That happens here a lot too, my deck gets showered but the opposite door is hot and dry.

I think it is because the clouds are being driven to the coast and traveling too fast to join forces!

Boy, it's humid though.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 22-02-2025

morning ladies Smile It's cold this morning, another sign of seasonal change. I can live with the heat, but the humidity is just draining.

It's back to the trimming and convolvulus war in the garden. Madam Alfred needs tying back again, that rose is determined to grow. But it does look pretty next to Crepuscule. I think MrK plans to work on the espaliered camellias this morning. It's something he can do sitting on his walking frame Smile The pots need watering today as well.

My embroidery piece didn't quite turn out the way I wanted so I fringed the edge and turned it into a tray cloth for the small tray we use for our outdoor cuppas. Doesn't look too bad now and it's useful. I've started another one (same rose) on a bigger piece of fabric and it looks much better.

We watched Lockerbie on demand the other evening and boy, it is good. Colin Firth is great! And the third season of Reacher is on Prime and Neon now too.

Happy crafting Smile

Morning all
Not a cloud in the sky so a nippy start.

Cut out and started sewing totes yesterday but stopped at lunchtime.  Secretary for national support group was in town and hanging out vat a cafe while waiting for friend having surgery in nearby hospital. Four others turned up people I have not met before. Seems I volunteered to organize 6 monthly catch ups for local members of support group. Not a big ask.

Housework next then need to put decent dress on as off to lunch in city celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary  with a gaggle of friends.
Taking the train in so that I can enjoy a glass or two of bubbles Cool

Enjoy your day

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 22-02-2025

I caught up with Lockerbie too and spent a lot of it in tears. Watching other people in tragedy triggers me, but boy it was good and I look forward to the rest of it. Such strength, those involved in the real events deserve a really excellent portrayal.

Peaches are just about done, so I can start the serious prune of the tree and beneath it the mirabilis are in full flower as each evening comes on, the scent is wonderful, and those mad coloured flowers a delight. I am collecting the seed as it forms and tossing it into all the gardens so the perfume can reach many windows. It is one of the loveliest plants in my garden, I do wonder though where the white form plants disappeared to, maybe they were just lost among their stronger sisters. They were lovely though, real glow in the dark flowers.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 22-02-2025

Morning everyone

Its nice here at the mo temp wise. But I didn't need the fan last night.

His lordship finally brought Bobbies pictures and money around. I didn't let him inside. But once again he said things he didn't remember an hour later. Causing hurt to Dianne.

And the diamond paintings I did for Bobbie are stuffed. They are dirty and been moved so much there are pieces missing. and the border ribbons are a mess. I am cross, but I dont intend on making contact again.

And if I do go see Bobbie, I will giver her the ones I did for him.

Two books have arrived at the library so I will go pick those up. Then Im off to Pukekohe to get some sausages and more of Missy's treat bikkies.

Dianne showed me these cute little ice packs yesterday. They fit in your handbag to keep your drinks cold. Size wise not too big, sort of fits in the palm of your hand. 4 for $4 is a good price too. So that will get rid of my change. At Mitre10.

Have a nice day everyone

RE: You can never have enough... - Jan - 22-02-2025

Mica - congratulations on your 50th anniversary - no doubt you will share many stories with your friends - the highlights and the hilarious happenings over the 50 years

Popeye the ladies at the rest home will really miss you and no doubt you will miss being so involved - one thing I bet management don’t keep up your good work

All the bad press the Destiny church is deservedly getting - they do amazing work here in the prison and when young men are released - Robie has hired 3 young men who have been through the man up program and there is a list of businesses offering employment to prisoners who have been through the program - yesterday my brother completed 25 one bedroom units built by the church for released prisoners - they cost 90k each to build which included a gym and basketball court - the rules are strict and only those who have done the work before they are released will be given a unit - Tamaki is a lunatic and a thug but there are people within the church doing real good work and unlike the Waipārera trust who is paid entirely by the tax payer and pays 290 of their executives an average salary over half a million taxpayers dollars - Destiny is self funded -Luxon has signalled that all charities including Destiny and Waipārera are not going to like the tax changes in the upcoming budget it’s long overdue .Sanitarium donate a lot of Weetbix but they should be paying tax - Foodstuffs operators donated 6 million food boxes to Foodbank last year probably more than Sanitarium- Hellers and Tegal are also extremely generous - rant over

I watched a couple of episodes of the Belle Gibson story on Netflix - what a complex story - will watch it to the end - amazing she managed to conn not only so many people but actually believed her own story

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 22-02-2025

Congratulations Mica, wow, 50 years. Fantastic Smile

I read about Belle Gibson; she actually believed her stories which I think made her 'recovery' more plausible for those desperate for a cure. It's hard to pick a liar when they truly believe what they are saying.

14 years today since the Canterbury earthquakes, this Cantab living in the Waikato is thinking of you Canterbury Heart

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 22-02-2025

There's a 60 Minutes piece on Belle on youtube. Worth watching especially the bit when she appears mystified by the whole business. Mental health issues methinks.

As for Destiny, I don't think 'self funded' is the right term for an organisation that tithes its members, and has some serious discrepancies between income and expenditure, let alone where its head honcho appears to live a life of luxury very different to those it tithes. Sanitarium, yup, they too need to be closely examined as to their charitable status.

But then, if I was in charge no religious organisation of any kind would be considered a charity. Especially the rich ones. I think 90% of them are scammers selling snake oil for the soul.

I was comparing the lack of tax payers funding for Destiny whereas Waipārera trust is tax payer funded and John Tamahere and his family live in very upmarket homes and draw huge salaries out of our pocket - no different living in funded luxury - in saying that Tamaki and Tamahere are both sharks .Sanitarium are tax free because they are owned by Seventh day  Adventist or Jehova so it’s a mine field - simple churches should pay tax and charities who are paying themselves huge salaries - same with rates - charities and churches have properties they lease out and take huge incomes from should pay rates - the atheist coming out in me

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 22-02-2025

Me too Jan, we don't see the value in snake oil sellers. But there are some charities doing great work, with staffers who do not rob the bank account to support their own overblown lifestyles. Maybe we should save the tax payer support for them.

Mind you, I feel the same way about overpaid media 'stars'. Though as our viewing habits change I guess more of those will be out in the cold learning how to podcast, lol...

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 22-02-2025

Happy 50th anniversay, Mica, well done.

Sun's out here & still no sign of that rain promised yesterday. Madame le Dog has just opened the door & let Madam le Cat in & they're both claiming that its dinner time - if they start working together I'm doomed!

Today's the 14th anniversary of the quake here, the one which did so much damage. No idea where that 14 years went.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 23-02-2025

morning ladies Smile The hose is going on the garden this morning. It's overcast but no real sign of rain.

I can't believe it has been 14 years either, Lilith. Time has whizzed by.

The budget is due out in May, and I think the government will be announcing taxes on charities then. And about time charities paid. This 'a little for you and lotttssss for me' is not charity. Yes, take a wage if you are working full time doing it, but be fair.

Housework for me today, but first I'll move the salvia clippings into the compost. I left them for the bees to finish working what was left of the flowers first. I'm hoping I can have another flush of flowers before winter. And yes, I apologised profusely to the bees when clipping lol.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 23-02-2025

Mine are full of bumbles, some rather big ones among them. They are glorious bees, our bumbles, I love watching them. Don't know whether it is true or not but someone told me Oz doesn't have bumble bees, if it's true that's another reason we're superior. Although, they do have blue bees, I would rather like those, lol.

I picked up a new salvia from the bargain bin, a tiny one, a real miniature. I have just the place for it in a corner near its giant sisters. The flowers are a pale pink, be interesting to see how the bees like that one!

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 23-02-2025

I didn't know you could get miniature salvias; it will be interesting indeed.

I also didn't know we have native bees. They are solitary and look quite different to other bees. Our bumbles are babies, so darned cute with their little fluffy bums lol. There must be a nest around here somewhere as there are lots of them this summer.

RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 23-02-2025

Morning all
Bit overcast

Goodness 14 yrs Lilith blink and the years fly past

The flowers in the gardens sound lovely got to feed the bees Cool

Took the train in so no driving for me. We are very lucky with our transport system in Wellington

Nothing planned for today

Enjoy your day

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 23-02-2025

Morning everyone

Raining at the mo Had to put the light on.

Awesome 50 years Mica well done.

The ladies will miss me, but Im looking after me and Dianne first. Dianne is 65 this year and dedicated herself to looking after her parents, in her own home, got breast cancer and they went downhill. Her dad going to a dementia unit and them mum to two different homes. So she is taking time for her to have a life.

I went to Pukekohe and got all the dear stuff, Milk powder, cheese, Butter and rubbish bags lol.. Then I thought Ill go have a look at the Warehouse as they are clearing for the change of season.

I got a $65 pair of English jeans ( black) down from $65 to $4-97.. yep $4-97 and a Denim top down from $35 to
$12-49.. Glad I didn't look any further cos I was heading along the back road to go home and remembered I hadn't got the sausages.

I had left my list at home lol.. Got those and came home broke but happy lol

Went through the big bag of clothes Dianne gave me from Mums stuff.. 10 Dresses to wear over tights... cardies, nighties, tops. My wardrobe is bursting.

The first one I tried on I had decided it wouldn't fit.. But it did... It was the same with the jeans and top. I got them thinking they would fit post surgery. But they fit now lol.....I wish my brain would catch up to my body.

Cooking Peaches and pears today. Ill use them for my breakfasts I think.

Started the toadstool painting last night.. I dont know why I brought it. But Im not a huge fan lol.. But Ill do it regardless.

Have a wonderful day everyone

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 23-02-2025

Good morning.

Another hot day ahead of us.  Up to date with watering ... but only for 1 or 2 days!

The bees are so welcome on the purple salvias and I have purple petunias that I noticed a native variety on yesterday (darker stripes). How cool would blue bees look  Smile

Happy 50 year anniversary Mica, great reason to celebrate. Only a few years to go here ... scary how time flies.

14 years Lilith ... I have a friend who was lucky to only lose a chimney. Christchurch a thriving place now,  we enjoyed our brief time there last month when passing through.

Garden looking good with the lawn now mown, I shall tackle the passionfruit that is taking over nearby trees and possibly through to the neighbours! A few weeds to pull while out there.

Not inspired to find some handcraft to get into ... that comes with cooler days but there are always books on hand.

Enjoy the day all.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 23-02-2025

Yay found out that one of our schools is collecting White Elephant stuff for their Gala day.

Going to load the car up and take it out.

Fruit will wait an hour or two

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 23-02-2025

Blardy Cat.

She took me to the bedroom to report that the Bed was still unmade.. she thinks there is a problem with this and just wanted to remind me the bed wasn't made.

I managed to sneak in while she was in the garage to make it.

So she comes and sits at my feet meowing loudly. Which is My queue to follow and see what she is wanting to show me.

She jumped up onto the bed and got the fright of her life cos it was remade... lol...

1 point each today. Bossy tart doesnt understand airing the bed out lol

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 24-02-2025

morning ladies Smile The temperatures are definitely dropping, it's chilly this morning.

lol popeye, she will exact her revenge, just wait and see Tongue

MrK has asked me to take the piece of mahogany he has chosen for my box into the timber yard to have it put through their drum roller. It will do a better job than his gear. So, it's a trip into town some time this morning.

Other than that, I have a small list of indoor things that need doing, including overlocking some embroidery fabric, that I want to get done. And the last of the grapes will be picked today. The figs are looking lovely and fat and are beginning to ripen. It won't be long before the bird netting goes on the tree. We had our first pick of the spinach the other night and omg it was so good. Cooked with a little butter, garlic from the garden and chopped onion and lots of black pepper. Yummmm. Every vegie (except the onion) on our plate was from the garden, including the garlic.

The washing machine is calling, I am well trained to the beeps.

Happy crafting Smile
