RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 27-02-2025 Message from a favourite cousin in Oz this morning telling me her husband had died after years in the process, it is so hard when the Tasman lies between family members at times like this. Matches and dispatches as my Grandmother called them, should be attended by the appropriate amount of family gatherings and celebrations, even if they can be somewhat fraught. Our furry companions don't forget poor behaviour and neither should they, it is a protective measure. Sometimes I think we human beings could learn from that, and be a little less forgiving and better prepared to defend ourselves from repeated trauma. Suckers for punishment sometimes. I shall try not to think of America in that respect, lol... RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 27-02-2025 We took our vets advice to have our Foxy boy put to sleep. Apparently both our foxies barked when we were gone. Not one Neighbour bothered to tell us. But what we found out purley by luck was that when they would bark the elderly gentleman ( I use that term lightly) came to the fence with his walking stick trying to hit Digger. We wondered why he was shying away for MrP when he started using his own walking stick. And Pure luck, MrP was working in the garage with the door only open a tiny bit. I went out, the dogs thinking both os us did. They started barking and MrP heard the neighbour come to the fence going ballistic at poor Digger. We took him to the vet to make sure he hadn't been hit. But the vet said he would probably always shy away from anyone using a Walking stick, including MrP. We even tried a different stick. So we had our boy put to sleep for his own sake. Bella missed him soo much that in the end she went and stayed with one of our friends who had another dog she knew. she needed company and Always had. She came to us with a wound around her neck from being on a chain all her life. She was never tied up with us or with our friend. Our First German shepherd as a kid didn't like Maoris either, which wasn't great when my sister and family arrived as she has married a Māori. We had to shut him in a huge run while they visited. Animals have terrific memories RE: You can never have enough... - Jan - 27-02-2025 Back again after an interrupted start earlier to thank you for that link Hunni - it’s a cracker sent it to my DIL who is house Mum to the sheep who thinks he is a dog - she has mused out loud several times about setting up as a wedding venue - they have a range of animals from Highland cattle to Guinea fowl who interact with people on a constant basis plus the ol$ homestead and garden is stunning - she has a very stressful job in the children’s health sector - she woukd be sorely missed but can understand why her mind wanders to a more peaceful life Sun is just starting to peep out between the clouds - lots of cruise buses today We had one Rottweiler that was an absolute racist - the kids had a really nice little Māori friend at primary school - for absolutely no reason at all the rotti would completely ignore kids coming and going but we always knew when it was Allen - the dog would start barking - never was given the chance to attack him but he was very vocal - it was terrible as he was such a sweet kid .He would ask why is he barking at me - lucky he was really small and I lied and told him it was because he was the smallest and the dog was a bully - he was at one of the kids 21st birthday parties - he hadn’t forgotten my bully story and we had a good laugh about it - Have a bag of passionfruit tossing up whether to make some curd RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 27-02-2025 (27-02-2025, 07:37 AM)Olive Wrote:
It's possible to turn off all those notifications. Go into "settings" and switch off all notifications. You could also put it into silent mode. Each brand of phone is different, so get one of your family members to do it for you.
Cheers Olive, might get the next one who puts their unknowing head around the door... ![]() RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 27-02-2025 I do silent mode all the time. By accident, lol. RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 27-02-2025 Out for most of the morning with eldest & third eldest granddaughters & youngest great grandson, we went for coffee at a place near the beach because they have a fenced in play area for little kids, & also allow dogs so there were a few lovely dogs there too. Third eldest granddaughter has inherited the Scots eye for a bargain - I was admring the pushchair thingy, which is a double one & she told me how much they usually are - 2 & 1/2 THOUSAND!! The shock very nearly killed me but then she told me how much she'd paid for it secondhand - $250! Well done that granddaughter! Then eldest granddaughter & I went over to Kmart & I managed to find a birthday gift for her eldest so that's one more done, just need to get a book for him & another for his brother as an unbirthday gift & thet'll be two of them sorted for birthdays. And somehow, I completely failed to mention the slime I've also got for them for their birthdays, must have slipped my mind.... RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 28-02-2025 morning ladies ![]() ![]() lol Lilith, no need to tell them about the slime, some presents need to be a surprise ![]() It's back to the lawn repair this morning and later I need to pick my meds up from the chemist. Yesterday while weeding I found a cyclamen I thought was lost ![]() I've outlined another cloth for my bedside table this time. It's also bleaching and cracking from the sun. The mahogany MrK is using for my box is gorgeous. He is going to use the 'wrap around' method where he grain follows around the box. There are two beautiful knots in the timber, and he is going to 'showcase' one. He couldn't get it to work for both, sadly. Happy crafting ![]() RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 28-02-2025 Morning everyone Woke up cold, Id left the fan on low lol... summer is slowly leaving. Off to do bloods, see the Dr, drop a boot load to the school and then some groceries. Ill be sore by the time Im finished. The stumble on Feb 3rd is hanging around pain wise.. hence seeing the Dr. Poor Dianne has got bitchy family all moaning, they dont see their Mum for years, have done nothing for their Mum for years, but are hanging like flies wanting stuff that has also been gone for years. Ill contact David later as he was with me when Mum told me about a ring that she wanted Dianne to have. It belonged to the sister that passed away. And now the eldest sister is planning on giving it to another Daughter. Hopefully David remembers what Mum said. Dianne is struggling with all the paperwork and not a soul has offered to help in anyway. Paul was with her when she asked me about a ring. I know he will be telling what was said. Turns out Lorraine is being a witch asking can they trust me etc. I said to Dianne she doesnt scare me and Im straight up. Off to their place for a BBQ tomorrow. Im looking forward to it. Haven't been out socially like that for many many years. Hardest part for me is that Im not allowed to take anything lol.. Have a fab day all RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 28-02-2025 Good morning. Overcast and we have drizzle ... not expecting much though. The footage we are seeing of the parched countryside show conditions are not so good recently. I hope the Northland fire doesn't reach Waipoua Kauri Forest. Sad how family deaths can bring out the worst in some people, even worse when the police need to become involved ![]() Enjoy your outing at the BBQ Popeye, nice that you have been included. Your embroidery is inspiring KM, I really need to get into some handcraft. Life has been busy lately and when the days finally get cooler I will feel the need. First off a hole in a favourite cardi needs darning ... I've got as far as finding a match in some wool yarn the same colour. Lol Lilith, slime a perfect gift ... although I hate the feel of it myself! Planning coffee out with DH this morning to try out a new nearby cafe then the day is free. That drizzle is intensifying ... inside day maybe. Enjoy the day all. RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 28-02-2025 Morning all Fine day Early start currently in cbd drinking a coffee before I go to hairdresser. Traffic usually light on Friday so the drive in is pretty good also plenty parks in council run carpark which just off motorway so quick off and on. Always ama es me the terrible behavior of some relatives after a death so greedy like they showed they cared while the person was alive. Enjoy the bq Popeye DD called last night just as we were discussing when to reheat our fried rice for dinner. She invited us to join them at my favocal Vietnamese restaurant no brainer we had a lovely time Well better .move Enjoy your day RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 28-02-2025 Roma, I have a beautiful 'perfect blue' cardy that I love and have had for years, and it developed a hole which I darned with a bright pink fine yarn on the theory that why disguise the fact I still love it and will wear it forever... Then I found another hole... And another. So now it has several dots of colour, and I changed up the buttons for mad coloured replacements, and that cardy gets compliments every time I wear it, just because of all those fun bits. So if you find another hole... (28-02-2025, 08:10 AM)Mica Wrote: Morning all My grandmother put wee stickers underneath things with names on them for her heirs which helped a lot. But it didn't stop the angst among us when we realised our favourite things went to the 'wrong' people, lol. I think a lot of it comes down to the way objects hold memories of the people we loved. I always think of my Mum when I turn on my big table lamp despite the fact it has a new shade and it has been mine for years, or my Grandfather when I see 'his' very old teak Buddha that sits across the room from the lamp. And I still feel a teeny twinge of rage when I remember a rather lovely deep green ceramic piece that my niece has, that was 'meant' to be be mine, lol. Human beings are strange creatures, some of us I think have magpie genes! RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 28-02-2025 What a brilliant idea OHH. I shall definitely consider that if (when) more develop, which I think will happen as it's very fine merino ply. This one is down the seam slightly and out from, under the arm .... I might disguise that one, lol! The rain has set in ... here's hoping for a good ground soaking. RE: You can never have enough... - Jan - 28-02-2025 Grey old day here - no 29th on the calendar so I stall on 20 years old again - used to hate it when I was a kid when the new calendar went up on the wall and I didn’t have a birthday- wish I felt like 20 One thing is for sure Popeye I would be very careful getting involved in sisters dispute over belongings - blood is always thicker than water and so often somebody who tries to help ends up being the villain Enjoy the BBQ forget the drama Hunni that’s a brilliant idea - I have a lovely top I spilt some Korean BBQ sauce on and nothing has worked getting it out - mmm appliqué cover up would be perfect Another week flown by RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 28-02-2025 I have come to enjoy adding a bit of me to the things I wear, the home I live in, the gardens I make. It's fun, and once started it becomes a habit. And there's something nice about having a wee grin when I spot another little bit of silliness that only I can have made, lol. I recommend it, a smile a day keeps the gloomies at bay. RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 28-02-2025 It's just stuff, popeye. Don't get caught in the middle as you will lose. Families can be horrible when it comes to deaths. My mother-in-law named everything lol, you daren't say you liked something as your name would be on it. Thank you roma, for your kind comment. ![]() I've spread the garden mix soil onto the lawn and dampened it all down. Now it's MrK's turn to spread the lawn seed. The lawn looks like the Furry One has been on a digging spree lol. RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 28-02-2025 Yep I wont say anything to the other sister unless asked. She isn't coming to the BBQ so it will be a nice time. I got everything that MrPs first wife's name on that was on at his mothers. MrP didnt remember if it was things they had given his mum or not. Some of which I will give back to his niece. I know she will treasure them. The only one in the entire family that Loved her grandmother . Never hear the others talking about her at all. All the jobs done today. Dr agrees Ive jarred all my arthritic joints and it can take a while for it to settle down again... He has written a letter for winz saying I need a clothes line, He meant to say dryer. Hopefully I wont have to get the letter redone etc. Will try Winz as soon as I have finished my super juicy yummy Gala apple I got in my shopping. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 28-02-2025 Happy Twentieth Jan. It must be immensely frustrating having to wait extra years to hit twenty one... Mind you, I can see some advantages in delaying the inevitable. (28-02-2025, 10:54 AM)popeye333 Wrote: Yep I wont say anything to the other sister unless asked. No way am I risking waking up the rotator cuff damage by hanging on a line. I will drape the odd thing over the chair on the deck, but that's as far as it goes, they can call me lazy as much as they like, lol! RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 28-02-2025 Happy birthday Jan ![]() I use our drier too. Today we used a power shout as the water pump was going to be running for some time and I thought, why not, 'free' power' and into the drier went a load of clothes. Don't see the point in having one if it isn't used. The seed is on the soil, now we need it to rain. Wish the rain had come here, roma lol. It has been a real hit and miss summer with rain. RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 28-02-2025 Happy Birthday Jan ![]() Popeye we use our drier to I would recommend getting a heat pump drier - they do take longer to dry a load but cheap as chips to run. Would you believe it I didnt have a basic T that will fir DGD2 just downloaded a pattern which will take us to age 12yr - off to glue th sheets of paper together then I can trace off her size - skinny rabbit with height she is 2.5 yrs old and has 45cm (18inch) chest her mum is small RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 28-02-2025 Happy birthday Jan; I hope all of us older people don't lead you astray - well, not too much anyway. ![]() Did front lawn earlier & then tackled a few weeds along the drive; damned if I know how the wretched things grow so fast. Drying the clippings to use later as mulch in a probably vain effort to keep the weeds down around garden plants a bit. |
