RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 08-12-2024

morning ladies Smile I love this time of the day, calm and quiet.

Amazing what you can do when feeling like that, popeye. And better to let someone who can use those items have them while putting $$$ in your pocket.

Funny how those books keeping jumping off the shelves, eh Lilith lol. They have a habit of doing that with us as well.

Hayfever woke me this morning, blimmen privet. If I am going to be sneezing all day we might head off to the beach. My hayfever doesn't seem as bad over the hill as what it is here.

We have a second clutch of starlings in the ceiling by the dining room. Seems appropriate lol. The parents are constantly feeding them, demanding little buggars lol. There's no point in having the roof cleaned of lichen now until they have all finished. And by then the garden should be dormant too.

Washing machine is beeping, I'm well trained in the response.

happy crafting Smile

Morning all
Overcast and a breeze

Seems we are all readers I have a long list on reserve, one popped into Borrowbox this morning  Big Grin I resisted the urge  to open and start reading as I have a but planned for this morning. I like listening to audio books while sewing too

DS and DGD2 popped in yesterday late morning  always nice to see them  got him to help move the mobile stor age shelf out so that I could get to my jam jars and xmas ribbons and paper..
I adjusted my jacket pattern and toille number 3 is cut out ready to go hopefully 3rd time lucky.

Will make batch brandy apricot jam this morning and get the apricot capsicum chutney  in the s,ow cooker to do its thing over the day. They make nice wee Xmas gifts.

The washing machine is playing my tune

Enjoy your day

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 08-12-2024

Morning everyone,

I slept in which is rare. but I think cos it wasnt hot and I was tired. So the washing is still working. I dont hear the beeps as its at the other end of the house.

I haven't read since MrP died. Im not sure why.

And talking of reading , I am giving my friend my Enid Blyton collection, minus a few Im keeping. She has a Library in her house. And now she has two grandies, I have decided it can be their insurance policy. Yes I could probably get good money for them. But I feel passed down the kids can enjoy them when old enough and also giggle cos they are already older than Granny. And then one day they can sell it if needed. The boy especially loves being read to.

I applaud anyone that encourages reading and education. Its one thing that MrP and I disagreed on. Schooling IS one of the most important things you can encourage your kids to do. Its a part of the reason I didn't want to have kids with him. It would have created arguments and I wasn't willing to subject kids to that.

Was talking to Dianne last night. I have found a home for her Cat. Not her cat, it made itself at home at her place. But its causing friction with her two dogs..
Created friction on FB as I commented what the Cat Colony person had told her, and then she tried to deny it. I deleted the posts in the end. I dont listen to liars. so hopefully Puss, as she has called her will be all sorted today. And the dogs wont be teased.

More work in the bedrooms today.. I've decided not to go to the home tomorrow. I need to get this done. Dianne wont be there either. I can only do so much in the day.

Its quite grey out. No wonder the Neighbour has already done their lawns. The new battery lawnmower was so the kids would do the lawn. The mother does them. Never seen the husband do a thing outside.

Have a fab day all

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 08-12-2024

I used to think school was important. When my daughter abandoned it at fourteen I was devastated and fought her for months over that choice. But when I indulged myself with the postgrad study I learned so much about why we have state schools, what they are all about, and how they work, and I started to feel a whole lot better about that parenting thing. Like me, she was reading chapter books at 4 years old and was tested as gifted by the ed psychs at the schools request when she was ten. She abandoned school because she was bullied by her classmates and bored by her lessons, but the surprising thing is she still thinks she did the right thing. And she has said if either of her two want out of the system she will support them in doing so.

Our one size fits all sausage factory schools do not suit all kids. For some it is simply years of torture, they're better out of it, and once into adulthood never look back. Like that kid of mine.

I wish I had known this back then when my heart was breaking over her 'rebellion'...

Jam done chutney smelling so good Cool

OHH I hear you there is no / or very minimal accommodation  for gifted children within our school system.

I do agree with you Hunni.

In my 5th form, after being rudely ripped from the classmates we had gone 2 years with, the
top" two of each class then formed the "Top" class of the 5th form.

I Hated it. So set myself levels that I would be happy with in the mid year exams. And if I didn't meet them I was leaving school..

I studied hard but didn't get what I wanted. And I didn't set rediculous levels either.

Decided one day on the bus to school it would be my last day.. Man that made a mess. Teachers took my friends in to find out why.. they didn't know cos I hadn't told anyone.. Called my mother and said I needed a ride home I was finished at school.

Started working 6 weeks later and I dont regret it at all.

But with MrP he couldn't read and he reckoned he had done alright. But for me kids need some level of education. I would have been ok if they chose the same thing I had done. But They would know how to read and write before schooling ended.

Done a few more hours in the rooms. Run out of puff but I have more stuff to move to the garage. Rubbish, recycling and very few keeps.

Just spent the last hour tripping down memory lane. Reading Letters my grandmother wrote home to her Mother when On board the ship from England to New Zealand.

The scrapbook I did when our local policeman Murray Stretch was killed.

And when my Sister was run over by a milk truck in her bed.

Now I need to list a few things since TM has free selling today. Awesome timing.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 09-12-2024

morning ladies Smile Thank goodness for the rain! Might spread some fert around the garden and let the rain work its magic. That will save me having to water it in.

We went to the beach yesterday, no sign of hayfever until five minutes of being home. And I hate malls, especially this time of the year. Coming home, there was an accident on the Kaimais, a car v car went through Swaps fence again. The young guy was looking particularly brassed off, as was the police officer with him. The other guy didn't look impressed either. And once again, Swaps will have to mend their fence. Don't know why they bother sometimes.

I agree, our education system is not geared towards some kids and these kids will often do better elsewhere.

Not sure what our plans will be today, if any. It would be nice to blob out for a bit.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 09-12-2024

Morning everyone.

I think we may have had rain. The hydrangeas are standing up well.

Staying home today. Will put the recycling in the bin and sort the other rubbish. Then put away what Im keeping that hasn't been put away yet. And more stuff to the garage.

Off to the Cardiology appointment tomorrow, so by the time I get home I wont get much done. But since Ill be home all day on Thursday waiting for the inspection I can work then too.

Have a fab day everyone

I knew it! The Furry One has a cunning plan after all. Lull those cute little fiends into a false sense of security and WHAM! Rabbit for breakfast.

RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 09-12-2024

Morning all
Rain overnight and some strong wind

Well done Furry One Cool

Been to gym vacuuming next then need to gussy up a couple of jams and chutneys to take with me today. Lunch with friends up the line.

Mk3 jacket coming along well they all sewed up fine it was the final fit that was off still  got my fingers crossed for success  this time around.

Since we lost the cricket we don't have to collect DGD1 today and feed her as her dad will be home . I think DH breathing a sigh of relief as he would have been on bedtime duty as I am going to quilt guild meeting tonight.

Enjoy hour day

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 09-12-2024

Awesome work Furry one

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 09-12-2024

Good morning.

Some rain overnight and hoping for more later ... a nice change to be overcast.

School drop off this morning .... always a nice walk - just have to watch out for those speeding on wheels on the footpath!

That fence down the Kaimais must require a full time fencer ...yes, it's hard to understand why they keep repairing it! Sometimes there is more gaps/broken fence than standing.

One less rabbit ... watch out for its siblings now Furry One!

Lol Mica, I think DH here would pass on a bedtime duty request! Shame about the cricket result though.

Had better get jobs done ... school pick up comes around quickly.

Enjoy the day all.

RE: You can never have enough... - Jan - 09-12-2024

Good morning from a very dry very hot HB - my audit job is finished so having to run my own air conditioning- really enjoyed being back in the office but certainly pleased I don’t still work - the job itself was gobsmacking - this is just the tip of the iceberg there are buildings all over the country that are not compliant .One of the audits I completed was 9 prebuilt houses cost over 11 million dollars that had been constructed in a yard somewhere but no record existed of them being occupied .Eventually found them - had been sitting in a yard completed for 3 years - but they weren’t compliant not one inspection had been completed despite the construction company getting paid over 1 million dollars for each house that had a value of $300,000 - there was no fraud as there was no contract - he was just told by Kiwibuild go build nine houses send us an invoice you will be paid -when it was discovered the houses were not compliant they were left in the yard and tax payers paid another million dollars storage - these houses are now compliant and were moved last week to land adjacent to a marae for 9 elderly couples .There are school buildings - one school has 4 new toilets that cost over 1 million - again no fraud as there was no contract and the builder was entitled to charge labour and travel as he saw fit
It’s widespread
https://www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/350418193/kainga-ora-block-upmarket-auckland-suburb-fenced-and-left-empty-why

Would love to be an email leaker but wouldn’t bother sending it to TV1 - watching their coverage of the boot camp kids proved Sir Ian Taylor’s questioning their integrity very valid - absolutely no mention of the other kids who are doing well - two have regular jobs and two are regularly attending work experience .
Robie has set up a school - has had so many kids wanting to work who can’t read or write which means you can only do recycling or trolley collection - he has found a retired school teacher - the kids their full weeks wages - if they don’t want to go to school they don’t have to .Last week the shop celebrated 20 years - there were 5 kids who started their life in the supermarket crèche working there - my daughter in law has a masters degree in early childhood so when she had her son he spent the first weeks of his life in the bottom drawer of her office desk - decided to turn the conference room into a crèche - is fantastic for the Mums as baby is upstairs - the same lady is running the crèche after 19 years - I am sure there are some who haven’t enjoyed working for them but I am proud of them .

My American neighbour across the road - invited quite a few people from the neighbourhood and her art circle for nibbles on Sunday 4 pm Xmas afternoon tea fund raising for the hospice - she didn’t say no children and many in the art group are young so arrived with their children all dressed up in their pretty dresses and she turned them away !

Yes, if she didn't want children to be included, then surely she should have made that clear.

Madame de la Cat had to be put in time out this morning. She smacked Madame le Dog so hard that she yelped, so I gave her a talking to & sent to her room - the one which used to be mine. On the bed which used to be mine. Rolleyes

She's been very quiet since although I can hear that poor sentry bird out there giving her what for so she may be feeling hard done by.
Little toad.

Was round at the mall earlier & noticed they've finally got those large soft toys in again, so got two. One for the eldest great grandson; I wasn't going to as he's 7 now but I've got one for all the others & I'd rather he think I've given him a babyish present than he feels left out. And also got another to put aside for the new baby expected next year.

Really hot again, that garden will need lots of water later

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 09-12-2024

It's been raining off and on all day so no need to water. The fert I threw around the garden will be soaking in nicely. I've taken the Furry One for a long walk to work off that rabbit and now he's conked out on the sofa.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 09-12-2024

Surely it would've been up to the adult guests to check with their hostess as to whether their kids would be included in an afternoon nibbles/ afternoon tea fundraiser?

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I never assumed my offspring was an automatic inclusion to such events. Mind you, back then kids were seen but not heard in a very different way to today's expectations. I know watching them at my favourite deli cafe I have to make sure my eyebrows stay firmly on the level. They seem to want to climb along with the volume of some children demanding fluffies and other treats.

I am definitely turning into a grumpy old woman, lol...

We all received an invitation in our letter boxes to a street garden afternoon tea party - 4pm to 7pm for all the neighbours and her art group to get together and fund raise for the hospice -  to wear your best party dress - no alcohol - we have had numerous street parties which she has attended there are very few children in our street .A party company arrived in the morning and decorated the garden with big blow up pink flamingos that swayed in the wind - strings of coloured circles between the trees they were beautiful  and lots of other stuff not Christmasy - must say the canapés were bloody lovely - I followed the trays of food around - I found it sad seeing the children coming to the gate all dressed up and being told no - her art is superb

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 10-12-2024

Morning everyone

Slightly chilly here. Might just be me.

Off to the super clinic today. My first real test of my knee in a way. I haven't driven that far yet. and the walk may be hampered in the distance and 4 hard days of standing and walking.. Ill take the walker and stick and decide how I am when I get there.

Finally got the Cat at Dianne's to its new home. so everyone is happy. She was really dreading her husband putting it down. It was upsetting their two bull mastiff size dogs, more the female than male., also putting holes in the Utes back cover and sliding down their two vintage cars, damaging the paintwork.

The Cat Colony said they would take it but she would be put down. Then denied that on FB.

Only have the lounge and kitchen to do for the inspection, and have finished getting stuff to the garage for the garahe sale. very pleased with my efforts.

Have a fab day all
