I think that kind of death would be sad, but strangely comforting. It is a kind ending, to sleep, perchance to dream. Forever.

Yup, I'd quite like that.

Me too. A cat yes but not a human.

One of my sisters-in-law is a retired nurse and she says dying at around 3.00am is common. No one really knows why but my guess is it is nice and quiet and a peaceful time for most.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 10-01-2025

morning ladies Smile We're in for another fine day, still cool though with the wind.

MrK is back building the gate and fence between the house and the rainwater tank. He's been having mobility issues over the last few days and yesterday he found he could move a tad freer. I suspect a groin strain from sitting on the ground to work on the fence and then standing up.

Housework for me today, you can tell where I sit in the evening lol. Lots of little bits of thread everywhere where I missed the Jimbos container I usually put them in.

The Furry One caught another Furry Feind yesterday so didn't have to feed him his dinner. He was very pleased with himself. Silly rabbit ran towards instead of away from him so was an easy catch.

Happy crafting Smile

Morning everyone

Chillish here too. It feels really weird to be saying that in the middle of summer.

MrP died at 4am in the morning. And it was really quiet and peaceful.

Off to the home today.. A normal visit day no painting or craft.

David almost sounds like he will be home today but possibly back to hospital next week. But he also wants to fly down to Napier to be with his family for the 9th anniversary of his Dad passing.. The day before MrP died. So neither of us will forget each others loss.

The furry one is certainly keeping the plants from losing their heads Kiwimade.

I got the wardrobe in my glory box cleared yesterday and moved in some stuff. All my red and white bed and bathroom linen. My new pots and pans etc. It feels good lol.

Ready to hit the sewing room over the weekend.

Have a fab day all

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 10-01-2025

Good morning.

A beautiful day in New Plymouth and we are homeward bound. But first a bike ride on the coastal trail.

So lucky to cross the Cook Strait 3 days ago when it was sunny and calm.  We heard so many stories of those who endured the high seas or missed out on  their sailing times and had trouble rebooking. Can't argue with the weather though!

A couple of days spent in (cold and wet) Welly with son and family.  Back to the real world after today.

What would you do without the pest controller KM!

My mum never woke up at 4am. Calm way to go.

Love the cat stories ... I've made sure to befriend the cats we've met on our travels.  Specially beautiful was the tubby British Blue who wanted to hang out with us.  I had one years ago who steered clear of strangers. Not much between the ears though,  lol! Cats with brains are a challenge ... my burmese boy was for sure!

Enjoy the day all.

My Tatty is one of those quiet beasties whose hobbies consist of sleeping in as many places as possible. One of my neighbours has a cat who hunts and she is always moaning about corpses and feathers while envying my passed out furbaby, who really is the calmest quietest companion I have ever had. Always close, usually asleep nearby enough for a quiet stroke. A good choice for an old lady, lol.

I came across an archive entry for a great uncle last night which gave such glorious detail about his short life it had to have come from a close family member, a really neat accidental find that will go straight into the family history I am typing up. I had spent the afternoon cleaning the sticky keys of the latest typewriter addition to the collection and fitting a new ribbon - she types beautifully now, not a single issue with this pretty little machine. So maybe the universe had spotted my diligence and decided to reward me with a nice chunk of already completed research. There was a rather lovely head shot too of my Victorian grandfather, complete with his little round specs that brought back a flood of memories, he was a teacher at Grammar for 25 years and raised me like one of his pupils, sternly and diligent with academic challenge. He's to blame for me being a nerd...

And I vacuumed, and mopped the vinyl floors, so it was a very productive day yesterday.

It must have been shattering.

A black tortoiseshell cat I had years ago did a similar thing, slept on my bed curled up next to her brother as usual & died during the night. She was the one who liked to sit on my shoulder.
Heaps of character.

Sweetied darling no.2 hooked up new/old washer for me yesterday & this morning discovered the damn thing's leaking..oh joy. I feel annoyed that I'll be taking more of his time off work but as I'm useless at such things, there's no help for it.

Just learned yesterday that third eldest granddaughter is having a wee girl, so their lad will be a big brother, really pleased for them.

Well, I take it back! My Tatty went visiting one of the neighbour cats and got soundly screeched at by the resident feline. Tatty didn't seem very discombobulated but her spine was standing up like a brush when she sauntered in, though I think she was a tad ashamed of herself. She was studiously ignoring my polite enquiries as to exactly what did she think she was doing...

I think she blames the other cat. Whose name, by the way, is Hunni...

Had a lovely time at the home. Everyone was cheerful.

But Talking of Cats.. There was a new one there. Long haired, a lighter grey and white than resident Cat George is. She was sitting curled up in the middle of the lounge. I went up to it and got the perfunctory Meow.

Pity it was a toy.. but it moved its head and ears and spoke back. The perfect cat for a rest home resident.. No feeding or toileting to worry about. Wont need the vet. Im assuming it had batteries.

For Fake it was a very good one. Shoot I should have asked if it purred... I think I know who the owner is, Ill have to catch her when her son isn't there cos he is a creep.

Good timing for your info Hunni.. I found out how small the world is. Im in a diamond painting group and long story short I met the niece of My stepfathers Youngest Sister. Niece by marriage. her Uncle passed away in November but Zelma ( Officially my Step Aunt) is still alive, is 90 years old and living in Whanganui near her children , which are probably my age.

Brimblecombe is not a common name, hence me asking her.

Its a stunning day here today. Was grey this morning.

I have the whole weekend to go through my sewing room... if Im not here Sunday or Monday Morning its cos Im buried Send help lol.

Phew it is hot out there! MrK is enjoying a quiet beer and I joined him with a lime and Jalapeno soft drink (something different) but it's wayyyy too hot for me to stay outside. We've heard today a friend who was 61 died of a heart attack just after Christmas. Toasted to his good health and remembered happier times. We are all so lucky to see 2025 Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 11-01-2025

Morning ladies Smile Another very hot day on the cards, I already have the hose on the garden. Blimmen hose has sprung a leak and we have a geyser on the lawn lol. Oh well, until I can tape it or cut the hose and refit the fittings, it can spurt away onto the garden.

I need to move the potted begonias. For the last three years they have thrived where they are but now, the flowers are starting to burn from the sun. Just shows how quickly the temperatures are rising.

I don't know if anyone saw video clip of the truck overtaking two cars on a passing lane going over the Kaimai Range the other day on the news. It was a large local company and we often become pis*** off with their drivers. That passing lane has a double yellow line and a steep gradient with a blind corner at the bottom. It looked pretty scary. Would love to hear the truckies point of view.

Yesterday I gave up on the tacking as I couldn't line everything up properly for some reason. Unpicked it, went into town and bought a product similar to wash away only it sticks to the fabric (I pinned it to be sure). Retraced the design and stuck it to the fabric with a bit of fiddling. My lightbox died on me so ended up sitting at a window and tracing the design the old fashioned way with it all taped to the glass lol. At some stage I'll replace the lightbox but it won't be through Amazon thanks to the high US$$$$.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - Olive - 11-01-2025

I watched that video clip in horror.   I wonder if the driver was properly licensed?   The company owning the truck isn't exactly renowned for its integrity.    A few years ago there was a big scandal about corruption in several Waikato branches of VTNZ whereby some officials were selling licences, particularly heavy truck licenses.   Every time I see a badly behaved truck I wonder about the capability of the driver.

We've seen some horrible truck driving when driving back from Auckland late at night - articulated trucks driving in convoys and having fun by overtaking one another on narrow country roads.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 11-01-2025

Morning everyone.

Its chilly Ish here so far lol..

Yes I saw the kaimai truck Kiwimade.. I would not have wanted to be in the car he was passing. But like you I would want to know if the car was going so slow that the truck had to pass to keep moving.

Have you considered asking MrK to make you a light box? a simple wiring with a light bulb on the inside under glass. I've gone through soo many cheaper light pads. But have seen others have them made for them. You could use a fitting that takes multiple size bulbs until you get the right brightness.

Back into the sewing room today. After Ive emptied the recycling into the wheelie bin. It will be full this week.

Have a wonderful day everyone

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 11-01-2025

You would know the passing lane, roma.  And how steep the gradient is.  Gives me the willies everytime I overtake on it and try to avoid it if I can.  And yes, the company involved isn't the best.  When we were in business, they would withhold their payments to us for three months before paying.  They did it with all businesses back then and they were so big it was hard to argue with them.  It made it very hard to pay bills and it was partially why we closed the doors.

MrK has offered to make me one, popeye Smile  Might take him up on the offer.

We picked our first blueberries for the season this morning.  Can't wait to have them at lunchtime.  The neighbours kids commented they were 'funny looking blueberries' lol.  Explained it was because they hadn't ripened yet.  And they also said they were really looking forward to the grapes from our grapevine growing over onto their property.  Town kids moving to the country and they are loving it.

This report in the Herald includes the speed of the vehicle whose dashcam was recording the incident (which the TV footage chose to crop out at the crucial time). I can totally understand the truckie's frustration with a slow car in the 'passing lane' doing around 45kph as the truck was trying to maintain momentum on a long uphill climb. Once the truck loses that momentum it becomes a real grind for them as they juggle between low gears. The overtaken car is just fortunate that the truck didn't choose to overtake them on the left, as I would have done in the same situation (though in rewatching the video the truck being overtaken by both of them would have prevented this).

My observation is that the truck travelling at speed came upon a car hogging the passing lane who failed to move over or accelerate when the truck started filling his rear vision mirror (possibly also warning the car with a horn blast but no audio on the dashcam video) so was forced to decide whether to brake and lose his uphill momentum or use his speed to overtake, admittedly with some risk involved. Also the front pillar and speed recorded by the dashcam would suggest it was in another truck which the J-Swap truck was just completing an overtaking move on so what added risk was then presented if the overtaking truck chose to stay behind the white car? Cut in short on the other truck or be beside it as the passing lane finished?

Having travelled that road many times I know that similar situations aren't uncommon and that the behaviour of light vehicles is often very inconsiderate and frequently dangerous to other road users and particular heavy vehicles.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 11-01-2025

I agree, harm_less. As a 'frequent flyer' (not literally!) on the Kaimai Range, I've pretty much seen the lot. BUT in saying that, there was a double yellow line and a blind corner coming up. Quite the risk to take. Damed if you do, damed if you don't. Just glad it wasn't us coming round that blind corner, and it could easily have been us. Am really tempted to put a dash cam in our car, it would save a lot of he-said-she-said-they-said.
