not lost!

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 16-10-2024

morning ladies Smile We've had the most gorgeous sunrise this morning. Really puts a smile on my face.

Oh yummmm, coffee and cake lol. You have a lovely friend, OHH. We need people like that in our lives. I think the secret to managing money stuff ups is to be upfront with banks and creditors. Explain what's happened and stick to your new agreement. And there is nothing like the feeling of that final payment.

I agree about these so-called leaders. Even Trump's rhetoric is becoming worse and so dangerous. The looneys out there will take him at his word again. I wonder how those that went to prison for the Jan 6 riots, feel about him now. We've been watching a doco on Aljazeera about the forming of Israel and how they cleared Palestine to make way for the Jewish people. The UN, America and Israel have a lot to answer to over this. You would think after WW2 the Jewish people, of all people in the world, would understand displacement and genocide. We noticed the yellow brooch Netanyahu was wearing as well, popeye. It reminded me of that song 'Tie a Yellow Ribbon..." and I wondered if it was for hope and remembrance. I see Nancy Pelosi has had a good go at him about not wanting peace. Now there's a woman who speaks her mind.

As for Luxon and his cronies, they are so far out of touch about how we live it's beyond a joke. And they don't give a rats over climate change or the environment. And don't get me started on Shane Jones.

There are a few things needing to be done in the garden, a couple of roses need tying up, a plant I planted over the top of the gerberas (oops, thought I had lost them lol) need moving and so on. The new rose, Legacy, is beginning to flower and I can't wait to see her blooms. It's hard to describe the colour so will just have to take a pic and inflict it on you here when it is fully open. Tongue

The practice butterfly I am working on is a bit of a disaster lol but that's what learning is all about, making mistakes and moving on.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 16-10-2024

Morning everyone

The sun is up and I doubt we will get the rain they mentioned.

Exactly Kiwimade, we can all rant here but none of us get offended. We all understand we are allowed our own opinion.

Makes you wonder how people like Trump, Netanyahu etc are raised. What their mothers must think about them now.

Had to laugh at the Auckland council wanting to change the rubbish collection.. For a start they should stop picking up New Plymouths Food waste and transporting up to Auckland. And as for the rest it just means people will store their bags and put double amounts fortnightly.. but there will be animals getting into bags etc.. Wonderful decision NOT lol.
I only use one bag every threeish weeks, mainly cos Im still getting rid of stuff not sellable or up to donating standards so I top the Rubish bags up.

As predicted, the finance company tried to take the full amount out, so I've emailed them and said they wont be able to get it until tomorrow now. I didn't grumble too bad at them, they have tried to help me, but this month , the first they have messed up lol.

Painting today so we will have fun.

Have an awesome day everyone

Morning all
Fine day nippy wind

Diversity in opinions makes for interesting discussions especially grateful we live where we have freedom to express.

Naughty bank/financial institutes taking $$ early very annoying.

Played with some fabric a zip making wee pouch for my clover clips. Like you KM its not perfect definitely  some room for improvement I plan on making another with some minor alterations one being using a zip longer than required to make stitching zip in and top stitching easier.

Been to gym just finished breakfast so need to shower and get on with my day . Out to lunch again today talk about feast or famine, out again tomorrow too so 3 days on the trot.

We have rose buds to and it will be interesting to see what the flower  looks like.

Enjoy your day

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 16-10-2024

Some thoughts - At one point after the War, there was talk of giving space for the Jewish homeland in Australia. Wonder what that would have done to history... Suggestions of space in Europe were shouted down, primarily by the UK, who was also a prime mover among the creation of Israel in the Middle East. Reading the various accounts of 'solving the Jewish problem' of that times leaves many questions, but I guess the one thing that never changes is the way no good deed ever goes unpunished...

The parallels between Trump and Netanyahu are striking. Both need to remain in power or risk prison sentences.

The thing with the final loan payment was it is a standard practice to make the final payment on the anniversary of the start date. It being out of sync with the fortnightly payment method was missed by both me and the bank, so not really anyone's fault. To be honest after twenty odd years in banking I should have been more on top of it. And if I hadn't been naughty and fallen for an impulse purchase at the weekend... One of those cascade errors I hope I learn from, lol! And a week long forty dollar overdraft isn't going to kill me or the bank, it was more the shock of the cascade that threw my usual budgetary calm out of whack.  Big Grin

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 16-10-2024

I've finished digging the garden edging and have a nice edge to mow along now. The birds wised up and are helping themselves to the longer pieces of weed and grass for their nests. I've binned most of it but have left some for them to pick over. I spotted one sparrow picking some fine long pieces off a groundcover. And some of my thread ends can be thrown onto the lawn for them as well.

I suppose your agreement for the loan is for x amount of months and they do to the day regardless of how your income falls each fortnight. We usually end up with odd amounts at the end so pay it before the due date.

Kettles boiled, time for a cuppa.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 16-10-2024

Timing is all. And particularly this time, when I had just been pondering the advantages of limited means, lol. Made it extra hilarious wiping the egg of my face!

RE: You can never have enough... - Jan - 16-10-2024

Just when I thought my knickers were beginning to untwist and the circulation was returning to my nether regions I heard about Trump and his thirty minute play list - he stood there swaying to sons like Nothing compares to U for 30 minutes! This idiot is running 50% in the polls - am I on some parallel universe
Crawling back under my rock

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 16-10-2024

God Help the world if trump gets back in.

And thank God Im not American either.

Had a nice time painting. Rest home Dianne and I finished the undercoat on the Pill container / Christmas bells. so now they can be decorated. There was a picture and name on the pill cups that came through so we undercoated them.. in excess of 200 apparently. They will be painted again and then hung on wool.

Colleen didn't come up to painting, cos RH Dianne was there. her excuse is she doesn't like sitting in her wheelchair now. and apparently she was complaining that she hadn't seen us. She knew where we were.

We were all in a good buoyant mood and that makes the time there far better.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 16-10-2024

Interesting interview on the Weekly Show podcast with Jon Stewart interviewing the Mayor of London. Especially when he suggested Americans should consider the effect of their vote on the rest of the world. 'What?' Jon Stewart asked - 'You mean think of other people? '

I do enjoy that man.

Btw, kudos to the ANZ. Came home from my subsidised coffee and cake to a 'loan variation' letter, and a restored credit balance. Fast work from the lending dept and appreciated. I can afford chocolate again...

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 16-10-2024

There could be a few of us needing space under your rock Jan, if that unhinged idiot becomes President in America again.

He's unbelievably bizarre & I cannot understand how anyone can support him. And I know that I'm far from being alone in being afraid for both the USA & the entire world if he gets voted in again.
If ever there was a whacko fruitloop nutter, it is that man. I believe that he's dangerous because he appears to be mentally ill in that he can't seem to comprehend the likely consequences of some of what he says he'll do.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 16-10-2024

Not so happy with my finance company. no word from them today.

And I've just depressed myself over my shopping list, only $50 this week aint going far.. Since the idiots messed up my payment.

I think I might huddle under a rock too

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 16-10-2024

That's great, OHH Smile Always good when they come to the party.

We saw Trump on the news, he has lost it, for sure. What a complete nutter. And people vote for him! Is there room for me as well under that rock?

On a happy note, I'm pretty sure I saw the comet this evening. Well, the tail end anyway. Saw a flash of blue/green Big Grin There are heaps of meteors out there, lots of whizzing about in the sky. Two weeks ago, I saw I meteor burning up in the sky so that's two things I can cross off my 'space' list.
