RE: You can never have enough... - Jan - 02-03-2025

A pet the family have had for a long time leaves a huge hole - your grandchildren have had her around their entire lives - when time heals another stray will no doubt be lucky enough to share their love

I think I mentioned on here the problem my cousin was having with stray cats belonging to his 501 neighbour - the SPCA set traps in the nearby kindy property and trapped and removed 14 and managed to convince the owners to let them desex the 4 cats that they wanted to keep - they are terrible neighbours absolutely wrecking the house but it’s theirs to wreck

Yes Hunni it was sago floating in that tea - not something I would rush to have again

I wouldn’t go on a cruise if you paid me but they are continually coming into port so obviously a lot of people enjoy it - the owners of classic cars do very well the passengers pay good money to be driven round the town - we have lots of bus loads coming down our street looking at the Art Deco houses - the bicycle hire outfit does really well out of the passengers as well on a nice day - certainly brings money into the city

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 02-03-2025

Was a time when a cruise was the only option! That was how we got to go 'home' to Edinburgh as children to meet my grandparents. A month on the Canberra Auckland to Southhampton, and the return trip another month on the Oransay. And what an education that was for a couple of kiwi kids in the 60s. Aside from anything else I discovered just how lucky we were to have been born here, and not in so many other places, as exotic as they might seem. Incredible experience, we were very very blessed to have had that...

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 02-03-2025

Ahh Jan, that explains all the classic cars we saw as we biked along the sea front this morning!

I remember gagging on sago and junket desserts. Some things from the past are best left behind!

Great memory re that cruise OHH ... how things have changed.  Being in a confined space with nearly 5000 people (on a big ship) not in the least appealing.

Sad for your family KM ... I would jump at having another cat if we weren't in town.  I'm not prepared to have one confined in doors, it was lucky our boy was already 10 when we came to town, so didn't venture far ... as far as I knew,  lol!

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 02-03-2025

My daughter has five indoor cats on their new property in the wilds outside Perth. I do not envy her that litter box.

Tatty is mostly indoors, she sleeps a lot during the day and while she can go out via a window onto the deck at night, she isn't that keen. I think she was raised as an indoor and is just used to being pampered...

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 02-03-2025

There are three other cats in the family, but this one was the first our daughter had raised as a kitten herself. Their newest addition is a kitten found dumped on their doorstep and is deaf so an indoor car. So many dumped and abandoned cats around Sad

When my previous dog died a few years back, the grandkids sorted it. Of the six of them five live here & the eldest was pregnant with her first child, it was high risk pregnancy so she wasn't able to be involved.
Because she was the dog they'd all known growing up,when they came to stay she was there & we'd take her for walks & play so they pretty much organised the entire thing for me. One turned up & took me to do a last minute bit of shopping, then stayed till the others could get there. A granddaughter had found a vet who would come to the house & do the injection, another granddaughter picked up her brother from high school so he could be there. They asked if it was OK if they dug her grave in the back yard, there was no way I could manage it so I said yes please.
She slipped away very, very swiftly once the vet did the injection so I'm sure she was ready to go. I still miss that dog sometimes, despite Madame le Dog.

And of course, I now have a photo of some of my grandkids digging a grave. In my backyard...might come in handy one of these days.

How lovely your grandkids organised that for you, Lilith. And of course, that photo could come in handy one day.... Tongue

Our first cat had to be PTS late on a Friday night and we were going away for the weekend. She ended up in the freezer (in a box lol) until we came home and were able to give her a proper burial. We often wondered what could have happened if we were burgled and the thieves raided the freezer Tongue

One of my ex friends still makes Sago... Blurk.. No Ta lol.

I have no desire to go on a cruise. My Aunt and Uncle were on one ohh probably 20 years ago, around the Islands It was a Horror trip for all. They were given a freebie trip if anyone wanted it. They didn't .

Missy has only been outside once, sneaky madam but she came back in . And she's totally happy inside. And thanks to Hunni the wood pellet's have meant I could keep her. I couldn't afford to buy normal litter now. I have a years supply tucked away.

I've done nothing today , well apart from playing games.. Very addictive. Even got down to timing myself to see how fast I was. but I have no one to compare to so Im happy with my speed.

I told the Aussie one about it and said I will take NO blame for the amount of time she spends doing them. I did the same with Diamond painting lol

The same ex friend had all her put to sleep babies at her mothers friends house. Cos they were NEVER moving... There were three families of babies buried there. And yes they Have moved.. I told her to buy a big garden pot and put them in those with a plant. Wouldn't listen.. She is as stubborn as her father was. yes Taurean, and that's a part of why we dont talk now. Her likeness to her father was shocking and I simply couldn't deal with it any more.

Cooking schnapper and chips for tea tonight.. Living high lol. Sirloin and lamb last night.. schnapper today woohoo.

Almost worth putting a camera in the kitchen... Big Grin Big Grin

I think I have left little beloveds in nearly every garden I have made, even the Melbourne one. Two here in the thirteen years. It's nice, I can talk to them when I'm gardening, lol... But yes, it was hard saying goodbye to the sleeping ones. But that's the price of being a gypsy!

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 03-03-2025

morning ladies Smile A nice overcast start to the day so far.

lol Lilith, it would have been a hoot if we had, and we were burgled lol. My sister had the Fluffy One cremated and our daughter is doing the same for their cat. This way they go with them if they ever decide to move. It's certainly not cheap though.

It's back to watering the grass seed this morning and the lavatera needs pruning again. This time it will be a hard cut back for winter. I can also cut the iris' back now too. Yes, I know I am early in the season, but I can't do it like I used to so have to spread it all out a bit longer. Would rather start and finish early in the warmth than finish in the cold winter. And I am hoping to avoid frosts.

Coffee's finished, time to get moving. I hear MrK moving about but no sign of the Furry One. He's been sleeping in a lot lately Heart

Happy crafting Smile

Morning all
Fine breezy

We have ashes  for most of our furry friends in the great size down we left them with DD

Trainer was mean today so I am having a wee rest and breakfast  before even contemplating  a shower.

Sewed up tshirt and shorts for both DGDs yesterday,  DD and her BFF and families came over late afternoon for a swim gret fun and it was nice to cool down.

Not much on today will see what transpires

Enjoy your day

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 03-03-2025

Morning everyone

Not so bright this morning but the sun is up.

I remember the day my mother cooked tripe for my father, so it was before I was 9.. OMG it stunk.. He enjoyed it, but mum told him to enjoy it cos she was never cooking it again..

There is / was a cafe in Tokoroa that used to cook it, outside on a Thursday, and you had to be there early to join the queue.. It was very popular. Mainly males.. about 1 woman to 9 men. I bet there were a lot of happy families tho.

I would cook most things for MrP . Not tripe, not rotten corn and thankfully he never asked for brains.. But happily did liver, kidneys, ox tongue, brawn.. but I wouldn't touch them with bare hands.. The tongue was ok after I peeled it tho.

Have a few things to do up the road this morning, and its games day so that will take care of the day for me.

Thinking I might pick the crochet hook up again. Its something I can still do until I get new glasses.

Specsavers Usually have a half price exam in May, so Im going to wait till then.

Have a fab day all

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 04-03-2025

morning ladies Smile We have a foggy start to the day, so I won't need to dampen down the grass seed until later.

SH29 over the Kaimais is closed from 8.00pm - 4.00am for a few nights Big Grin We love it as the road is quiet for a while. They must have a huge queue at 4.00am at both ends. The detour is quite long via Rotorua is heading from the north.

We watched the kiwi programme on endangered kiwi wildlife last evening and loved it. Mind you, we loved the first series too.

Today I'll potter about in the garden, I didn't get to cut the iris' back yesterday but the lavatera was given a hard prune.

The council have a cat trap for me and can be picked up on Thursday. Hopefully we can catch this boy and see if he is microchipped although I doubt he is. We'll have to make a decision about what to do with him. We also suspect he is the father of a litter of kittens found at the local school not long ago. All cats seemed to have been dumped around the same time. The kittens all found homes within the school community Smile

Time to get the day started and make the most of the cool start.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 04-03-2025

Good morning.

It's getting darker in the mornings (and cooler) but daylight saving doesn't end for another month yet! Hopefully it's cooler today,  28 degrees was so hot yesterday!

I hope you have success with the cat trap KM. Multiplying kittens to fend for themselves not good.

Endangered Species is a great doco ... the tiny rifleman with the big name (titihi pounamu) so very cute. A lot to learn about our native life in there.

Groceries this morning and the day is mine. I know the vege garden could do with a tidy up at the very least and I'm going to make a fruit cake with leftover mixed fruit I found in the cupboard!

Enjoy the day all.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 04-03-2025

Autumn has slid in quite fast, but I like it. I must do the interseason edit of the wardrobe soon, it is too full and I know there are a few pretties but not keepers in there that should be pulled out. I am in a lazy spell though, too easy to procrastinate.
I started a sample knitted piece last night, but I suspect it is too hard. It is a knit stitch grid pattern in Noro with that fine Rowan mosaic infill squares, very beautiful but I can see all those yarns constantly tangling and driving me nuts. I might grab one of the old Fassett books out of the library and adapt one of his squares designs to give me a similar effect without the fiddly bits making a constant mess of the work.

Tatty was most intrigued with the basket of yarns I pulled out of storage last night, one ball in particular took her fancy and she was nonplussed by my telling her a firm 'no' to her adopting it. I had to cover the basket to remove temptation, otherwise I would have had cat lick all over that fat white mohair type ball. Frustrated mothering instincts I suspect, I shall have to find one that I can sacrifice for her purrfulness.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 04-03-2025

Morning Everyone

Overcast here not wet yet tho.

Ohh Bad idea Hunni. One ball of wool is no different to others. Same with Old versus new shoes for a pup lol.

When we lived in Mangakino there was a grey male who repeatedly did the rounds of the town. Making babies everywhere. Everyone called him GreyBoy.. he was undoubtedly the father of our Millie that adopted us by getting passed both our foxies.

Ill vacuum this morning then Ill be watching the women's cricket. While doing my games. Us vs Sri Lanka.

Have a good day everyone
