RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 03-02-2025 I am a bit wary of black dye. I spent too much money on a pair of glorious very high heeled black goatskin pumps for a particularly challenging formal occasion decades ago. They carried me through the day beautifully and I enjoyed wearing them just that once, but when it was over and I took them off, my feet were black with the dye, and stayed that way for days despite the scrubbing, lol. Mind you, my heels have never been so well pumiced... The beauty of time passing is the memory makes me laugh! RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 03-02-2025 I agree with Olive, I never buy the ready grated nutmeg, always whole to grate as needed. So much nicer and the smell... divine! Just watch your fingers on the grater lol. Tomatoes and cabbages dispatched to neighbours and MrK is freezing another lot of beans. We are so fortunate to be able to grow our own veg. RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 03-02-2025 Thank you everyone We told him to go to Binn Inn so should be able to get whole Nutmeg there too. Mum has gone to hospital. She was so confused, Hot, wouldn't eat, telling us her son has hurt his legs etc. The Home wont make the decision to send her, the family had to do that. They finally got a urine sample today, Its only been since Wednesday Last week that we told them she probably had an infection. And I noticed one of her toes was purple, swollen and looked narly so we made sure the ambos knew too. Dianne was getting frustrated with mums confused state. I know how she was feeling cos I was the same. So I tried to keep her calm and tell her its wasn't mum it was the infection. So Its been a long one. But I feel honoured to be a part of the family and as much of the discussion as they were.. RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 03-02-2025 Quick update. Drs think its all related to her breathing.. but they are running a battery of tests. Dianne will go up with her Sister tomorrow to see mum and for the sister to have her appointment too. Dianne thanked me for keeping her Calm and being a slight diversion against mums confusion. One thing that we did see today was the Fly over of the 3 Hercules.. their Last Hoorah.. The flew in formation at only 350 feet / 100meters ish. Last time I saw planes like that I had a panic attack, but I coped today. They arrived the same year I did lol 60 years ago. They have earnt their retirement. RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 04-02-2025 morning ladies ![]() I'm sorry to hear about your friend, popeye and hope she recovers quickly. Not a lot happening today, I had a rough afternoon yesterday so will take it quietly today. MrK's thingy-me-bobs that raise the sofa arrived and make a huge difference for him. He looks like he's sitting on a throne lol. My 'invitation' letter to have my boobs squished arrived yesterday as well so will make the appointment. Happy crafting ![]() RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 04-02-2025 Morning everyone I'm missing the chair lifters Kiwimade. So my hamstrings have to get used to moving a bit more. I need one more, but since they were here for MrP it would be a tad cheeky to ask for another.. I could try and make something to match tho. but the chairs are linked with a center consul so not sure how they would work. I too am a broken mess, bone wise this morning. I think I slept too well lol.. Its overcast so I dont think with the combination of both the back lawn may be waiting. A friends father is having a heart event this morning. They need to get his rhythm back to normal. I cant understand why they have left it so long. I think hes been in hospital at least a week. My friend is well shit scared. I said he's in the right place, they have everything there incase something goes wrong. So I'm on the end of the phone all day. Yesterday we noticed that the oxygen hose for mum was Hooked under and around the wheel of her chair. With it under the wheel. God knows how long it had been like that. But this clever cookie thought to take photos before we got the nurses to come and get it out. Dis sister is Very up with human rights laws etc. Ill send her the photo's when I have topped my phone up. Have a fab day everyone RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 04-02-2025 The birds have discovered the peaches, and are making dawn raids - there were six on the path this morning each with a fresh nibble, so those are now on the bench waiting for me to get organised to poach them. There are so many this year I don't really mind sharing and it does let me and the Tatty cat get a close up view of beautiful thrushes, tiny green finches and the odd wild coloured rosella. And they get a lose up view of me too, cheeky beasts, they are not scared of me till I am within arms length! That'll teach me to give them fruit during the hardest weeks of winter... Being so close to the wild world gives me such joy. RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 04-02-2025 Morning all Bright overcast start to the day. Take it easy KM Started quilting it will take a while as I am doing each block individually rather than the faster to do all over motif. Joining friends for lunch today we meet once a month our way to stay connected. Not sure what I will eat as they have chosen a cafe that I have been glutened in before . Will need to be vigilant. The wool I ordered from Skeinz arrived yesterday so more bootie knitting can knit a pair each night while sitting in front tv. Enjoy your day RE: You can never have enough... - Olive - 04-02-2025 I do sympathise Mica. I avoid gluten, and find it pretty well impossible to eat in cafés these days. I used to feel safe enough with "Eggs Benedict, no muffin" or "Caesar Salad, no croutons" but now most places buy their sauces in from Gilmours and other monoliths; they have no idea what is in them and I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole because they are so highly processed. Are you a meat eater? Steak and chips is usually safe enough. Or eggs and chips. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 04-02-2025 My favourite local cafe does its meals that usually have a bread component with slices of gluten free bread. I find that bread a bit dense, but I am assured by my restricted diet friend that once heaped with scrambled eggs it is fine... Not hard for cafe owners to find that bread option today, and it is increasingly asked for. RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 04-02-2025 I am a carnivore ![]() Chips often dodgy as the frier usually used for glutenous stuff, not always simple exchanging for gf bread if they use utensils used to cook or handle glutinous stuff. Crumbs set me off ![]() Luckily there are local cafes that have gf deep friers, or are gf savy. Giot o watch ice cream too many catering brands contain wheat thickeners. Eating out can be risky luckily these lunch meet ups aren't about the food but catching up with the people. RE: You can never have enough... - Olive - 04-02-2025 I'm highly carnivorous! Hunni, the problem with gluten-free bread or most other gluten-free "products" is that they invariably contain thickeners and emulsifiers such as xanthan gum and guar gum, which are not healthy either. Having with great difficulty weaned myself off bread I just avoid it altogether rather than taking risks with ultra-processed junk. It is perfectly easy to eat a varied and delicious gluten-free life apart from the eating out factor. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 04-02-2025 I guess it is a bit like those who maintain a kosher diet, or go strictly vegan. Most establishments cannot afford separate cooking and prep spaces for the different requirements so 'you pays your money and takes the risk' . Closest I come to that is a strong aversion to anything with coconut. The number of times I have been tempted into a delectable treat dowsed in white chocolate or even a glorious spiced curry mix only to have to abandon plate after the first taste or sniff... I am blessed that that aversion is an adopted one, and certainly not life threatening. Pass the sourdough, lol... RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 04-02-2025 Sounds like your friend's father has something similar to me. As I type you can see my heart thumping in my chest, it's been like this off and on all day. It feels like it's 'racing' and at it's worse, leaves me breathless. The sooner this ablation happens the better! It's so good to see and hear Tom McCrae from the old TV3 Newshub read the Aljazeera news ![]() We're having roast duck for dinner. A friend was given a frozen duck, and she doesn't like duck, so it has been passed onto us. It smells divine and MrK is planning on saving the fat for roast spuds. We don't often have roast veg so that will be a real treat. RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 04-02-2025 An update on mum. She has pneumonia and Sepsis. Amazing just what we said. The Dr wasn't sure through the night if she would make it. The fact she is still with us is a good sign. But what none of us had thought about yesterday was that Thursday (when the Homes normal dr was meant to come) is a public holiday, so she wouldn't be turning up. Chances are Mum would have died from this lot if we had waited. Her oxygen levels are up and down and is having small fits or jerking, but talking at times too. David went in and told Colleen and Annie that she was in hospital and being monitored. I might go in tomorrow , early to see the two ladies and see if they want me to take painting. My brother chose to go gluten free. he says he feels much better for it. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 04-02-2025 (04-02-2025, 03:38 PM)kiwimade64 Wrote: Sounds like your friend's father has something similar to me. The sooner this ablation happens the better! Love duck. Almost as much as pheasant, but duck is more easily found at my local New World. Special occasion dinner, and it merits a properly set table, linens and all... RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 05-02-2025 morning ladies ![]() lol OHH, funny you should say that, we used our silverware and nicer plates. There is plenty of duck left over for dinner tonight as well. It has been a year this week since the tree fell and hit the house. Am so glad it was last year as neither of us could move it if it had happened this year. This morning, I have a bit of weeding to finish along the roadside and then over the next few days or so will tackle the main road. Better dig out my high viz jacket first. Still puttering along with my embroidery piece. MrK has suggested mahogany for the box it will be part of. Such a lovely, dark timber will show of the colours beautifully. Happy crafting ![]() RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 05-02-2025 Morning everyone Overcast again but still no rain. I LOVE Duck. I would have used the good stuff too.. I Have yet to try pheasant. Another thing I dont have in common with my mother. She hated game meat where I love it. It was MrP's first wife that introduced me to wild work. OMG I loved it. Goose stinks to high heaven when cooking but its yummy. My mother had no idea on how to cook the venison we were given. But I love that too. In saying that she wasn't a very good cook anyway. We never starved but she just wasn't very enthused with food. Thank goodness she married my stepfather, that was a good move lol I remember when my sister was still living at home, she decided to cook spaghetti and meatballs.. mums reply to that was Foreign Muck lol.. Probably the only nearly foreign thing she cooked was curried sausages and I wouldnt say that was foreign lol. We are planning a road trip to see Mum. David asked Colleen if she would like to go, so hopefully she will. Between us we will get her into a vehicle. Finished my Old lady and Cat last night.. I will do pictures eventually.. Have chosen my Tulips ina Vase one to do next. Its such pretty colours. Have a fab day all RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 05-02-2025 Morning all Beautiful sunny day Duck dinner sounds yummy. Been a long time since we have dined on that. Vege co-op started up again got our first lot yesterday onlybget it every 2 weeks as it takes us that long to use 7p the veges, pears and oranges the fruit this time pears like rocks so will have to wait for them to ripen. The pear tree outside our living space has fruit waiting for them to ripen as well encouraging people who walk by to help themselves More quilting going to take a while this one as I am being very good only doing 45 min spells with 30 min rest in between So far so good. Listening to Sam Neils book Did I ever tell you this? while I quilt happily away Enjoy your day RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 05-02-2025 I hope you get to try it popeye, but if someone offers you swan, politely decline. So much effort for no reward, that bird! Much nicer sailing around on a pretty pond than hanging from the back porch ready for plucking, trust me on that! I miss the wild meats, but not the preparation of them, though I am glad I got the opportunity to learn so much. I appreciate the meat so much more knowing the creature that provided it, and the work that went into it. Those were very good years. |
