Morning everyone

Missy's alarm went off early cos Id left the window open beside me and she heard the bird's lol

Then to make my day even better they are talking about Christmas desserts on breakfast lol. My Fave baking.

A very small shopping list today. Thanks Finance company.. Not.. But Ill be able to feed Missy and mine will be basic but I wont starve.. And Oddly I remembered I have some fruit mince pies in the freezer so I might have some with custard at some stage lol.

Painting and crochet for me today too.

They had a story on breakfast about Conker's Competitions and perhaps a cheater... We used to play with Conker's.. There were trees in Thames at the North end of town that had huge Monkey Nut Conker's on them. I had no idea there were official competitions in England. The winner there has been accused of using a Metal one.

Have an awesome day everyone

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 17-10-2024

morning ladies Smile  What a gorgeous start to the day, sunny and calm.

We saw that story about the conkers on the news last night.  The officials are taking it very seriously and are/have been checking photos and video footage.  Who knew there was an official conkers competition.

MrK has made a small cross for my bestie who lost her dog a couple of weeks ago.  She's calling in sometime today to pick it up.  We haven't seen each other for a bit so will be good to catch up.

The spuds MrK planted not that long ago are poking through the soil and have been covered again.  That horse poo must be doing the trick.  And the beans MrK started off are ready to be transplanted into the ground.  We've already given away a cabbage and lettuce to our neighbour, it looks like it's going to be a bumper year for the vegie garden.

Westerland is beginning to flower, you can't miss that rose lol.  And Dublin Bay is looking pretty good on the roadside.

Not a lot happening today, it will be nice to just cruise through the day without any hiccups for a change.

Happy crafting Smile

Good morning.

Sunny and calm, though still cool outside.

School time before long and then I need to grab a few groceries. Plan to be away this weekend so hoping for good weather.

Heaven help Americans if nut case Trump is in power. Surely the people behind him on that stage felt some sort of embarrassment at his cringe worthy performance.

Time to move.

Enjoy the day all.

My beans are also ready for new homes, I dropped a plant care package off to a friend yesterday. Salvia cuttings with lots of new growth, bean seedlings and a little trough of coloured lettuces - they are such fun to have ready for a leaf or two when salad days are truly here. That leaves me with twelve seedlings, maybe eight for me and a pot to give away.

I had leftover chicken in a salad last night, with nasturtium leaves and flowers, red silverbeet, italian parsley, mint, and new zealand spinach, all fine chopped and tossed together with tiny tomatoes, grapes, cornichons, and avocado. What a combination! And so pretty in the big blue and white bowl. Leftovers for lunch today, well chilled and marinated and waiting in one of my lovely new Kitchenaid lidded glass containers. The last of my stickers swapped for two more of the little ones - they are very useful, I have been able to add a bunch of less attractive plastic versions to the recycling bin. I really enjoyed that promotion from New World, not just for the containers. A couple of friends saved their stickers for me and it was fun comparing the sheets they handed over, with the ones I was filling it. For the life of me I cannot peel and stick those tiny things neatly into place, edges lined up and fitting squarely in the designated space. So my sheet looks like a dogs breakfast, as my father would say. But, my friend Su, hers is perfect. So, we are sitting at the cafe table and she hands over her neat sheet, I pull out my messy one, and our third companion offers a collection of stickers. Su looks at me and says - no, I cannot watch you do this... So I hand both sheets back to her and she fills in the gaps, neatly and tidily.

I cannot help but grin. And the older gentleman at the next table, who has been enjoying our madness smothers quiet amusement.

I do love my Wednesday witches.

Experts - usually boys of a certain age - marinate their conkers in secret sauce recipes, to harden them and make them as immune as possible to smashing. Then, they perfect their aim, so their opponents knuckles bear the scars of a good conker match...

Can you tell I had a Scottish father?  Big Grin

Absolutely Hunni.. Only for the competitions you dont take your own conker's. they are supplied.

Prey tell what are cornichons?

Me being a Plain Su too my stickers were always straight. Does my head in seeing messy ones.  I collected for Dianne this year. Last year I had several collecting for me for the cooking pans, and I got the full set..  So long as you dont go crazy its a fun thing to collect. Our NW only has a few of the sucker  pumps left, well did yesterday.

Baby gherkins popeye. They are an indulgence because I like the way they look, lol.

The best promo though that New World ever did was a long time ago, in the late 90s when I lived in Blenheim. They had these Optica pots and pans from France. Heavy stainless steel with blue glass lids. I only managed to get enough spent to score the smallest pot but years later came across a full set on Trademe for $50 and grabbed them. Added a couple of medium saucepans to those since, but oh they are fabulous things to use. And still shiny and bright after decades of use. I have replaced a couple of knobs and the odd handle, but the lids and bodies are still going strong. I love them so much I stack them on a shelf rather than hide them in a cupboard. Lifetime kitchenware those things. Love love love.

Ohh Ok.. I wouldn't like them then.

Love having nice cookware. I had just brought two new frying pans before the Set came out last year. So all but the roasting dish are still unused.
I have some nice pots picked up at the oppies and recycle center, but once they start misbehaving then Ill break out the nice stuff.
Being only me and I seldom have people stay, I really dont need all the kitchen stuff I have.. but in saying that Im really pleased I have alot of china. then the dishwasher waits for a week sometimes before I use it lol.

I will probably have a cull if I move into the boarding situation that we planted the seeds in on Monday.

And I really dont need all my corning ware either. I have double ups  from the same shops, and I only actually use a couple of them.

Always loved china, from being a kid. And my Stepfather was the same so department stores with big selection was sa passion we shared lol

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 17-10-2024

With the exception of some inherited pieces, I have mostly thrifted and TM stuff, but now just about everything in there is there because I love it. I tossed all my non stick pans and found Simon Gault stainless steel (on TM) instead - gave the big one to the hospice shop and kept the small and the medium. They are excellent frypans and look good with the saucepans. The china is mostly blue and white mixed patterns, with a couple of pieces of my wedding china left. Those are very precious, but when they break, as china does, then that is the way things go. And my coffee mugs are Trademe scores, anything with William Morris patterns ends up on my watch list, and sometimes by my kettle, lol. I edited the utensils a while back, I swear those things breed, so now I just have the pieces I use all the time.

I might be developing a collection though, of linen teatowels with butterflies on them, which has sparked my friends into op shop hunting butterflies for me. One of those ladies will be amused when I tell her the teacup she gave me a week ago has two siblings and a teapot listed as a 'teaset' on TM for $80, lol... That is an optimistic seller in todays climate.

I have to exert some discipline though, I am a magpie for pretty things...

I used to be a snob when it came to china. if one piece of a set got a chip, I had to have a complete new set.   Its cos I cant  or couldn't do random.

Now I love my red and white china and cookware. And the most used, are plates and bowls are all my odd ones collected from the recycle center etc.

My stepfather would be shocked and probably try and get me a new one.

My Oven is my pan storage, Ive never cooked meat in it. I think I may have done Toad in the hole once, but I do that in the glass bowl cooker, along with potato bake. My Oven is used for baking and storage lol

Coffee mugs I have a fave set, and then 10 spare. but the one I use the most, and not for hot drinks is an odd red and white one I got for 50 cents. for benefibre lol.

I can imagine my stepfather shaking his head lol

It is good though if we have a colour combo we like, and try to stick to it. It makes picking up replacements in the bargain world so much easier. And it is so much cheaper to pick up singles of beautiful china than entire sets! In the end, they all look glorious together if they talk to each other, colourwise.

Snap. My dinner last night and my lunch today was a salad of left over roast chicken, nasturtiums, gherkins, parsley, mint, black lentils, capers, tomato and feta, tossed with some beautiful olive oil from Crete. It's so good to have all the herbs growing again, especially spring mint.

Mica, I also have plain red and plain white as well. so we could match quite easily. lol

The good news is I've finally figured out which is North and South here lol. I know , Im slow but I dont usually take much notice when the sun rises and falls.

But I know cos of the house on the back and the school that is opposite, and they are North.. well I think so anyway lol

Im on Daughter Duty again tomorrow Dianne has to go for a scan on her special Baby,, commonly known as an 11 mm kidney stone. Ouch. Hopefully they can get her booked in and do what ever they do to get rid of it. Its not her first. They can be hereditary and her family has had many.

Winz helped me and I actually brought meat today. My dr will be pleased to hear it.

What direction do I need to look to see the comet?
How To Find The Comet: -Have as clear a view of the western horizon as you can. -Look in that direction starting about 15 minutes after sunset through about 45 minutes after, depending on your exact location. The comet will be fairly low on the horizon.
