The country roads around the Waikato terrify me; trucks, rudely driven overpowered utes and dithering tourists.   Before we moved here I thought that it would be a simple thing to visit the surrounding villages but I was wrong.   And as for the Kaimai range - I will do anything to avoid it.

I totally understand the way you are feeling Hunni.

Anytime I hear of the Police, ambos etc being the center of crime I think of our Awesome Policeman Murray Stretch being Killed. It will be 26 years on May 26th... I think of him Often and the whole team at Mangakino.

Was such a traumatic time for the town. But it brought people closer too. He had been at our place the night before.

The really odd thing was the new guy they brought in, whose name escapes me at the mo, Not only looked like "stretch" but he waved the same. It was like "stretch" was still in town.

They do the most hardest jobs in our country . most of the time Thankless. They put their lives on the line for Us. Sadly the Fwits just see a uniform and dont give a dam.

Carlos is out now. Stretches partner and the boys have all moved away thank goodness.

I found my scrapbook of it a couple of weeks ago.

Our Foxy Pups were born on the first Anniversary of Stretch passing.

I think it is projection popeye. The idiots projecting their own guilt and jealousy onto those charged with looking after them. Like teenagers and parents.

That pickled pork i did today was lovely, with plain boiled new potatoes and purple sparrowgrass. Buttered. Very nice first course, but the steamed pud with raisins, over crabapple jelly with hokey pokey ice cream, oh that was so worth all the fuss in making. And the dishes.

Part of my 'Do not spend so long online' campaign. So far so good, but it is only the second day...

Right again Hunni.. They will always make out its the good peoples fault.

I had my fave schnitzel and salad tonight,, So that will totally mess with the warfarin... but I needed it and enjoyed it.

On the spending front I didn't need to today.

A mate I met on TM B1anca decided I didn't have enough Diamond paintings. So is ordering me some but not telling me what they are.. Feeding my Habit lol..   She has over 150 so it makes my 10 or so look like Im the starving child in a  field .

I heard her voice for the first time the other day on a post she put on FB.. We met when she was looking after her very sick Aunt and trying to figure out how to make more money. Been through a lot together including both losing our hubby/ partner..

morning ladies Smile Can it please rain! If there is no rain, the hose will have to go on the garden.

Housework for me this morning, it's long overdue.

Over the last few evenings, the kids next door have been flying kites. We've had some really strong winds, so they have been having lots of fun with it. The adults got involved as well lol and were having just as much fun. I think the adults were probably having more fun than the kids lol. It's something we haven't seen for quite a while.

The accident yesterday was a fatality Sad I agree with you Olive, drivers in the Waikato drive like nutters. We have to go over the Kaimais occasionally and see some really dodgy driving most times.

Still picking away at tacking the embroidery design onto fabric and am still debating whether to use cutwork or just padded satin stitch or a combination of both. I'm leaning towards both.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 03-01-2025

Good morning.

We're in Geraldine and it's raining.  DH will  be pleased to get in some indoor activities ie a visit to an old car museum and a military museum. A visit is planned later in Timaru to catch up with a nephew and family who made a spur of the momemt move from Hamilton.

It's mind boggling seeing people risk theirs and everyone else's lives on the road with their driving antics.  We're seeing it all ... the cyclists are so vulnerable with the crazy drivers about especially at this time of year with the roads so busy. That accident near Pond Road tragic as was the polucewoman's death in Nelson.

Time to get moving, enjoy the day all.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 03-01-2025

There was another fatal accident at Pond Rd not long ago between a contracting tractor and a car, Roma. Senseless, commonsense has gone out the window.

The Furry One and I were doing 'the rounds' of the garden when we came across a Furry Feind. Everyone was surprised lol. The Furry Feind escaped within a snap of the Furry One's jaws.

Here we go again, a police car screaming by with sirens.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 03-01-2025

Morning everyone

Still no rain here.

I hate the roads. More so the Motorway. I only go on that if someone else is driving.. I figure if on Great South road , going to the clinics etc at least I would be able to say where I have broken down etc.

I finished the Owl yesterday. Cant say it was one I enjoyed. I will kit down later today. Think I will do the Four Trees one Bianca sent me next.

Off to see the ladies today and to meet The "Mother in law".. I hope she has a sense of humour cos its sort of Pick on David today. Start a Joke and I will carry it on. With help from Dianne on the side lines who is just as cheeky as I am lol.

Have a fab day all

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 03-01-2025

I was delighted yesterday to see a second series of Rogue Heroes is back on tvnz plus, so watched two of those last night while pinning a little piece of needlepoint out to even out the sides, I am going to centre it on a piece of floral linen and overstitch and maybe add a bit of old velvet ribbon to make a pretty cushion cover. Another bit of crafting I came across in the internet drought sort out that I don't want to dispose of, at least not till I have made something of it. I do love doing needlepoint, especially the gorgeous English kits, butterflies and flowers and the occasional complicated oriental rug based one.

Years back I got quite addicted when the surgeons were rebuilding my leg and I had to spend months in non weightbearing casts, the stitchery became a way to occupy hours of enforced inactivity. The kits started me off and I ended up making rugs and table carpets, that I still really enjoy using all these years later. The hours behind those tiny stitches are quite mind blowing if I pause to consider it, and interestingly, I don't regret any one of them. There is something about the way time melts when I have a needle in my fingers. And a massive stash of coloured yarns is another secret pleasure! Which I confess I have just added to with another TM indulgence, mixed blue yarns for yet another winter sweater, and at a bargain price - a rare thing for wools these days, it is an expensive pastime.

Still, considering the joy there is in the making, probably a good investment in mental health!

Morning all
Rain over night stopped about 8.30 sun is trying to emerge through the overcast skies currently. K9 is looking to DH hopefully for a walk since he stupidly mentioned instead of saying one of those W things. When we really don't wont the k9 to know we are talking about him we talk about god- dog spelt backwards  Big Grin

OHH good to get wool  at good price and agree re hand stitchery. Hand work has seem me through a few chronic fatigue episodes. When I had a month of plasma exchange I took my handanger projects made something for 4 of my closest  friends.

Roma sounds like you are enjoying your time in South Island

DS family popped in to go for a swim before dinner yesterday  DGS confidence in the water is growing each time he comes. Two year old DGD2 up u til yesterday just wanted to be carried in the pool well she decided that she wanted to kick with  flutter board float on her back and blow bubbles very confident.

Have done a dash to supermarket which was well stocked and not busy shocker $$$$ for what I thought was a small top up shop Sad

Not sure what I will get up to today.

Enjoy your day

RE: You can never have enough... - Jan - 03-01-2025

My Mum always used to fill the punch bowl with her home made ginger beer on New Year’s Eve and add sliced citrus and strawberries - we would each get one of the posh glasses reserved for the occasion and a fancy plate with haggis fritters - my Dad would play the bagpipes and Mum would toast us all with what I have subsequently found out is an Irish poem which I am wishing for you all
May you blessings be more and your troubles less and nothing but happiness come through your door

What a terrible start to the year it has been -when I first heard the news I thought it would have been a teenager making a really stupid decision but the perpetrator being a grown man makes it even worse .Then the news broke yet another baby has been murdered - third in three months - I hope Turiana didn’t hear the news - she was still very active in fighting to get the law changed around custody - she will be sorely missed

Popeye have you ever considered baking and selling it - a young widow we helped last year sold ten lemon meringue pies for $50 each - and 1000 chocolate eclair cases un filled for $4.50each - she bought all the eggs cheap Robies birthday special 20 eggs for $3.99 - so she made the eclairs for 90c each - she could have sold more - she was very judicious an order wasn’t an order until the money went into her account
She is taking her children on their first holiday since their father was killed .

I have been given a heap of beetroot - the long type some of them are as big as those Japanese radish - not sure if they will be worth bottling - any thoughts ?

One of my granddaughters surprised us all announcing her engagement - very pleased - they were Uni flat mates - I always liked him as he had good manners and he automatically picked up after himself - never just dumped his dishes on the bench like many of the other make flatmates did - both went in different directions after they graduated until they were on opposing sides in a courtroom last year - she lost and he sent her flowers and that was the beginning of what I hope will be a wonderful romance

Going for a walk in the reserve it’s so humid

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 04-01-2025

morning ladies Smile We had heavy rain overnight but I'm still going out into the garden this morning.

Happy New Year to you too, Jan Smile What about beetroot relish? Mum had an awesome recipe, and it never lasted long in our home. MrK's niece and her fiancé eloped over Christmas Heart We are so happy for them both.

I'm so with you about the mental health benefits of handcrafts, OHH. I also have no regrets for the time spent on them. I still have a piece I worked on as MrK had his first aortic valve replacement and each bit reminds me of all the tests he had to go through beforehand. It kept me sane. Now it's keeping me sane with this enforced rest business.

Yesterday we visited MrK's sister and her husband to see their new home. It's gorgeous with room for a brand new garden. What I would give to plan a new garden from scratch lol. We came home with a bit of family silver, a gorgeous wee cream jug, some dessert spoons and a Christening set. They all need a polish, something I can do while resting. And a couple of retro woolen single blankets which may be too small for the beds we have. If they are, I'll figure out something to do with them.

Time to move and get weeding. The ground will be lovely and soft after the rain.

Happy crafting Smile

No plans for today will find something to keep me occupied

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 04-01-2025

Morning everyone

We had good rain overnight too.. But I want to see it happen lol.

Had a lovely time at the home yesterday. David and his mum came in. She is Lovely. We all got on well with a little ribbing from me. His leg is a mess. First time I've seen him in pain. He has cellulitis too. Told him off and said to go home and rest it. Even said buy your tea tonight and his Mother said she had told him the same lol. Dianne told him how to make a Honey Poultice so hopefully he did.
I convinced him to keep the wheelchair for today. They are meeting people in the city at a restaurant and he doesn't know how long the walk will be. I said it will be good for both of you to have the chair.

Up here Jan you have to have a certified kitchen. There are a couple of ladies here who bake and sell. I've done it for friends. When we lived in Mangakino before the new rules came in the CWI baking stalls and Christmas stalls were always a good time to make money. People who knew my baking would be there first every time. I remember one Christmas I even sold our own cake and fruit mince pies lol.

Dianne's hubby Paul who is quite , Particular is a good way of putting it reckons my shortbread is the best he has had. Coming from him its a big compliment .

Got home yesterday and moved the dead lazyboy into a spare room. And I've moved the shelves etc around. Not sure if my new chairs will arrive today or tomorrow but I need to be ready. Cos Paul wont want to waste time when they bring it in. He's not a man who can sit and do nothing. He needs to be busy to relax.

I am going to make a small change this morning tho, wo Missys eating area. Ill use a couple pf bookcases I use for wool, put that in a crate. And bring the shelves out here. I have a piece of wood for the top to sit the alarm and clock on again.

First Ill let the pain med work tho. May have over done things a little .. Lol..

Have a fab day all

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 04-01-2025

I packed up and sent off a couple of highly desirable but a bit busted typewriters to a friend who has more mechanical expertise than I have, and enclosed a Roladex card file of the same generation - 1960s or 70s, for him to use if he fancied, and this morning got an email from him expressing his glee at the gift. It is so lovely when an impulse move proves to be exactly right, and we find the perfect home for something valued. One more object rehomed in my svedish death clean campaign - just as well, if he manages to fix the typewriters, lol. Though one of these two isn't bound for my use, I found it for a friend who wants to type up some of her late husbands handwritten diaries for his sons. The other machine though is an ultralite portable, which makes it very useful, like a tablet over a desktop machine. I shall be able to write stting up in bed in the winter, warm and cosy and engaged if he can get it typing without the graunching noises!

Looking around my tiny flat, I am definitely making progress on the decluttering front. I am rather enjoying the diminishing pile of To Be Sorted things, but I do wonder if maybe I should prune the jungle...

Next month maybe.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 04-01-2025

Im now reclining in a lovely lazyboy type chair. Funny enough it the same colour as the lounge suite we got several years ago that MrP ruined.

Theres a consul in-between two seats. Which is a brilliant place to keep the remotes etc.. EXCEPT that Madam has decided that's her place. Next to Mummy and nicely cushioned lol.. Until I needed to get the remote of course lol. So I have it covered and have moved the remotes.

So Im fooling myself and saying its a 50/50 win to us both.

OMG the lifter chair was sooo heavy. It took Dianne and I both to get it around the corners to hide it in a room, Until May when the Inorganic Collector's can lift the sucker.

I know they appreciated that I had everything sorted and cleaned ready to put them into place.

I got two crates of wool off two of the white bookcases I got a year or two ago and have them against the wall with a board across the top, with the St Johns Alarm and digital clock on top. And my Pretty Maxwell and Willams Milk jugs and sugar bowls. With some Violet mugs to match. I must look out for the pretty pink Rose ones to match the second set.

Dianne Said there you go Fanny can sleep in the other chair.. lol I said over my dead body. lol.

Tomorrow I will finally put the Christmas stuff away, instead of it sitting on the bed. Might even put the legs back on the bed. Then that's ready for her in May.

Once that is done the Sewing room is my next mission. Anything that day cares can use can be boxed up. And I need to get some order back in there. It looked so good a few months ago lol... probably cos I wasn't walking much back then lol.

Had a lovely piece of rump steak and Chips for tea.. It was Yummy. There wasn't any affordable fish to be had at New World yesterday.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 05-01-2025

morning ladies Smile It's supposed to rain today, fingers crossed it does.

Lovely that you have everything set up the way you want it, popeye Smile

MrK dug one spud plant yesterday and we have enough spuds to eat for ourselves and share with two neighbours. The new spud patch is worth its weight in gold.

I spent some of my 'down' time polishing the silver my sister-in-law gave us the other day. Turns out the spoons are egg spoons for eating boiled eggs. I think they would be perfect for ice cream and MrK reckons for spooning out feijoas. Doesn't matter, we're using them. I also checked out the markings on the wee cream jug and it looks like it was stamped anywhere between 1777 and 1778. Only a couple of very small dents hardly visible to the eye after 350 years. When I'm in town next I'll pop into the jewelers and ask about having it resilvered and/or how to polish it properly. MrK wants it with the other family silver but it's going into the cupboard to be used. I would think it originally was part of a tea/coffee set. Would love to have the rest of it.

Yesterday I ran out of oommph very quickly so weeding came to a standstill. I'll have another go this morning.

Still tacking the embroidery design, slowly but surely getting there.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 05-01-2025

Morning everyone

It has rained overnight. And quite chilly this morning.

By bedtime my knee was killing me. The foot of the chair has to be pushed back in. But it will adjust. It did last time we had chairs like these. Being new it will help strengthen the muscles too. Its still sort of weak on the pushing backwards side.
Missy has to jump a bit higher than she did before. But she too will get used to it I could swap the bookcases I suppose. Ill see how she goes today.

I want to get the Christmas stuff put away today tho. Thats my first mission.

Started my Four Trees picture yesterday. Its like the four seasons, and all edged in Black.

Have a fab day all

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 05-01-2025

You must've woken up my furniture moving gene popeye cos that's what I did yesterday afternoon too. Taking advantage of a bit of cleared space - I think it's okay, but I'll live with it for a few days before I declare it sorted! And I changed the sheets a couple of days early, such a palaver with the big bed in a tight space but worth it for the cool crispies on a humid night.

And pulled my first tomatoes off the vines, taste test at lunchtime, looking forward to that!

RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 05-01-2025

Morning all
Still windy and overcast

Did go into city to try visit the Cloth Shop just to see their fabric in person city was crazy no parks within 5 blocks so back on motorway and off into Thornton to visit the Fine Cloth Shop. A cotton/lycra sateen black background with high contrast vibrant colours followed me home along with bright turquoise  cotton lining. Its washed and dried ready to go.

No plans for today just waiting for DH to get back and will have a coffee with him

Enjoy your day
