morning ladies Smile It's a tad overcast, perfect for planting the sunflowers I bought yesterday. They are going to be (I hope lol) a gorgeous deep burgundy/red, not the usual yellow. I will have to protect them from the rabbits for a while though.

Our crockery is a mix of Temuka pottery (a blast from the past) and white plates. BUT we have a bunch of lovely platters and serving bowls of all shapes and colours. I especially like the depression glassware I've been finding on TM and op shops.

While in town yesterday I was in the op shop and found two embroidery hoops for $2. A fair swap I thought for the goodies I had just donated. The woman in paying in front of me was quibbling over paying $5 for a big box of wine and ordinary glasses. Couldn't believe it.

My bestie and I ended up going out for lunch yesterday and it was so good to catch up with her. She paid this time, and I'll pay the next Big Grin It's what we do Heart

Today I'll finish planting the sunflowers and repot the freesias (early I know but I need the pot) and finish mowing the lawn. This afternoon I'll dig out some bias binding and wrap my new embroidery hoops to give the fabric more grip and keep it tighter. A little drop of glue at the beginning and end will keep it secure.

Happy crafting Smile

Morning everyone.

Looks OK out so far.

Wow Kiwimade those sun flowers sound different. My Nursery owners fave flowers are sunflowers. I saw some new to me flowers at the home on Minday Hippyasturms or something like that. Beautiful lily type flowers. Large blooms.

On Daughter Duty today. Dianne got a call yesterday, they are sending her private for a scan on her kidney stone. So ill make sure mum eats and they take her to the toilet etc.

Might have to start doing my shopping late inn then day more often. I got 8 meals of meat and one of snapper for the grand sum of $23-56 last night. Fish tonight for sure.

Possible I said that last night , lol I didnt look.

Have a fab day all

Morning all
Overcast and a bit dull

The different colour for your sun flowers sound nice KM

Need to pop i to Warehouse to return puzzle that we bought DGS as he already has it, then trip to Bunnings to get some little stoppers to put on glass coasters  DS made us. Going to look for clear sicker hooks. Gave away Xmas tree in the great destash for the move so thought I would decorate the circular mirror that's in our living area with pine garlands if it works I will post a photo. Won't be putting any decorations  up until December though.

Will puttle in sewing cave this afternoon.

Enjoy your day

morning ladies Smile Another still day, perfect for spraying the weeds I can't pull. The hose is going on the garden for the first time this season today. I see irrigation is being used on the crops near us as well.

Not a lot happening here, just pottering about. I'll get some housework done hopefully or might even get out into the garden. The violas are taking over and smothering some plants and that will take some digging.

I'm not having a lot of success with the cut embroidery, I think the thread I am using is the wrong size. But I'll keep at it for a bit longer.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 19-10-2024

Good morning.

Sunny and calm.

We have watering going on as well after some drying wind lately.

Off to Taupo for the night ... DH shout for a certain person's birthday this week Smile Will take our bikes seeing as fine and there are some easier (for me) trails. We had a slower walk around Mauao yesterday ... 1st for DH since surgery. The first cruise ship had arrived ... along with a large contingent of passengers on the same walk!

Snap re the violas KM ... feisty plants that they are!  I usually let them go and then have a big cull!

Have dug out a couple of my knitting/crochet books and will make a few more wee Xmas decorations for a project on hand. DH made a wooden tree (that we put together each year) now we are in town and I have gradually accumulated kiwiana decorations.

Had better keep moving.

Enjoy the weekend all.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 19-10-2024

Morning everyone

A beautiful start to the day here.

Hopefully the ground will dry out some. I have two wet corners and they get slushy.

Im having a lazy day. although I will crumb the schnitzel and freeze that.

Had cramp last night, first time in ages, so a bit bleary eyed and achy.

Had a good time at the home. Cindy who is a carer was telling us about the homes she worked in in South Africa. And the Hospitals. I certainly wouldn't be wanting to live there. And Understand when the few I have met have said they want to bring their aging parents here. its makes our home look like a palace.

And day cares where they put the kids on the floor and feed them all off the same spoon. Cindy started her own daycare and the day care inspector took her kids to Cindy. She is lovely and really relates to the residents. One of the few who does. I bet her heart breaks when they lose someone too. Alot of the others have hardened their heart.

Was offered a smaller house yesterday but the yard is a hard walk, not that Id need to go out but a shower over a bath is something I cant do. I dont normally let things affect me but my fall and dislocating my shoulder getting in a bath is a no no.

The right place or situation will come along when its meant to happen.

Have a fab day all.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 19-10-2024

Happy birthday for this week roma (I'm assuming it was your birthday lol). Have a fab time in Taupo, there are loads of walking/bike trails there.

Our shower is over the bath until we can afford to take the bath out and replace with a new shower. The OT is organising a gadget that clips to the bath and MrK will sit on it and then swing around into the bath for his shower. I will feel a lot happier when that arrives, that's for sure.

OMG this new water pump is amazing with the hose on. It makes us think the old pump had been failing for a while and as it was a gradual thing, we hadn't noticed.

RE: You can never have enough... - zqwerty - 19-10-2024

You can get a bath with a door for easy access, we looked into it for Mum but the earthquakes came along and we then had bigger problems than access to a bath for an older person.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 19-10-2024

Those are expensive, and installation is a pain. Those seat things with two legs on the floor and two in the bath are great. I had one for my Mum and she enjoyed it a lot. With a nice long handled body brush she could do her feet and legs and maintained her independence for longer than she might have. At times she said it made bathing fun, and I can imagine that, showering can be very boring, lol.

I do miss a bath... And bubbles!

RE: You can never have enough... - zqwerty - 19-10-2024

After the earthquakes our house by the river was badly damaged so Mum moved out of town into a well-known old peoples home, near Halswell.

Money stolen, cutlery gone missing and general lack of reasonable care at times.

When she died we went back to get some of her stuff including her bath chair, it had disappeared, we tried to get it back but no dice, it had her name printed on the bottom of the seat in big black letters.

Coming from Africa we were used to pilfering so most of her things were labeled with her name.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 19-10-2024

I went looking for lemons today and found a broken branch on the tree, so I took it off and clipped the blossoming twigs off it. They are in a vase in the corner, and the scent of the flowers is wonderful as the night comes on. So I get lemon curd and the perfume through the room, magical rewards from a battered old tree.

RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 20-10-2024

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 20-10-2024

morning ladies Smile We have a lovely calm start to the day.

Well done Team NZ, we keep the Americas Cup for another season.

Yesterday was spent moving the hose around the garden, it was so much quicker with this new pump. Today I have some violas that need digging out along with some iris' that have never flowered in the eight years they have been in the garden. I had three sunflowers left over from planting the other day so gave them to our neighbour for the kids to plant. There were 11 sunflowers in the punnet, not bad for $3.50 Smile

Time to get cracking, the washing machine has me well trained with its beeping.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 20-10-2024

Morning everyone.

Rather cloudy here today.. yesterday was beautiful. but I had a very lazy day..

I finished my painting. Ill do a photo later. I like it now. Have kitted that one down, and have the diamonds ready for the next one. Missy in Black and white... which still has 23 colours, including mauve, pink and green. Its 40 by 50 cm's. So will take longer than 6 days.

Oddly the one Dianne and Bianca are doing we all have 23 colours.. I've done some with 40 plus colours.

Happy Birthday Roma. hope Taupo isn't too cold for you.

I crumbed the schnitzel yesterday and the pieces were soo big I cut them all in half, so with the two chops and piece of fish I got 15 meals for just under $24. Really happy.

Have a fab day everyone

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 20-10-2024

Those lemon flowers are still putting out their scent this morning. Lovely to wake up to. The supermoon woke me in the early hours, the moonlight on my face was really bright. I got up to take a look and despite being as blind as a bat she looked pretty huge to my very myopic eyes. Such a cool white light.

Yesterday I started the long process of breaking down my two aquariums by taking a lot of the plants out and into other containers so I can begin to catch lots of tiny fish for rehoming. I built these two over a year ago as an experiment and they need a reset so the plants can reach their full potential. Like all gardens they mature over time, and then begin to revert to jungle, so a rebuild will keep me entertained for the next year or so.

Like others here, I like having more than one project going to keep my reative brain ticking over!

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 20-10-2024

The supermoon was really bright here as well and still out when I woke this morning.

That lemon tree branch was a lucky find, OHH Smile Ours is loaded with lemons and flowers. The bees are loving it.

The ground for the new magnolia has been weeded and semi prepared. The mulch from grinding the tree compacted down like chip board so I've had to dig that garden over four times over winter to help break it up and encourage the fungi to do their job. Now most of it has rotted away and we can plant a new tree. We have part of MrK's parents' ashes and have decided they can be placed there along with the tree. I think his mum would approve of the magnolia we have chosen.

RE: You can never have enough... - Jan - 20-10-2024

Good afternoon - beautiful day in the bay a bit breezy - the port is busy with cruise ships so the buses have been up and down our street full of tourists making videos - I had thrown a bruised pineapple out for the wax eyes - there were dozens frantically trying to get their share hope they caught them on camera

I love a simple salad - not really a meat and spud gal anymore - my favourite salad is orzo - which is a pasta like grains of rice - cheap as chips - it loves a drizzle of olive oil or French dressing and what ever green or herby is looking good - perpetual spinach is my main go to - maybe a cherry tomato and a few bits of chicken - or my favourite I am having tonight is a little bit of salmon and some chopped up asparagus .I love the orzo as it is light and doesn’t need a lot of dressing .

When I bought this little place with its shower over bath - the first thing I was going to do was pull the bath out and have a fancy shower installed like I had in my previous place - but I really want to try and keep its art deco features and the bath and tiles are lovely- so we talked to the mobility people and now I wouldn’t swap it - the swivel seat thing ensures my feet are firmly on the ground when I get out - I have rails on the walls and a bath mat that extends the full length so I can’t slip and it’s a slide shower BUT the best thing is I can put the plug in and have a paddle or a long foot soak - add a few drops of lavender - heaven - the set up is so safe I would need to be very unlikely to have a fall even with my two bung legs - fingers crossed .Popeye keep an open mind if you get offered something new that is perfect in any other way

My lovely neighbours are putting their house on the market - he told her she wasnt supposed to tell anybody - they have been out all weekend painting our shared fence - she has spent so much time trying to silently remind me to keep my mouth shut without him seeing- he is very controlling so I sure wouldn’t drop her in it

I open my bedroom drapes after I turn all the lights out as my neighbours don’t overlook my bedroom - the moon has been spectacular

Time is certainly flying its rubbish day again already

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 20-10-2024

The bath here has a nice area to sit on. So I often have a wee bubble bath soak for my feet.

I must tho get a new plug it doesn't hold the water for long.

Don't know how it but I discovered I had a bleeding toe, lol the Big one, at the base of the nail. Of course as soon as you see it, it starts hurting lol.. But I have no clue as to how I did it .

Got quite a lot of painting done before I went out the back for a trim. The sticky on this one is Exceedingly strong, so I have to focus.

Only have 3 rows of mauve then two of white to finish the body of the blanket. Then Ill sew in the ends and do a border.. Of course last night the rash came back. Last time I had it was 3 years ago when I did the blue blanket for MrP. I took my bracelets off, had a naked arm but it still came back.. totally nuts..

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 20-10-2024

Yup, rubbish bins out tomorrow, though I just need to take the recycling one up this time. I have done a bit more disgorging of cupboards and storage spaces, this time looking for something I wanted for the coming week - in the process filling both the bin and a couple of bags for the hospice ship. And a pile of more recycling stuff to go in when the empty bin comes back on Tuesday. I unearthed some summer sandals I had forgotten, leather cleaned and hydrated ready to wear now. And vacked!

Then discovered I had lost a lapis bead from one of my sleepers, so that is annoying. And no I checked the vack dust collection, must be outside somewhere. Still, it means I can add another bead instead, it is good to ring the changes.

I agree on your advice to popeye - and I'm pretty sure such an aid would qualify for a Winz grant, or a loan from your local OT department at the hospital. It is surprising how much help is available if we know to ask.

I watched the Police Commisioner on Q&A this morning, was so impressed I rewatched it on the plus one channel. Be interesting to see the changes he brings to the social investment job.
