RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 25-10-2024 morning ladies ![]() ![]() It's going to be a slow day. So frustrating as there is quite a bit that needs doing this time of the year. The doctor told me yesterday 'not to push my luck' and 'you aren't out of the woods yet'. Epson salts (magnesium sulphate) is great for fruit, flowers and leaves. Well worth a good sprinkle around your plants. Roma, if you are coming over the hill around the 5th November, Daltons are having their rose show at the Hamilton Gardens. My sister arrives this afternoon with the Fluffy One. She had a fall and has broken five ribs and her tailbone so has been in a bit of pain. I might sort out a new embroidery project today. The cut work is getting better with practice, I just need to find the right type of thread to use. Happy crafting ![]() RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 25-10-2024 I like them popeye because they make litterbox management so much easier, and more pleasant. It is still a pain disposing of the used sawdust, but between kerb collection and composting it is easier than the expensive alternatives. Today my little Endlers are being picked up to go live in a couple of huge tanks out in Helensville, a different environment for them to adjust to, and I will begin planning for the next aquarium adventure - primarily a strip down, clean, and reset for replanting. This time I'm going to focus on just one tank, and make a sand bed base with planting confined to a rather lovely white porcelain lotus bowl in the centre of the tank. Then fish, and while I am tempted towards something elegant like a betta or fighting fish, a couple of hardier bright coloured babies would probably be more sensible, platies maybe, bright orange or red. Or yellow, lol. But half the fun is in the planning. RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 25-10-2024 Good morning. It's sunny out one window but there is cloud through the opposite one! Very warm. Thanks for the Rose Show date KM, have made note of it. Ouch with all those broken ribs ... one is painful enough! A few groceries to get ... slug bait at the top of the list ... the sods have had a good go at the Rengarenga that I grew from seed and are over a foot high in the garden ... I'll also get epsom salts, thanks to the hint! I have a few felt Xmas decorations on the way that need to be appliquéd ... the idea being that I can replicate and add to Xmas gifts. I like the sound of your aquarium OHH ... there is something about colourful fish in attractive surroundings. You don't see so many these days in reception areas as we did in days gone by ... very calming. Enjoy the day all. It is still a pain disposing of the used sawdust, but between kerb collection and composting it is easier than the expensive alternatives. Ive been throwing the sawdust under the Yukka trees in the corners of the yard. I figure they will be good mulch and hopefully keep the weeds down a bit. I dont weed under there, or Id be looking like a ghoulie on Halloween day with real blood lol RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 25-10-2024 Farcebook pulled up a photo I uploaded a decade back, of a jungle tank I made, very green, with two bright orange platies centre front, and I was reminded just how beautiful those fish are, and how easy. Be nice to have a trio again, they do liven up a quiet tank! I too have been giving flying lessons to slugs, half a dozen this morning, found sleeping under a piece of discarded coir matting in a plastic plant tray. And, joy of joys, two full grown monarch caterpillars on a fading swanplant, so I relocated the biggest to one of my bigger seedling plants. Might help even the odds of survival. I have a great love for butterflies and love watching monarchs dancing over my gardens. Almost as much as I love bees... RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 25-10-2024 Morning all Raining Love hearing about everyone's gardening adventures. Dh grass seed didn't germinate so we will make trip up the line to where there is a rural retailer that sells the ryegrass variant he had in our old house. The green keeper at his golf club recommended it many years ago. Teacher only day DGS put in a request to swim in our big pool ![]() Might get some sewing done later Enjoy your day RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 25-10-2024 Pulling weeds around the village and hear a rumble behind me. One of my neighbours has her heat pump running... Must be made of money, as my Mum used to say! RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 25-10-2024 Heat pump? Today? madness! Maybe she has it on cool rather than heat. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 25-10-2024 Nope, she is a tropical flower. Spotted her earlier on her deck wrapped in a big fluffy robe, lol. While I am out there in sandals and floaty spring clothes to let the breezes keep me cool. The man who collected my Endlers has over forty tanks. And no line bred species Endlers like mine. So he is a very happy chappy, lol. I love paying it forward like that, and knowing he will continue to keep the line pure with no hybridising with guppy genetics. A good morning all round... While I am out there in sandals and floaty spring clothes to let the breezes keep me cool. That's brilliant, he must be well pleased. ![]() Like the idiot I clearly am, this morning I took out one of the duvet inners; its been really warm here & yesterday was way up there around 26. I was feeling quite pleased at having accomplished something but when I came online there was a cheery littte note about how temperatues are going to plummet. Well, they would, wouldn't they dammit. ![]() Mind you, the forecasts have been wrong quite a lot recently so there's still hope. Picked up book for eldest granddaughter's birthday next month so just some shower gel & chocolate to get & that's hers done & have almost got the two this month done as well. And then - its bleeding Xmas isn't it! ![]() RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 25-10-2024 And here's me getting a road trip tonight courtesy of a neighbour, to pick up a summer weight duvet inner in the long weekend sales. Might just put my antiplastic attitude aside to score one I can run through the washing machine more easily than my beautiful cotton spread. It is so heavy, I'd really like one I can wash more often through the coming hot sticky nights, and micrfibre dries so fast, despite its environmental nastiness. Double standards hunni, you oughta be shamed of yourself! RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 25-10-2024 Been a busy day here. Got madams wood pellets, the young guy that put them in the car for me remembered doing it last time. Much needed insulation tape from a cheapie shop. It holds the coversheet on the diamond painting better. Got my beer, non alcoholic and some more Madam food while it was cheap. Then I went to the Oppy. Haven't been in for a while. Got a matching skirt and top for $8. Blue and white. And a separate blue and white light jacket.. Best buy tho was a sunbeam electric knife, Cost $80 I got it for $10. Managed to talk Colleen into having a rest home chair on wheels so we can whizz her around. She hates waiting to be put in her wheelchair and is missing out on things cos she doesn't like sitting in the wheelchair too long. I also had a word in her ear about the silly tiff. And warned Id told rest home Dianne and now her that I wont be piggy in the middle or Id have to bang heads together.. Hopefully that will help smooth things over. I was more scared about telling Colleen that than RH Dianne lol. Got home did a load of washing, and have 15 minutes left on a steamed pudding. Ingredients are out for the baking tomorrow, not measured yet. And I've just realised Im helping Fanny with a Temu order at 10am, so Ill do Gayles baking tomorrow and mine on one of the other 4 day weekend we are having. Not going to the home until Wednesday. Dianne is having time with Hubby. and yes my bones are screaming lol. RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 25-10-2024 Oh...just caught an item on 3 news. About cats, & how scientist have found they're more intelligent than previously understood. Able to learn words & recognise people fairly quickly make their needs known; so I'm looking at that & thinking yes we know, anyone who has a cat knows that. I turned away from the TV - & there was Madame Le Cat, watching the item... Able to learn words & recognise people fairly quickly make their needs known; so I'm looking at that & thinking yes we know, anyone who has a cat knows that. Oh they know for sure. I like to think that most of the cats I've had have been rather intelligent. Then there was Bob. A huge white and ginger, nutty as a fruit cake but also cheeky and a kleptomaniac. Who Loved having his butt smacked. He would back up to MrP and make this odd meow when he got smacked lol But he knew his left from his right too. He wasn't cuddly tho. And Missy is only just letting me cuddle her in my arms, but happy to use me as her own Mattress, heater and pin cushion and slave. But she somehow gets me to drop the blankets down and she sleeps in my arms on my chest. Alas she is about to be disturbed cos Im going to go measure out the ingredients. I remembered before that my friend and her friend are phoning tomorrow to put in a Temu order, at 10am so my baking will be late.. Im going to tell her its time she learnt to do it for herself. Like I told her how to use the pumps at Gull. Shes old enough to learn. And to stop making people be her Staff... Maybe she was a cat in a previous life lol RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 25-10-2024 One Briscoe's queen microfibre summer weight duvet, $34. Cheaper than kmart. My budget thanks you Briscoe's lady! And a coffee at Gloria Jeans. And that tiny little 2hr outing left me very happy to get home to my own peace and quiet. I am just not up to shopping malls any more. Must be getting old. Er. Funny thing popeye, about being 'staff' - my neighbour was telling me as we walked the mall, how she needs to find someone who sews to put some extra elastic in the straps of seven new Temu bras she has bought, so they fit better. I was very naughty, I didn't volunteer... And I don't even feel guilty. Hee hee... bad hunni! RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 26-10-2024 It is really quiet at 4.15am. Just the breeze cooling the room, and the cat purring... RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 26-10-2024 morning ladies ![]() ![]() lol, not naughty, sensible. Why be beholden to do something you don't want to. I hate it when friends hint for you to do something. Just spit it out and give me the chance to say yes or no. I'm beginning to hate malls as well, especially over long weekends and school holidays. Last night was the first night we slept with the window open. I think the two dogs loved it as well. Woke to the Furry One on the bed near the window and the Fluffy One underneath it. My sister-in-law is visiting today, and we plan to shop for her garden and for me to buy the magnolia 'Butterflies'. I've had the $$$ tucked away for a while waiting for the soil to be pliable to plant. The mulch from the downed tree was like chipboard and needed to be dug over at least four times. And the best thing about waiting is the price has dropped by $20 ![]() Time to get cracking, am going to spread some fertiliser around the garden for the rain to wash in. Saves me having to drag a hose around. The roses in particular need a good feed. Happy crafting ![]() RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 26-10-2024 Morning everyone It was very warm last night. I agree Hunni, my friend from Taranaki told me I had agreed to alter a few of her clothes. I dont remember that.. So its still sitting there. Im not in the mood to sew, and to be honest I need to shrink some more of my knickers, but even those can wait for now. All set to bake. I've asked my friend to be on time with her phone call. I dont want to be baking late in the afternoon. I went out to measure out the ingredients and I hadn't turned the element off on the big pot. It boiled dry. Caught it in time, before it would have got dangerous. There is a mark on the bottom. Ill check it tomorrow and see if it is still useable. I only use it for doing puddings, so hopefully it will be ok. Could have been way worse. My baking will take two days lol.. for Gayle Im doing Shortbread, peanut brownies, vanilla biscuits, chocolate cake, ginger crunch and Marshmallow shortcake. I was going to make my chocolate chip peanut brownies, coconut biscuits and an fudge slice. But I don't have enough peanuts. So Ill pop up and get some tomorrow and bake mine on Monday or tomorrow if Im up to it. Ill deliver Gayles while out lol. Have a fab day all. RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 26-10-2024 Morning all Overcast warm need to change I am hot definitely don't need to merino top Popeye that's a ,ot of baking you are a good friend. Pretty magnolia KM DS and his family arrived late morning for a swim in the pool. DGS confidence markedly improved, we had lunch in the cafe so enjoyable day out for everyone. I didn't get in the pool this time told DH it was his turn ![]() Slept in this morning not unexpected as I didn't get to sleep until after 2.30 goodness knows how that works I was tired So general clean, floors vacuumed, washed bathrooms cleaned having a sit down while floors dry and k9 and DH return from their walk. Sewing this afternoon Enjoy your day RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 26-10-2024 Same here Mica, awake at 2am, made tea at four and opened the deck door to get the breeze, and played on the tablet till the tui started at 5ish then fell asleep. Only to be woken by Her Nextdoor doing a spot of deck cleaning (Lift it, woman - don't drag it! Grrrr!) as the sun came up. And it was hot in here last night. So I am grumpy, and the cat is dead to the world on my feet. Oh well, it is saturday, and windy, so I can just stay here and whinge! |
