RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 20-10-2024

Did a bit more weeding along the mint patch & got just around the corner done. And then a bit of pruning back the Jasmine before it takes over too much porch.
And had taken Madame Le Dog for her walk first so slightly knackered now, won't be doing much more today.

(20-10-2024, 05:11 PM)Oh_hunnihunni Wrote: Yup, rubbish bins out tomorrow, though I just need to take the recycling one up this time. I have done a bit more disgorging of cupboards and storage spaces, this time looking for something I wanted for the coming week - in the process filling both the bin and a couple of bags for the hospice ship. And a pile of more recycling stuff to go in when the empty bin comes back on Tuesday. I unearthed some summer sandals I had forgotten, leather cleaned and hydrated ready to wear now. And vacked!

Then discovered I had lost a lapis bead from one of my sleepers, so that is annoying. And no I checked the vack dust collection, must be outside somewhere. Still, it means I can add another bead instead, it is good to ring the changes.

I agree on your advice to popeye - and I'm pretty sure such an aid would qualify for a Winz grant, or a loan from your local OT department at the hospital. It is surprising how much help is available if we know to ask.

I watched the Police Commisioner on Q&A this morning, was so impressed I rewatched it on the plus one channel. Be interesting to see the changes he brings to the social investment job.

I think Ill have a word with the houses owner. She herself has a body ravaged by Rheumatoid arthritis, has been since she was a kid.  The house she has was her fathers. I was at school with her sister, It would make sense for her to have a good bathroom incase she ends up back in there too.

I too wear beads etc on my sleepers lol.. Im collecting  Christmas themed earrings to wear a different set every rest home day for December.
So much easier than changing earrings lol.  Temu is my friend occasionally. And I have quite a few pairs from earlier years.

Admit to being weary, so Ill get my hook out to keep myself awake, the Forensics detectives are on tonight at 9pm.

Love good forensics..

Also love good ghost stories. There was a show on last night. I actually laughed soo much cos they were freaking each other out as well as investigating lol.  Was an old Bordello where several murders had happened and never solved. Unfortunately they got so scared with the spooks that are there they gave up lol

morning ladies Smile Another calm, fine day in the offing.

That bath seat sounds exactly like the one MrK is getting. Nice to hear from someone who has used it and loves it as he is a tad nervous about having one.

OMG MrK can get some speed up using his walker lol. I have to remind him to keep it close though. I've noticed he's using it more and more as he is finding the little bag under the seat very useful. And when we are out and about I don't have to carry his glasses in my bag lol.

The plan is to do a bit more weeding. My hosta 'Empress' is well above ground now and has a wire cage around her to protect her from snails and rabbits. I'm hoping she will grow to full size this year as she has been a disappointment over the last two years. MrK wants to buy his tomato, cucumber and zuchinni plants today. There is no way on this green earth we are going anywhere near garden centers this weekend. We went to Bunnings last Labour Day weekend and it was madness. And we wondered how many of them actually continued on with the gardening. And as for those kids trolley... arggghhhh.

Time to get cracking Smile

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 21-10-2024

Morning everyone

Light clouds here. Meant to warm up nicely. The home is a warmer place so clothing has to be chosen well or we cook lol.

A fabulous weekend of Sport. Womens T20 Cricket, Men's win over India and the Yachting.. Not that I call that sailing , they are barely in the water lol.

Think I have a new favourite. I normally have peaches on my creamed rice, but the maid didn't get any this week. So I improvised with crushed pineapple. Its a nice combination. And Pineapple keeps me fuller, and Im struggling to get through my usual amount. Taking crackers and cheese for lunch.

Glad MrK is enjoying the scooter Kiwimade.. makes life easier all around. I want one in later years when I cant afford to keep the car going.

Have a fab day everyone

Morning all
another fine day

Yes Popeye NZ sports have done well over the weekend. DH currently watching replay of womens cricket

Had nice time with sewing friends yesterday . Then DD phoned just as DH was getting up to organise our dinner - she invited us to join them for a BBQ of course we said yes. Our k9 is a resource protector and he had a go at their BIG dog while he was "guarding" the bbq  he came off 2nd best with a puncture wound to his neck. we have clipped and cleaned it  up will keep and eye for any infection - little B....tard

No sewing today have meeting this afternoon and have been prepping for that this morning,

enjoy your day

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 21-10-2024

Good morning.

A lovely day ... summer is round the corner!

School run done and groceries sorted, I noted the supermarket had Halloween decorations up and I've seen a few around the neighbourhood. That means fireworks season is about to start ... no petrified dog in this house though  Sad

I plan to get out in the garden ... I have some lettuce seedlings ready that I grew from seed but shall make some choc chippies for the troops first.

Great weekend in Taupo, especially good to have fine weather though typically the wind off the lake was quite cold as we cycled both ways over the 2 days. Taupo has grown over the years with new subdivisions and shopping centres. We reminisced as we drove through the district we lived in for 8 years over 35 years ago ... how things change.

Coffee finished, had better get the washing out and into the baking.

Enjoy the day all.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 21-10-2024

I would like to go back, but last time I googled there was a permit to demolish on record for our first house, and I know it would break my heart to see that gone. I'd rather pretend it is still there with all those memories, and ghosts intact. Sometimes the past is a friendlier country to live in.

On the homefront though my naughty spend up on TM was delivered yesterday - who knew Aramex delivered on a Sunday? Today when the boring stuff is done I get to do a very basic clean up on the prettiest little turquoise portable Smith Corona typewriter from 1967 before I send it off to a friend who will bring the innards up to working status and put in a new ribbon for me. It is so lightweight I will be able to easily carry it instead of one of my journals - I am really enjoying adding typed writing to the altered books as well as continuing with that life saga. And my typing skills are improving again, still one fingered, but fewer mistakes!

The other project now underway is building a little outdoor pond in one of those Chinese watergarden pots, I am going to transfer some of the lilies and any of the little fish I miss in this week's aquarium rehoming catch to that container. I tested it with some plants and snails over the last winter and the water temp never dropped below double figures so I know they can manage that.

Keeps life interesting, all these little projects.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 21-10-2024

The Furry One did a runner on me this morning. Opened the gate to bring the potting mix in from the car, saw the gleam in his eye, and just knew he was going to bolt. I couldn't get the gate shut quick enough and he was off. Luckily, I caught him at the neighbour's sniffing around their woodshed. He hasn't done that for years, the little buggar. And he has painted on ears of course, no recall whatsoever. Just as well we love him.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 22-10-2024

morning ladies Smile Another hot day on the cards coming.

Grocery shopping today and then a bit more weeding. MrK has tomatoes, zucchini, and cucumbers to plant. We can't plant the beans out until the fencing contractor has been... another bill. Hopefully this will be the last of the fence repairs for a while. When it was built, the previous family used treated timber, but it turned out to be a faulty batch and the posts are now rotting from the bottom. We are gradually replacing the posts over time.

The Furry One was looking very pleased with himself yesterday afternoon after The Great Escape. He still has that bit of mischief lol. My sister-in-law is visiting on Saturday with her two big dogs, a Dalmation and Bearded Collie x. That will keep the Furry One busy lol. And The Fluffy One is coming to stay for 10 days shortly.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 22-10-2024

Good morning.

Another sunshiney day ahead.

Haha KM, you've got to take a chance if you get one when you're a JR! I don't think I ever see one off lead on the beach ... I wonder why! The fluffy one will keep him entertained for a bit!

A catch up day round home today. The lettuces can be planted out now they've had a day outside.

Yes, good to have projects on the go OHH ... your aquatic one sounds fascinating. I hope the outdoor pond is a success.

It will be good to be out the other side of the USA election ... fallout either way.

Time to move.

Enjoy the day all.

RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 22-10-2024

Morning all
Another beautiful day

OHH like the sound of your outdoor aquatic project

KM terriers are little blitters for making an escape. Our remaining k9 cannot  and will not be trusted off lead.   Our front door here opens out onto our driveway and street so need to coral him before opening the door to guests.

Doing extra shift  at warehouse this morning and plan on finishing the baby quilt that DD has commissioned  this afternoon will stitch binding at knitting tonight

Enjoy your day

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 22-10-2024

Morning everyone

Dull grey here.

Lol JR's know they have an opportunity and will make a run for it. The other visits should wear him down a little lol.

I didn't notice I went for a run over night, but my planter Faci what ever it is in my foot is sore.. lol.. How the heck that happened I have no idea. And of course its on the right like my knee.. Pain meds on board, hope they work cos I have a couple of things I need to do up the road.. Arghhhh... Ill strap it too, grr. I could quite easily chop that blardy leg off lol.

Ohh and my referral for my tummy has been delivered, 3ish months before Ill be seen, but at least its started now. yay.

A bonus is Ill be able to sit and work on the picture, and then the blanket tonight. The floor will have to wait lol.. Glad its only me here to notice it.

Woke up to see Luxon talking about Bayly. So I emailed tvnz about how the idiot worked when I went to him about the rest home. He tipped them off that I was going to the Ministry of health. so they had time to be prepared.

Dianne is a Miracle woman. They couldn't find her 11mm kidney stone but reckon she has passed it. Considering they say that they have to be blasted or removed if over 5mm, then she will have noticed passing an 11mm one. And still has the same pain as before.. I suggested next time the pain hits to go straight to the hospital.

Had a lovely time there yesterday. And no stress.. Colleen told me she loves talking to me, cos our husbands were very similar, controlling and narcissistic. So we understand what we have both been through.

She found a bag she had forgotten about. It has a book of Velvet backed pictures, Mandella's, that need to be colored in. She forgot she had it. It contains 6 beautiful pictures and she has told me I can have one. It will either be the lion or Wolf I think. Ill let her know which one tomorrow. And we were talking about it and Dianne had given Mum one as well... I cant wait to be able to do one. I Love Mandella's , definitely not something to paint. I have many felt pens so Im excited about doing one.
Says she who doesn't like too many things on the go at once. lol

Oh I was norty yesterday. I had to pick up my pills and the chemist has some RREALLY beautiful earrings. Christmas Themed. Ill put a pic up later. I told the girls about my plan for wearing a different set each day I visit the home in December. I got Cats and reindeer with dangly legs. Absolutely love them. Had a credit so was Norty and got my Christmas present lol Cant wait to wear them lol

Have a wonderful Day everyone

Anybody read dreams ? Not sure if it is the moon or the thought of my impending return to work next week my dreams have been hilarious - still chuckling at last nights adventure - back in the village where i grew up - nightfall - all these animals were galloping round the block - camel - a buffalo with a hood on that luckily had slipped back so it could see - giraffe - and several horses chasing them dragging their reins that were clanking on the bitumen scaring the animals - I tried to call 111 but the button wouldn’t work - thank god I woke up ! Can see it and hear it still so clearly - going nuts I think

All the fly by nighters who were working on the school projects have quit now the tax payer gravy train has ground to a halt - they were given a plan and an open ended contract and told to go build it and just submit the bill - there has been no QS done - which is the step you do after you get your plan and the Quantity surveyor works out how many sticks of timber etc you need so you know how much it is going to cost - that step hasn’t been done the builder could just charge whatever - typical example those 1.4 million dollar appartments which should have cost the tax payers 600k .In my previous life I was a Quantity surveyor so am going to help my brother out - he is old school been building schools for 50 years
I just received my yarn to start my next project so was quite inclined to refuse

The most beautiful geranium has just poked its nose through the fence from next door - it is nearly black - the deepest purple looking like velvet - going to take a cutting

Can’t understand why the media are carrying on about the silly old MP who was trying to be hip talking to a young bloke - we surely have all met that bloke who tries to copy the seemingly derogatory way young people sometimes talk to one another - they drop in a few swear words and they end up looking an idiot I would rather the media be asking why Golriz hasn’t had her record cleared - how many sport stars have the courts helped out because they would not be able to play their professional sport overseas - hardly rated a mention or Baby Roo - it’s twelve months since the courts ordered him to be returned to his abusive parents using Jacinda’s new law - surely both parents should be before the courts to right the wrong the courts did - in my opinion Bailey pales into insignificance but the media obviously don’t agree with me8

A bit obvious, I know - but returning to work, could you be heading back to a bit of a circus...? Rolleyes

I wondered about Golriz too, as you say there's usually not a problem helping prominent sports people in similar  situations.

Because I now have quite a lot of family birthdays (they will keep having babies!) I've been trying to organise birthday & Xmas gifts into bags so I'm ready for each birthday as it appears on the horizon, & I was ever so pleased with myself.

Until today when I realised that somehow, I've managed to get two birthday bags muddled & not sure now who I've given what to - think I put a gift intended for next year for a  granddaughter into the bag for granddaughter who had a birthday last month...oh joy! Big Grin Rolleyes

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 23-10-2024

Morning everyone

A damp start here, slightly chilly.

Thankfully the foot pain vanished so it was a good day.. Did quite alot on my picture. I've done the Nose of the cat, working on an eye at the mo.

Gosh just looking at those meals for the school. well I'd be going hungry, well not, we always had lunch to take with us. I can hear my mother saying its foreign Muck. I remember many years ago when my sister started making spaghetti and meatballs, Mum was disgusted lol.

Painting today and Ill hopefully bring home one of the velvet pictures. The wolf head reminds me of your dragon head Kiwimade. Still haven't decided which one I want, Ill have a better look today.

Spoke to my Twin Bro for two hours last night. He has finally admitted he is struggling mentally again , but is off to his Dr today to have a good talk about his mental health and health in general.

Have a wonderful day everyone

Edit to add. I got first yesterday in the card games. out of 492.974 players.. WOOHOOO !!!!!!!

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 23-10-2024

morning ladies Smile It's a bit cloudy but otherwise a good start to the day.

The Furry One is back to being on a lead when the gate opens. The look on his face is priceless lol, so indignant. I've also never seen a JR off lead and would never ever trust him when we go out without one.

OHH, how's the pond going? It sounds like a fun ongoing project. Our garden center has water lilies for sale in a big tub.

The physiotherapist is visiting today and we are hoping she will bring the all terrain walker with her. She will no doubt suggest more exercises for MrK as well. The OT is coming next week to fit the bath swing thing and the handle for the bed. We've also heard from the plastics dept at Waikato Hospital for MrK to have the second melanoma removed on the 5th Nov. Things are starting to fall into place for him.

A bit more weeding to do this morning as I need to keep on top of it. The convolvulus takes off so quickly. I'm slowly getting the better of it though. Was back to square one when they ploughed up the paddock for maize a couple of seasons ago.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 23-10-2024

The pot pond is well underway now, I made the substrate from charcoal, leftover aquarium aquasoil, and white sand, filled it and have dropped in a big handful of aquatic plant cuttings complete with snails to get things started. As I break down the indoor tanks I'll do a bit more with it, but basically now it is a matter of letting the plants and good bacteria do their thing to create a good environment for the two minnows and any Endler escapees, and a tiger lily for a centrepiece. That's probably a few weeks of patience required. I did come across an abandoned wire hanging basket which is exactly the right size and interesting shape to make a kingfisher proof dome to sit on top, no rust either, I think it is powder coated, one of the more expensive ones, lol, the universe is providing, lol.

Bit silvery out there but should be okay for scooting, I have a shopping list for the garden centre, lots of vegie mix bags to rejuvenate the planters now the tomato seedlings have their true leaves, and I need to depot the big fancy cyclamen corms into one of the border beds to die down and recover for next winter. And herbs to pot up for the deck plantings, parsley, chives, and basil - though the basil is looking a bit sick. I may need to replace that one - or let a tomato adopt it, they do well sharing space.

Always a busy couple of weeks around now, all that planting, and then the family birthdays. We scorpios were a pain for my sister! And the US election while Mr K is under the knife, an anaesthetic might not be such a bad idea...

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 23-10-2024

Good morning.

Sunshine and blue sky.

It will be interesting to see how well that school food goes down (or not)! How hard would it to be have wraps/buttered split rolls and a selection of sliced salad foods ... all coming into season.

Fun project OHH ... is your puss interested in the swimming critters?

Library trip this morning and I'll see what the damage is at the local jeweller to mend a broken chain.

We watered last night ... that should ensure decent rain over the weekend,  lol. Tomatoes have had more ties plus laterals removed.  I have also nipped off the tops of dahlias after watching a u-tube demo ... will see if that reduces the height/provides more flowers  Undecided

Had better get the washing out.

Enjoy the day all.

lol OHH, never thought of that!  Sadly, it's a local not a general.  This way he doesn't have to muck about with his warfarin.  Sounds like your pond is well underway.  Funny how things just find their way to us at just the right time.

Morning all
Misty moisture in air enough to deter DH from taking k9 for a walk.

Good things progressing for MrK you will be sorted by Xmas  Big Grin

Got quilting done and stitched binding on at knitting last night couple of group didn't realise that the binding was hand stitched. I know some quilters do it all by  machine  but I like the process of hand stitching.

Been to gym my goodness she worked me hard today . Not much planned for today probably will do pattern alterations and cut out the light weight jacket . I just hope it turns out as good as I  see it in my minds eye.

Those school lunches  didn't appeal to me visually  hope that they taste OK. Do they provide any fruit?

Enjoy your day
