RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 12-02-2025 Popeye, you have reminded me of a bedroom I had - white shag pile carpet, (it was the 70s!) full length white sunblock curtains, black and white patterned wallpaper, and a red bedspread, one of those chenille ones - the name escapes me for the moment. There was a peach tree outside that corner window, a black boy. That was a good house, I enjoyed living there, but it was one of those 'interesting' times in my life. No wonder I had mentally filed it away, lol... Candlewick! RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 12-02-2025 I would think the watermelon is OK for the birds, Jan. It's mostly water and sugars anyway. Lucky birds at your home! Ours have to fend for themselves until winter. We do have fresh water out every day for them. RE: You can never have enough... - zqwerty - 12-02-2025 Your dog might like a slice of water melon as well, just get the seeds out with a tea spoon or cut them all out. RE: You can never have enough... - Jan - 12-02-2025 (12-02-2025, 02:26 PM)zqwerty Wrote: Your dog might like a slice of water melon as well, just get the seeds out with a tea spoon or cut them all out. You are bang on zwerty my little old staffi used to love melon especially the honey dew when we lived in Oz - if the parakeets missed any walnuts on our huge walnut tree he used to love cracking them and getting the nut out - that strong jaw certainly was useful Kiwimade I was deep diving in the spoiled produce heading for the lucky local pigs -under the new grocery regulations produce can not be sold through the local system - instead all the produce has to be trucked to the Auckland market - off loaded - auctioned - then loaded on another truck and brought back - huge amount of damaged fruit - RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 12-02-2025 Just had to rescue the Tabby off our neighbor's roof ![]() got some quick snaps of the I Spy bead quilt not the best but better than nothing https://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/2187125111.jpg RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 12-02-2025 I raised my two piglets on reject produce from the Foodtown in Taupo. We had a rubbish bin we dropped off in the morning and took home after work in the evening. Best fed pigs in Taupo. And they tasted great. RE: You can never have enough... - Jan - 12-02-2025 I am dog sitting at the beach again - beautiful sight over the sea - no streetlights make such a difference https://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/2187154570.jpg RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 13-02-2025 morning ladies ![]() Gorgeous, Love the quilt, mica ![]() Beautiful pic, Jan. A perfect evening for walking the dog. It's so hot during the day and I see people out walking dogs. How would they like to walk on the concrete/tar seal in bare feet? I never thought of offering the Furry One watermelon. Might try him today with a small bit. Our labby loved carrots, mind you, she would eat anything and everything lol The neighbour's cat strolled over last evening, luckily the Furry One was under the air con and didn't care by then. But goodness me, that cat is taking a risk coming here. We've noticed the reduction in the Furry Fiends so between the dog and cat, they are slowly being dispatched. Our son phoned last evening concerned about the car ding I had and to say he is off to Japan for a holiday in the spring. He's going with his best mate, and they are planning a 'guys holiday'. And he may come home via Auckland so we may get to see him. ![]() Happy crafting ![]() RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 13-02-2025 Good morning. It's overcast but expect another sunny day. The quilt is lovely Mica ... a lot of work involved! Lol, your feline brings back memories of our boy (when he was young) a huge climber where he shouldn't go! One memory is up the tallest tree on the farm ... a poplar ... I was that close to contacting the Fire Brigade for rescue but he came down after a day up there plantively howling! Great pic Jan, isn't it dark without street lights (when there's no full moon)! Off for school duty now. Enjoy the day all. RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 13-02-2025 Morning all Sunny day Great photo Jan Yes KM I do the quilting I like making patterns with thread My morning at the warehouse then food gathering at supermarket after lunch. Did start another cot quilt yesterday will get back to that tomorrow Enjoy your day RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 13-02-2025 Morning everyone Had a beautiful big moon last night No clouds here. Its cooler this morning. Yay back to 58 kilos off woohoo. Love the photo Jan. and Mica the quilt is Beautiful. Groceries today for me.. not alot but need my pills too. Mum is back again.. Yay. Had a bright idea yesterday.. Ill be making heart shaped waffles tomorrow with jam and cream... Then I had a bright idea about getting us all a flower for Valentines.. Ouch, not that I have ever brought flowers before, but $8 for a rose? or $3 for a sunflower.. Jeepers... I had no idea of what they would cost. so have begged the bloke to whom money is no object to see if he can be onboard too. I dont expect mates rates from my friends who own the Business and would never ask. Nearly half way on the sunflowers picture.. Much easier doing the dark colours during the day. Have a wonderful day everyone. RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 13-02-2025 Came home from town to find our lawn being mowed ![]() RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 13-02-2025 (13-02-2025, 09:12 AM)kiwimade64 Wrote: Came home from town to find our lawn being mowed I said to David yesterday, I Don't like Having to mow my lawn, But I enjoy actually doing it lol RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 13-02-2025 Gorgeous gorgeous quilt, like jewels in the snow. Made my fingers itch to stroke. There is just something wonderful about a well stitched quilt, they are one of the very best things about Winter! I have added to the boot collection with a pair of blue low cut ankle boots, and am very surprised to find I can put both on with no problem, and do both up even on the fat foot with the fused ankle. They have zips on both sides and I had thought I would need to have that one gusseted to stretch, but no, they fit! Which is a cause for celebration, lol... They are pretty too and are low enough to show off my mad hand knitted sock collection, come Winter. Such fun! A very nice Valentine's present, so thank you Me! More peaches to poach today, that tree has done so well this year. I tell myself it is CoCo, who is sleeping among its roots, who is giving the tree her sweetness. She was such a lovely companion she deserved a special place to rest. RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 13-02-2025 Beautiflu quilt Mica, that really is lovely work. Those boots sound just the thing Hunni, a good score. These days I only mow the front lawn which only takes me about half an hour & someone else does the back which is the harder one. Have decided that Madame le Cat is very definitely not normal. Made myself a pesto sandwich yesterday & left it on bench while she was having her dinner. Went outside to do a couple of things, & when I came back there she was, slurping into the sandwich, having polished off her dinner first. I've never heard of any cat with a liking for pesto & it seems quite odd. RE: You can never have enough... - Jan - 13-02-2025 Yes Roma it is really dark out there at the beach on a cloudy night - but the sea still simmers and it is stunning - there are lots of outside lights I can turn on and the neighbours are close so I am never nervous out there - but I know for sure I wouldn’t rely on the resident staffi to act as a guard dog - she would greet an intruder with a very effusive welcome The quilt is beautiful - I tried quilting once wasn’t very successful cutting straight was never my strong point - thinking back the biggest craft fail I had was a weekend at Tīrau making a polymer doll - I had made lots of cloth dolls but thought I would give polymer a go - what a disaster it was supposed to be modelled on my 2 year old grandaughter - it ended up looking like an 80 year old with five fingers plus a thumb - will try and find a photo Kiwimade ask your son when he goes to Japan to pop into one of the shops selling silk thread - the colours are glorious like nothing I have ever seen - I went on a tour and many of us became tearful - it was just so beautiful especially the jewell colours and they were comparatively cheap .Japan is a stunning country to visit - my husband worked for a company partly Japanese owned so I went up several times - the only problem I had was being expected to bow to the male big cheese - didn’t do it ! Then you had to walk backwards out of the room you weren’t supposed to turn your back on him - buggar that ! But they were an amazing company every Xmas every child of every worker received a beautiful gift from the company - I receive half an hour a month home care from Access to have my shower dome cleaned - you need to be a giant to reach it - for the third time a young very fit very nicely spoken boy about 19 arrived - today I was chatting to him and asked why he was doing house cleaning - can’t read or write - has dyslexia and only went to school to play basketball - his father thought he was destined for the NBA in the US so he was just allowed to cruise - of course he has now found out he isn’t good enough for the NBA and doesn’t seem to have the motivation to learn to read - told him one of my granddaughters is dyslexic and has a law degree - will get some info together before he comes next time It’s Art Deco weekend already lots of people in our street - two doors done is one of the last community houses for mentally challenged - there are four adults they just love all the attention their house gets - it’s one of the best examples of art deco in the street - RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 14-02-2025 morning ladies ![]() That's a good idea, Jan. I will suss out where the best places to buy the silk thread are and see if it fits with our son's itinerary and ask him if he would mind buying some for me. Will put $$$ into his account for it. Silk thread is on my embroidery to-do list ![]() Housework for me this morning after I have watered the garden pots. The new lily that 'accidently fell' into our trolley at Mitre 10 the other week is growing like mad. Can't wait for it to flower. I have almost finished the embroidery piece for the box lid. Should finish it this afternoon or tomorrow. Once it has been laced onto the board, MrK will have his measurements for the box. Happy crafting ![]() RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 14-02-2025 Morning all Another sunny day The silk threads in Japan are lovely. Well all the sewing and knitting stuff is great Did somexsilk weaving while in Kyoto got totally over wealmed in fabric haberdashery shop our guide took me too. So much beautiful fabric. There is a fab district in Tokyo too. Taking DH shopping he needs new dressier shirts suitable for when we go out. He has some nice ones but they are too big now. He like shopping but finding it hard to get items that he won't wear that often - well he might if I have my way ![]() Very tiredcyesterday afternoon ended up having a Nana nap Will piece a few more blocks for cot quilt its semi planned I will evolve as I make progress. Enjoy your day RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 14-02-2025 Good morning everyone No rain here.. Had a text from Dianne yesterday. Mum is on Palliative care now.. We knew it would come but sooo not ready for it. so i had a miserable day, then Bloody David got me. He phoned and asked if I would like to go and see Mum he had been there and was quite concerned. so i pulled my head in and agreed. We went up, stole one of the gerberas he put in reception. Tania the best carer there was on another wing but we updated her. I sat there talking to her, cooling her down with a cool wet flannel, making sure she had fluid. She had her lucid moments. asking me to take her socks off that she didnt have on. And wanted apple. I told her Id see if the kitchen had She liked that we had stolen the flower lol It was an incase visit and Im glad we went up. Going up again today to support Dianne. I told David he is Good at this stuff.. he doesn't like compliment's, but I told him he had to accept that one. He drives us nuts at times, but at times like this he is there 110%. I couldn't afford to get flowers for all the gang today but have ordered the Best Sunflower for Mum. Ill pick that up and a hug or 3 when I pick it up. Have scrapped the waffles until another day. Wouldn't be the same without Mum there and she is in bed now. Was thinking about Napier's Art deco celebrations the other day. I've only been to Napier once and since I was driving and had no idea where I was, I didn't see any houses. I need to go back at some stage to see the homes etc. Had planned to ask David about it. His Mum and sister both live there. Dianne has a BBQ planned for tomorrow. Time will tell if it still goes ahead. I have absolutely no idea what to take. I do have the bottle of Sparking grape juice that came home in my handbag from the home Christmas party lol. Have a good day everyone RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 14-02-2025 An old friend from TM has been in touch to tell me she has terminal cancer. I will miss her posts on my farcebook page, but I am so glad to have known her and to have had those conversations over the years. I am reminded I would rather have cancer than dementia... |
