RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 01-01-2025 Happy New Year everyone Welcome Olive gardening is a creative activity Use the good stuff Popeye Had lovely time with friends at dinner last night home and in bed reading by 9.30 Woken at midnight lots fireworks from neighbouring housing neibourhood k9 a quivering heap. Just finished cleaning vacuum filters boy they were dirty I think I might have to clean them every two weeks instead of monthly. Will do washing machine filters when finished my cuppa. Dress just about finished but bust dart needs moving up so some reverse stitching to do, hard as its ok but I don't love it and feel nice in it so it is back to the drawing board I think. Have good day RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 01-01-2025 No idea how the devil it can possibly be 2025 but it apparently is - happy New Year & may we all have an excellent one, & learn lots & good times, despite political idiots of various kinds both here & elsewhere. Overcast & threatening more rain so did a fast bit of weeding - naturally, it has failed to rain yet. No doubt waiting until we set off for our walk later. Madame le Cat claimed to be 'stuck' on the fence earlier. I told her that I'd seen her jump down from it several times but she persisted until I helped whereupon she strolled off without so much as a glance at (saintly, obviously) human. She is a toad. Still working on paintings for moon calendar, one or possibly two completed apart from final check. Had another foray into workroom a while back & stumbled across some lino cuts, put them aside to sort out later. Of course, now I can't find the wretched things now when I want to can I... Good for you Olive, we tend to discuss all kinds of stuff rather than only craft. RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 01-01-2025 Welcome Olive, we chat about everything lol. Arrggg oxalis. You have my heart felt sympathy. I had it in the previous garden we had and omggg I was tipping it into the wheelie bin by the bucketful. There is a spray out now you can use that is specifically for oxalis, I think. Convolvulus is my nemesis in this garden along with a teeny bit of ivy. Last year (feels odd saying that as it was only a few weeks ago lol) I put away all the stainless steel cutlery and put all the good silverware in its place. It's sooo nice using the 'good stuff'. And besides, the knives are sharper lol. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 01-01-2025 I picked up a six piece canteen of Grosvenor Christine on TM for fifty dollars a few years back, when I was using the last pieces of my parent's set, a wedding gift from 1951. It was a hell of a bargain, but when I told the seller how delighted I was to score it, and how it brought family memories back for me she was thrilled that it was going to be used every day. It had been a wedding gift for her as well, same generation, but her husband had refused to use it except on special occasions, which never really eventuated. She was going into a rest home and was breaking everything up, sothe thought of her special things going to new lives was comforting to her. I often wonder how she's doing, as I polish 'their' silver plate - hers and my Mums. Things outlast us, but carry our stories into the future. I find that comforting too. Especially when I drop things off to the hospice shop! RE: You can never have enough... - Olive - 01-01-2025 The sun has driven me inside after half an hour of weeding. Thanks for the oxalis advice KM. Is it "Weedweapon" that you're referring to? I'll look into it. Most of our garden consists of veges, which I don't like to spray if I can help it, but the weeds under the roses are fair game and I'm ready to try anything. RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 01-01-2025 Your right and I should use the good stuff. Mine too is Grosvenor.. but not Old. I got it in Farmers in the Summer of 2001. I remember getting it well. As my Twin Brother had come home cos our Stepfather died in the December. I took him back to Auckland airport and stopped in Farmers on the way. I had gift vouchers to use. And it was less than Half price. I have a stainless steel set but only use the forks and spoons. I have some bone handled knives a dear friend gave me so use those. Hance not using the good set. But I will.. The home was very quiet today. The staff all happy.... Ohhhhhh "ITS A GIRL.!!!!!!!" Shivani is having a girl. We are soo pleased for her. She lost a daughter and only has sons.. So she is soo happy. I might have to knit something else.. Since she is due on my Birthday.. but perfectly allowed to have her on Irene's if she cant hang on lol Im glad I went up. It made me rest lol RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 01-01-2025 Olive, MrK spotted an advert for the spray. It's called Death to Oxalis (love the name lol). It needs a sticking agent, I use a squirt of dishwashing liquid when I need one. ![]() https://www.omox.co.nz/ RE: You can never have enough... - Olive - 01-01-2025 (01-01-2025, 04:06 PM)kiwimade64 Wrote: Olive, MrK spotted an advert for the spray. I looked into Weed weapon but it is just a name for Roundup, which I'm very wary of. RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 02-01-2025 morning ladies ![]() So very sad about the policewoman being killed yesterday. Senseless and vicious is how I would describe it. MrK's niece and her husband (they eloped over Christmas ![]() Our road is very quiet after a busy few days. Loving it ![]() Back out weeding for a bit this morning. It's not as bad as it could be, just like to keep on top of it all. I'll deadhead the roses as I go ready for their final flush. The lawnmowing guy comes today as well. Better check the lawn for any missed doggy doo. Then I'll spend a bit more time tacking the embroidery design to the fabric. Am still deciding on what colour(s) to use. All in all, a pretty ordinary day planned. We'll do something when the holiday traffic has quietened down and everyone has gone back to work. Happy crafting ![]() RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 02-01-2025 Morning all Overcast breezy and cool Didn't have the bandwidth to do the unpicking on my dress to fix the bust dart so cut out bias top from the left over fabric just have to put in cap sleeves and it will be done. So almost zero waste. Going to measure up fence this morning and then go get the netting so it is on hand for us to install. Quiet here not sure what else we will get up to Enjoy your day RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 02-01-2025 Good morning everyone Sunny so far. I wish we could have a few days of good rain. Things aren't dry but it would just make things feel better. I noticed this morning the Wattle tree about 100 meters away, as the crow flies is in full bloom. Which totally works with my sinuses.. NOT. Shopping this morning when I hustle my butt.. I had a very late night, well early morning. I watched the Green Mile again. I still see things Id forgotten. but it went over an hour longer than the TV Guide said. So it was well after Midnight when it finished. I got the Owl Almost finished. Just one light colour to go. I think he looks better done than not lol. Ill finish him later. I've decided to do my Stained Glass window Iris one next. I also have a Tulip one in the same genre too. I saw a lot more too. You could have them displayed in a group and they would be lovely. So that might be my theme for the year. Have a wonderful day everyone RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 02-01-2025 Well, that was more weeding than I had planned ![]() ![]() We could use the rain as well, popeye. It is really dry here with all that wind. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 02-01-2025 Yes that awful business yesterday brought me to tears. When I was dealing with the carnage that left me a widow on one side of Rotorua, on the other a traffic cop had been shotgunned in the face, so resources were stretched and tragedy magnified. I do not understand assaulting police, or medicos, or any other public servant. They do incredible thankless jobs at the best of times, and every one of us depends on them sooner or later, attacking them is beyond stupid. I hope they lock this idiot up and throw away the key. I am enjoying the cool this morning, the silver skies beyond the green trees. And the view from my little side window with its new addition is making me very happy. But I really must finish the edge of that curtain. One day. https://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/2177368886.jpg RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 02-01-2025 (01-01-2025, 06:15 PM)Olive Wrote:(01-01-2025, 04:06 PM)kiwimade64 Wrote: Olive, MrK spotted an advert for the spray. Gorgeous view - & I think the wear & tear soft blurred tiny fringing effect on the curtain just adds to it. Yes, you really have to wonder what has happened to someone, to bring them to a point where they'd do such a thing to someone doing their best to keep the peace. Not a happy start to the year. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 02-01-2025 You are enabling my laziness, lol... RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 02-01-2025 Our main road has been closed since 11.00am due to an accident. Through FB snippets we think a cyclist has been knocked off their bike. A woman was asking to borrow someone's paddock for her horse as she has been caught up in it. Huge detours and queues to add to an already busy day on SH1. We heard the rescue helicopter land and take off. A sad start to 2025 for some families. Our lawn mower guy will have to come another day as the police won't let him through even though we are well away from the accident. One of the worst things about holiday road tolls is the way it ruins that holiday for ever for all those connected to the victim. Anniversary grief. It is a brave soul who rides a bike these days... RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 02-01-2025 I've ridden a bicycle on SH29 once and never, ever again. The road is far too busy, and cars pass at speed and then there are the trucks. The road is open again now. RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 02-01-2025 An interesting day; managed to finish clearing the last of the weeds from along the fence & cut back the Jasmine again. Then Sweetide darling no.2 turned up & hung up the fly curtain for me & pumped up my bike tyres. So far so good...I really, really should have known. Managed to utterly muck up a painting; it seemed to have a mind of its own so I eventually told it to beetle off. Might have another look tomorrow, might chuck it up the gully or rework it, might just delete it. Although, I did manage to find Mum's old recipe books inclusdng one which was from WW2, with various recipes to cope with rationing which sweetie darling found interesting, especially the section on preserving stuff, which he's been doing lately - proper jars & everything. Not sure if DIL helps or is just a very interested bystander... |
