RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 16-01-2025

Good morning.

It's raining ... last evening's garden watering worked,  lol! Nice for my newly planted seedlings.

My last home was just down the road from Tirau, a vibrant little town lucky to be on the tourist route and making the most of it.

A bit of sewing (pants alteration) planned today and need to decide on some handcraft projects ... good books always fill in though.

Had better move and get to the supermarket, I like to go earlyish.

Enjoy the day all.

Snap Mica! Herself got her spot on treatment this week too, just in case. It might have been a stray ant but that bout of scritching made me check the calendar, and sure enough... Nothing worse than discovering one of those beasties on my sheet!

I am really enjoying these cooler mornings, I get so much more done if it isn't sticky. Inside and out.

Good morning everyone

I've never seen a flea on Madam.. Im guessing cos she doesn't go outside. But I do check her.

Had a nice time at painting yesterday. Dianne brought the two grandies in so they kept everyone happy.

Im absolutely wrapped for her, the hospital rang with a free appointment today. Which co-insides with 2 that her sister had today so they are off together to get all the appointments done.

Little bit of shopping for me this morning. Then I think Ill have a day off and paint. I started the next blue and white flowers one for David. But was disappointed to see its only 30 by 30 cm's. I dont expect it to be very good. but cos its squares its worth doing to see. Squares make a far better picture. They supplied me with double of one colour which messed me up for a while. Until I realized their mistake.

Have a wonderful day everyone

I also prefer to be working outside early to beat the heat. The lavatera has had its 'trim' and will have another towards the end of summer. And a shrub I thought had been cut out was sprouting again so gave that a hard cut back as well. The petunia has been planted and looks good in its tub. I've cleared the lawn of doggy doo (do that every day anyway), the wheelie bins have been moved and the leaves from the cabbage tree picked up. All good to go for the lawnmower guy.

Time to put the kettle on.

The plumber tells me the old style kitchen tap is posing problems for him, a replacement simply doesn't exist so he is going to jerry rig a solution to block existing fittings and redo all the pipework to a new mixer with lever action fitted at the side of the sink. Oh well, whatever works I think to myself. But to do that the undersink cupboard needs emptying.

Oh dear..

Still, once every twelve years isn't THAT bad is it? And it does give me a chance to clean the embarassingly grotty mess while he is off finding the bits he needs.

Oh! THAT'S where the pack of zip ties went. Amazing what I am finding in those dank depths, lol...

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 16-01-2025

Okay, about that tap business... I am sure I will get used to this arrangement. Eventually!

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 17-01-2025

morning ladies Smile Rain please! The rain clouds came over, dropped a few drops and disappeared over to Tauranga. The hose is back on the garden today.

You'll get used to the new setup, OHH Smile It might feel a tad weird for a while though.

Not a lot happening here today, housework needs doing and I need to start weeding out along the roadside so will add that to the week's to-do list. Some ideas for that garden are being mulled over. MrK has asked me to plant some salvias near the beans to help with pollination. There are so many bees, and they just love the blue salvias.

I have a little bit of unpicking to do with my embroidery, not happy with the bird's eye. You would think a circle would be simple enough to stitch.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 17-01-2025

Good morning.

Cloudy but very warm after a wet day yesterday.  Our sandy soil needed the rain, good for my newly planted seedlings including salvias that I spied while at Bunnings on the weekend.

Will get to my sewing machine today (didn't yesterday) and a haircut later. I have weeds to take care of and I see there is rhubarb ready.

Good to have the plumbing sorted OHH ... the lever taps are a much easier option.

Enjoy the day all.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 17-01-2025

Morning everyone

Had the clouds but no rain.

I have a swinging tap similar Hunni. Mine is in between the two sinks. I have a large square then a smaller rectangle. Which is really handy for throwing washed cutlery in lol.

Wasn't flash yesterday. But got through.

Off to the home today. Dianne when to see about her keloid scars from her breast cancer surgery. They gave her steroid shots, not the mixed with a local. The Dr told her she was tougher than many men who had had them. so a gentle hug and ear for her. We are good at supporting each other.

Have done half the blue and white flower picture. I dont think it will be very good, its too small for my liking. But we will see how it ends up.
Have to ask Dianne if she is doing one for Mum and if not what her fave flowers are. And Ill do one.

Have a fab day everyone

Oh Please can we have some rain.   Last night was our designated sprinkler day, I hooked up the rose bed sprinkler and turned it on, checked that all the nozzles were working and went away for 45 minutes.  When I went back to turn it off I found that the connector had come apart and water had been pouring out of the tap into the end of the bed.  So I have unwatered roses and a sodden viburnum and will need to do some hand-watering today, which will take hours.

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 17-01-2025

Feeling ever so virtuous having finished illustrationd yesterday (& sent them off in hope) & done a bit of weeding this morning so tomatoes & beans along back fence look a bit better & was able to get broad bean pods for seed next year from the hardy plant which somehow survived the winter & produced beans again this summer.

That sentry bird is starting to annoy me considerably; the annoying creature can go for hours apparently & even keeps it up sometimes after I've brought Madame Le Cat inside. Mind you, on at least one occasion, I discovered it was because she was at the window swearing at the sentry bird...

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 17-01-2025

ohhh buggar, Olive, what a PITA that hand watering will be. Thank goodness we are on a bore so no water restrictions for us. But we are very conscious of how much water we use. We are waiting for a quote from our plumber to have a plug thingy fitted for a fire hose to hook into our tank. It's a just-in-case thing. We're the only one on the road with a bore so if there was a fire, it would be our tank that would be used by the fire brigade.

Blimmen sentry birds, Lilith lol. I bet it's a blackbird.

Jan, I saw your question about Kuaka. Yes, she is on my FB page and is doing well. Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 17-01-2025

You need a water pistol, not for the cat, for the sentry bird, lol!

Hose fittings are annoying things. No matter how carefully I connect everything it is only a matter of time till one or other pops and it is always when I am miles away and have to return to stop the cataract and redo the blasted things. What is worse though, is I went to great lengths to sort out a movable wind up cart based watering system that works for me, but doesn't limit the tap use for any other resident - we had hose wars for months - and now the sneaky toads use my set up without returning the settings or unscrewing the hose connector off the taps. And whoever is doing it has much better grip strength than I have! Grrrrrr...

Oh the tiny domestic dramas that make living in a pensioner village so interesting!  Rolleyes

Yes it IS a blardy blackbird, the little toad! Whenever herself ventures out, there it is, squawking at top volume.

Althoughon the plus side, Madame Le Cat is quite keen to come in more often...

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 17-01-2025

Our blackbirds are friends. The mynahs on the other hand are pains in the arses.

RE: You can never have enough... - harm_less - 17-01-2025

Blackbirds are helping themselves to our plums at present but plenty to spare so not too worried. The rosellas are what really piss me off. They nail any fruit that is starting to colour up, hassle the tuis and are quick to learn to make them selves scarce if I've got the air rifle out. Slowly picking them off but it's getting harder and harder to sneak up on them.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 17-01-2025

I love our blackbird, we have had a mating pair here for years. And yep, they certainly let me know when I'm not wanted or when the bird bath needs refilling. We have mynahs as well, boy they are messy. And bloody plovers, they are a PITA as well. The pukekoes are squawking again so I'm wondering if they are having another brood of babies.

The rosellas are very pretty but I agree with you, harm_less, they eat any fruit and decimate our apple and plum trees.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 17-01-2025

Ha! You murderers. I - being the bird lover I am - am delighted to share my peaches with our Rosellas. But, if they came close enough for me to grab one I wouldn't hesitate to grab a few of those incredible feathers...

I think they see the glint in my eye though.
