RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 25-01-2025 morning ladies ![]() Yummmmmm OHH, that bread sounds divine. We don't eat a lot of bread, so I buy vogels. Might as well buy the good stuff ![]() Same old, same old, for the rest home then Popeye. Sounds like nothing will change until management leaves. Have you tried the senior citizen commissioner? They need to know what's going on so they can deal with stuff like this. If they aren't used, then we could lose them. A bit more weeding this morning. The convolvulus grows so quickly and tangles everything. Can't believe it's been a week and it's back growing and smothering plants. If I have enough oomph I'm going to move some phlox to the roadside. There are enough plants to divide in the garden to fill the roadside garden so it will cost nothing but effort. My favourite kind of gardening. My embroidery has been thrown into the naughty corner. There was something about it I wasn't happy with. Can't quite put my finger on it but it won't be back until I've thought about it a bit more. Happy crafting ![]() RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 25-01-2025 Morning everyone Fine here at the mo. Id really love it to absolutely hose down. We need it too. I suggested to Dianne last night that the Manager should get the Compass boss and dietician in so they can hear the complaints. The Manager certainly wont take any responsibility for anything. and David will be the best one to tell her that's what we want. Yep use the male to get things done works sometimes. But we will talk it out first with the other ladies before we suggest it to him lol. Im going to try and finish the sewing room today. Had a week off, but ready to finish it and then vacc the whole house again. Norty corners are handy for a break I find. I sort of do the same thing when doing my games. If I cant get one out Ill leave it and try again later. Which I did yesterday. and I got it out last night. Have a fab day all RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 25-01-2025 Morning all Fine cloudy Time out good idea KM life too short to put alot ofcwork into something we don't really like Sounds like you are on to it Popeye Lol KM sounds like your gardening equivalent to my sewing keeping me sane Finished but housework now being feline. Feline has finally figured the exit works as an entrance into our little section as well. Bit of Feliway spray may have helped. Will drop k9 off to DD when he returns with DH from their walk. DD looking after him overnight while we attend wedding. Enjoy your day RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 25-01-2025 It is a few women with authority who seem to have this unacknowledged misogyny, maybe their position lets them look down upon their sisters, I don't know. It is a very unattractive quality though... I need your thoughts on another local thing. One of our oldies has serious mental health issues and refuses both the suggestion of rest home care, or to let paid carers maintain regular visits. She has emptied her unit, doesn't make meals, or look after herself and is slowly fading away. We worry about her. Efforts to get the management involved have been unsuccessful over the years until recently when a few of us got a bit definite. This week I found out they have disconnected her stove because she cannot be trusted and they are worried about fires. Property law says a rental property must have cooking facilities, the ability to boil and bake, and suggests an oven and cooktop. This tenant has a brand new toaster and a microwave - which she doesn't know how to use, in her kitchen, I think provided by management - who are also now, following our fuss - providing basic groceries and physically checking on her every couple of days, which is a really good thing and we are grateful. But the fact is she should be in fulltime care for her own safety, health, and well being - and for ours - but everything possible it seems is being done to avoid getting that done, by those with the power and the responsibility (if that actually exists)... Should we keep pushing or should we shut up and let nature take its course? RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 25-01-2025 Good morning. Very warm and windy. Hoping for the promised rain. It's a hard one OHH. I agree she needs to be in care. Sadly, if she is unable to make the right decisions then 'others' need to step in. It's a sad reality that in most situations like this, nothing much is done until it has to be ... eg a dangerous situation like a fire or a health mishap such as a broken bone after a fall. Is there no family that can help with decision making for her? Great day with the DH family yesterday even if we travelled on one of the worst days possible ... the road was chokka and we have never encountered so many trucks on the road. The Waikato sure could do with some moisture on the land! We're reminded that our lives no longer revolve around the weather ... a good place to be. No plan today ... I'm tempted by an online yarn supplier advertising a sale over the next few days ... will ponder a bit longer. Enjoy the day all. RE: You can never have enough... - Olive - 25-01-2025 That's an awful situation Hunni. If there is no family to intervene then I suspect she has to be allowed to stay there until she dies. She has to live somewhere. Sounds as if she would be eligible for a residential care facility or a dementia facility, but there would have to be a needs assessment and a financial assessment, and Te Whatu Ora would need to step in. I don't think the property management bears any responsibility other than ensuring the safety of her present flat. Here's a link to some information: https://info.health.nz/services-support/support-services/older-people/residential-care#admission-agreement-6311. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 25-01-2025 She has been assessed. She gets two lots of carers a day, one at midday the other in the evening.. But it isn't enough. Part of the problem is the lack of beds in facilities designed for this type of care - there is a hell of a waiting list, and the lack of genuinely caring staff working as carers in that sector. Their pay is awful, the conditions terrible, and their jobs unenviable. And she is so vulnerable, in so many ways. But what a way to live out your nineties. Makes me hope for a nice quick terminal condition that leaves my mind intact and my body able to tidy up after me! RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 25-01-2025 Her doctor could push to have her put into care. Our neighbour many moons ago was being hit by her husband with dementia and her doctor arranged it all. So, he was the one who was 'blamed' by her husband. No gardening for me today, the heart just wouldn't let me. I suspect I overdid it yesterday...ooops. My sister called in early this morning, most unusual for her as she isn't even out of bed then lol. She has a new puppy, a german short haired point x labrador. OMG what a gorgeous dog. The Furry One was not impressed with this young upstart and put her in her place a few times. My nephew saw her advertised and organised for my sister to visit... you've been so sad, mum, you need a new dog...no pressure though mum... you don't have to take her... yeah right lol. It was love at first sight. We won't be dog sitting her as my nephew has fallen for her big time as well lol. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 25-01-2025 I had a gsp a long time ago, or rather we did. It was the wimpiest dog we ever gave a home to, really hated water, and when we were swimming at Taupo he would run up and down the water line whining and barking. Gorgeous looking animal, but not a working dog. He went on to a non hunting family and lived the life of Riley, but never got his feet wet, lol. The doc thing was why I pushed my neighbour into taking her to their shared GP, but the doctor is reluctant to act it seems. I guess we will just have to watch and wait. But at least we tried... The weather is changing, so I planted lettuces, did the week's laundry, and pulled out some mohair leftovers and the needles. Knitting soothes and as I am using huge needles this snood style scarf is progressing fast - and I am reducing the stash. Double brownie points! RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 25-01-2025 Its a Hard one Hunni If she ends up in hospital they will assess her again. and if you can somehow give them info as well they will have her put into a home. Its for her own safety. Keep a diary of anything odd that she does too. Saves storing it in your head. It was the Hospital but with my requests that MrP was put into a home. I have FINISHED the sewing room. Well I haven't vacuumed. Ill do that tomorrow. It still looks really full but once Ive taken a couple of banana boxes to the oppy, probably Tuesday cos they are closed on Monday of course. And I have a bag of rubbish I need to put out next week. And Ill move the emptied crates into the other room with the others in there it will look better. Carmel, a new lady at the home with dementia, is a lovely sweet woman like Bobbie, was sitting with us yesterday as we talked about the food. She was amazed when we told her of what we all took in. I mentioned the cheese scones and her face Lit up and replied with Plum Jam of course. I said No I had strawberry at the time. Anyway I've just text David and asked if he would care to share his Plums Ill make jam for the ladies, and to have with the scones, on Friday.. And Im happy to make some for him if he finds he cant keep up with work and all the fruit he is going to have. I still remember my first jam I made at home. It was peach jam and I also made jelly from the stones and skins. When we made it at school Im afraid I told the teacher if she attempted to jar my friends and my jam, it would break the jar. She took the jar out of the oven then started talking. I said the jar will be too cold now and break.. Ohh Nooo it will be fine she said... Yes it broke. She went red in the face... That was the end of our guaranteed to set Blackberry and apple jam. She didn't like me much after that lol. Nearly half way on the iris window. Getting to the pretty blues etc now. My friend in Taranaki is doing the same one and we both started in the same place. Bottom right corner and we work across and up as we go. That way your hand doesn't get stuck on the sticky picture as you do it lol Its just started raining lightly. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 25-01-2025 Plum jam is my favourite, with black doris plums... And yes popryr, it was hospital orders with my mum too, much to my horror. But probably best in thr long run. RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 25-01-2025 (25-01-2025, 05:51 PM)Oh_hunnihunni Wrote: Plum jam is my favourite, with black doris plums... Is she social at all Hunni.. Maybe if anyone could find out who her dr is a letter can be sent to the Dr. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 25-01-2025 We know who the doc is, no go in that direction. Yet. But we'll see... RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 26-01-2025 morning ladies ![]() The Furry One hates water; he won't even dash under the hose when he wants to get from A to B and the sprinkler is in the way. The Young Upstart has a lot to learn as all pups do. But she is so willing and knows to sit, come and the other basic commands already. And I think she will be good for my sister and force her to be more active. Housework for me today, might as well make the most of the wet day and do the inside stuff. I've started working on a cloth for the bedside table in the spare room. The sun streams in that end of the house and the bedside furniture in two rooms are being bleached. It's a crewel design but I'll be using regular floss as I don't have any fabric heavy enough for crewel wool. I'm just tacking the design at the moment. Happy crafting ![]() RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 26-01-2025 Morning all Fine at moment cloudy rained overnight no wind going to be a hot day Always good to have aproject on the go KM. Sad OHH when people don't get the care they need hardynifnthey are resistant to change. We identified that my MIL needed care, forgetting she had stuff on stove not eating well her Dr did didly squat even when DH contacted him. Took a fall and laying outside for16 hours for trip to hospital and an assessment that she couldn't safely live alone. Touring care homes with DSIL was and eye opener some places your would leave a pet Wedding was nice lovely couple. Home today feline enjoying the absence of the k9 currently on the roof seems she can leap 2m onto trellis fence and them little hop up there but a .9m window sill is to high ![]() Will continue with my wee cross body purse the vinyl so far has been easy to manage Enjoy your day RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 26-01-2025 Morning everyone Lots of lovely rain. Its not cold either. Thankfully I can have the front door open and not get wet. Ill vacuum today. But waiting for pain meds to kick in.. Who knew that losing weight off your Butt could hurt so much lol.. Its tender if I sit too long but it gets sore overnight for some reason. Its so hard when everyone around a person knows they cannot cope out in the world but the person thinks they are ok. We saw Tony another long term resident on Friday. He's a true English Gentleman. He lost his right leg before we met him and a while ago we were talking to him. He was having soo much pain with his left leg, the drs were hoping to be able to fix it to hopefully stop the pain too or it would have to come off as well. We said do you really need it. He cannot stand now anyway. Nothing would change that, and if they took it off he would at least be free of the pain. He appreciated our chat, and its gone. We didn't get to talk to him but he was back and looking brighter without so much pain. Right Ill do my games and then the floor... Id also like to take my curtains down from the ranch slider and redo the seam across the top, which I did to extend the length. One is pulling apart. so Ill do both and overlock and resew. They were a rush job nearly 6 years ago . They might wait till tomorrow but Ill see. Have a wonderful inside day everyone RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 26-01-2025 It was a wild night here last night - being on the ridge between two harbours we can catch it or lose it when weather gets interesting, and last night it didn't blow out to sea. We got gales, rain, thunder and lightning and I might need a catch up nana nap this afternoon. Lots of leaves down in the park, but no real damage that I can see. Silver skies, so maybe there's more to come... RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 26-01-2025 We have blustery winds and we have been watching the neighbour's tree that shades our compost and worm farm area. There are three big branches going nuts in the wind. Next week it will be a year since the tree hit the house, so we are very conscious of big trees. Watching it makes me very glad also that we have taken out our big, skinny, wobbly tree. It stopped raining early on this morning, but the rain is back now,and the temperature has dropped ![]() Housework is done, takes me a bit longer to do now but that's OK. I've been tacking the design onto fabric while having a cuppa and have decided I need a pincushion with steel wool inside it to help keep my needles clean. The gum from this washaway stuff is awful for clogging needles even though it advertises it 'won't gum your needles'. I call bulls*** on that! I'll make a start on the pincushion later while waiting for the fabric to dry. |
