Grandkids can be ever so handy sometimes, can't they Jan. What a shame so much will have to be wasted but it wouldn't be worth the risk of keeping any.

Perhaps the SPCA might do a visit to the neighbours with all the cats?
Started on what I hope is the final painting, not sure I like it but will see. The deadline is getting close now so can't muck about.

Cooler here & threatening rain; none so far so it'll probably wait untill later whan I have to venture out. The sentry bird went into overdrive this morning & I had to bring Madame Le cat indoors for a while, then let her out a bit later when all was quiet. Litle did I know - damned bird was lurking & started squawking again!

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 14-01-2025

morning ladies Smile Another gorgeous day on the cards. The weather is hot enough to take the chilly bin with me to the supermarket for the chilled stuff.

I've been reading on Stuff a new funnel web spider has been found in Sydney. It grows to twice the size of the others. It reminded me of my granddad showing me the trap door spiders at Pleasent Point when I was a kid. My sister-in-law would also have loved this as she was an entomologist specialising in spiders.

We have a guy coming very shortly to put the grab handle up in the bathroom. Such a relief to have that done.

Yesterday MrK was able to walk for a bit without his stick. Whatever was making him so sore, is finally clearing up. He still needs his walker and stick though.

Yesterday I had a follow up ECG and the readings were all over the place. I was in full flutter and it showed. The nurse said she didn't know how to read them but even she could see something wasn't right. I told her it would be a doozy lol.

Coffee is finished and so is the washing machine. The Furry One is nudging me to go outside and do 'the garden rounds'. He sniffs the perimeter to make sure there have been no 'intruders'.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 14-01-2025

Good morning.

Clear blue sky ... hopefully the cold southerly is dying out at last.

Back into the real world with GC to mind yesterday. The school holidays are disappearing fast. We spent the weekend catching up around the place and today I have seedlings to fill a few gaps. We had a great time away exploring but it's always good to be home again.

I'm glad I can garden with no surprise creepy crawlies and/or snakes lurking! The worst thing are the paper wasps and their surprise attack method! Fortunately not many seen here in town.

Nothing worse than a turned off freezer ... glad you had help Jan. I hope the "house from hell" situation and all those cats can be sorted ASAP. It's pleasing to read Kainga Ora have been more proactive in dealing with bad tenants in recent times.

It will be good when your "condition" is resolved KM ... annoying for you. Keep up the good work Furry One.

Time to move before it gets hot, a quiet house with DH back at work and no time constraints.

Enjoy the day all.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 14-01-2025

Morning everyone

Not quite so chilly this morning.

The security of handles etc certainly eases ones mind KM. I hope they can sort your ticker out.

I got my appointment to see the general surgeon about my tummy flaps yesterday. Jan 30th. Hopefully they can take those away and it will make a huge difference. You wouldn't believe how hot it can get under there.... Once they are gone Ill definitely have to buy new jeans lol. The ones I have are too big anyway, but with the spare bits gone it will be nice and streamlined lol

David visited the home while out of hospital on Sunday.. telling them he touched Max on his nose and told him he has to behave. Problem solved apparently.. The fool.. He's asking for trouble. I just hope he doesn't attack a human or animals again. He's gone back into hospital. Why do men play with their health, he knows he could have lost his legs, but doesnt seem to think that will happen.

Im going to head back into the sewing room today. Ill go through the pantries and then probably change things around a bit.
First thing Ill sew is to repair the curtains on the ranch slider. I had to add a few inches to the top, and its coming apart. It was a rush job at the time. but it needs to be mended and made more stable. Ill swap them over too.

Have a fab day all

Off up coast again this morning asthe sandals that were at knock down price $100 cheaper that I spied last week . The lovely sales lady found my size in another store even though they had current stock at full price. We meeting friends for lunch back here in nearby suburb
Not sure what I will do this afternoon.

Enjoy your  day

RE: You can never have enough... - Jan - 14-01-2025

Beautiful afternoon in the Bay - maybe summer has arrived finally - the farmers reacted to the December forecast and sent stock early to the meatworks or out of town for grazing as according to the met service we were going to have no rain and temperatures in the high 30s until February instead we had snow on the hills and torrential rain - my lawn is looking stunning it is usually nearly dead this time of the year with water restrictions
My fridge problem all fixed - it’s times like this I realise how lucky I am to have such a supportive family - my grandaughter had brought me home when I found it - straight away she was texting her brother and her cousins to get around here with their rubber gloves and pegs for their noses .It’s an improvement on my old fridge - the freezer is a drawer on the bottom - then it has another drawer for fruit and veggie - my other fridge had the freezer on the bottom and things tended to end up in the back corner .If I had to cope on my own would have been horrendous - getting rid of the freezer contents would have been a real problem- they just took it up to Robies and dumped it in his huge bins plus the old fridge so that was convenient and gathered up the food to restock my fridge and freezer while they were there .
The fires in LA are horrendous- brought back memories we were living in Springwood in the Blue Mountains in 2013 when the huge fire went through there - my husband had been fined $20,000 for cutting down all the trees close to our house - he refused to pay and had been summoned to court 6 weeks after the fire - houses all around us were burned to the ground only four survived - we only lost our letterbox - we never heard anymore about the fine - at the time Kuaka was preparing their boat to sail away - I can remember being so homesick we were stuck in a motel somewhere as we weren’t allowed to go back for two weeks and reading her wonderful posts made me so envious - there was a lady who owned a cat litter factory Jayem and Sunflower - that was a long time ago
The 501 purchased the 1.5 million house next door to my cousin - the SPCA sent a lady out with some more cages - the first time they came out in SPCA van and so neighbours son threw a rock so they are being very cautious hoping 501 won’t notice - the partner grew up in the village her grandparents woukd be turning over in their grave

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 15-01-2025

morning ladies Smile The fog is a real peasouper this morning, you can't see across the road.

Yes, Jan, you are lucky to have family so close. Our daughter is four hours away and our son is in Perth. Hopefully the SPCA will catch the cats and find homes for them. Maybe they need a police officer to escort them.

This morning I'm off to Tirau, my sister-in-law needs some stuff from a shop there and we will be seeing her soon. I don't think she has even thought she could order online. Oh well lol. Tirau isn't far away and it's an interesting place to nosey about in.

Lovely to hear Princess Kate is in remission Smile Heart Always good to hear when the cancer battle is being won. Fingers and everything crossed she stays this way.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 15-01-2025

Good morning everyone

Another brilliant day here.

Glad you had help with the fridge etc. And so nice to hear of the young ones helping. So many wouldn't have given it a thought.

Worked in two pantries yesterday. The third only has wool, but I will sort it at some stage. I now have nearly half a pantry spare. Still a long way from being tidy. And Im holding off vacuuming until its done.

I finished my picture last night. I do love it. Ill take a photo later. I will see if one of the many frames Ive dug up will fit.

Off to painting today. And talking of that I have found several packets of brushes. More than enough felt pens etc. I will go through all the felt pens at some stage and see what still work. The only thing I have put aside are beads. Well some of them lol. I will ask my friend in CHCH if she would like them. She makes stitch markers so they may be useful for that.

Have a wonderful day everyone

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 15-01-2025

I had fun last night, my kitchen mixer tap decided to misbehave and the cold control tap froze open on full bore, a lot of water went down the drain. An hour of cataract went by before the emergency plumber arrived and turned it off by forcing the tap, oh to have a decent grip, lol. He is arranging for a replacement today, one with a lever control, suitable for ancient dames with arthritic hands - lovely man. So I am taking things quietly this morning until that is organised. To the unmelodic drone of a weedeater as the contractors are here early, catching up on the delayed christmas mowing. With the cooler weather our lawns is really overgrown so it will be good to get that sorted...

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 15-01-2025

Ohh you have to love it when the plumbing misbehaves lol. We had a fountain in the kitchen a couple of years ago lol. What a blimmen mess. You will love the new lever tap, so much easier to use.

RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 15-01-2025

Morning all
Even raining sun trying to break through

Been to gym and had a shower not much more activity here until we go out to pick up a friend and go out for coffee and snack.
Glad you are getting the plumbing sorted OHH lever taps great. We had kitchen flood in old house  8 years ago  the cold dishwasher pipe decided to  leak new floor new kitchen which took 6 months to sort  with a few hijinks. The insurance contractors a bunch of cowboys. Red faces when I refused to let their electrician  do any work as he wasn't certified and couldn't supply code compliance cert that was just one instance of incompetent contractors. I am not afraid to complain further up hierarchy

My wee cross body purse zip  has broken will need to look for replacement too hard to replace zip. Will need to look for some leather or similar to make new one, its great small holds my cards in card slots and room for phone and sunglasses  have received Richard  Osman  new book  we solve murders as audio book impressed as last time I looked  I was 80th in line and due to get it in April  so I will have something to listen to while putting in sewing cave

Enjoy your day

My timing was impeccable the grandkids are all home from uni working at the supermarket to negate the need for a student loan .My other son is 2.5 hours away living out from Central Hawkes Bay and my other grandchildren are in Oz
I used to love stopping at Tīrau when we were travelling around in the motor home - still have some beautiful Italian serving platters I bought from a pop up shop - they were as cheap as chips - the seller would have been perfect for a mafia movie .The Oxford bakery had the best custard squares
Do you ever hear from Kuaka
Very humid here today - showers are forecast

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 15-01-2025

I loved Tirau too, when we lived in Taupo. It was a real day out, and great shopping.

I am having fun rediscovering fountain pens and cursive writing - I found the pens in my sorting out and picked up a couple of converters for them this morning at my favourite bespoke stationers shop. And some coloured inks! Which turn out to be very muddy from the nibs as the new ink dissolves leftover pigments that have dried out in the nib feeds. Boy my hand has deteriorated over the years, I will have to put in some serious practice if it is ever to regain legibiliity let alone any kind of skillfulness. Not much point in using cursive if it isn't done well.

It does go rather well with this new found pleasure in typewriters though, so I shall give it some serious effort! I might need one of those old writing exercise books - I wonder if they still make them, you know, the ones with half lines marked in so you could keep inside them! Back to my childhood, in my old age...

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 15-01-2025

yes, you can still buy them, OHH Smile They are used by new entrants when learning letter size. Now is the time to look as school stationery is out ready for school. I love fountain pens. But being a leftie, I had to modify how I sat and where my arm was as I would drag the ink across the page. I'm also from the generation who learned cursive but my sister, who is 18 months younger than me, missed out.

We've been out for lunch with family Smile to celebrate MrK's twin sisters 80th birthday. There was an elderly lady who asked me if we were a gardening group and I said, no, we're all family and we're celebrating an 80th. She said she was 86 and aiming for 100! She also said how lovely it was to see a family debating (we had a rather heated debate on politics with MrK's cousin) and still laughing at the end. I said, well, he knows I'm right Tongue

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 15-01-2025

There are also youtube lessons on cursive, but I have to be careful, US cursive and British have some differences!

And no one will be surprised to learn I am now checking out fountain pen listings on TM. My Dad always used a fou tain pen, he was a lefty too. But he was 'schooled' (somewhat harshly too) at Heriots in Edinburgh to use his right hand, so became ambidextrous. Skillfully so too, we could never tell which hand he used. His writing was beautiful.

And the plumber called. I get a new tap tomorrow. I look forward to that little gift!

RE: You can never have enough... - Olive - 15-01-2025

Hunni, I have a lovely Mont Blanc fountain pen that I inherited from my late husband.   I don't use it as my handwriting is appalling.   If you would find a use for it I'll gladly send it to you - let know your postal address by PM and it's yours.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 15-01-2025

Oh Olive, that is such a generous thought...

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 16-01-2025

morning ladies Smile Foggy again but not a bit like yesterday. It has almost cleared already.

What a lovely offer, Olive Heart

Today the lavatera is having a 'trim'. It has almost finished flowering, and the bossy tart is higher than the fence. MrK will use some of the roughage to start the fresh compost bin off. I also have the petunia 'Matariki' to pot up today. It's gorgeous with its dark center and light greyish petals. By the time that is done, I will be as well lol.

Still picking away at the embroidery. My satin stitch certainly needs some work.

Happy crafting Smile
