Always good to know these things have been passed on,isn't it... Rolleyes

Trimmed back the Jasmine again much to the annoyance of Madame le Dog - I finally persuaded the  branch trimmer to work & she hates the noise. Then picked up the windfall apples & sorted past use from useful.

I'm hoping to get around next to the drive later, bit too wet just now from dew last night. Its been much cooler these last few mornings & wondering if it might be worth picking all the tomatoes or not, I'll see how it goes.

Slightly concerned about  youngest grandson & his partner; they moved to Brisbane recently & it seems likely the cylone might hit there.

I'm really not sure just how it got to be Friday again, this week seems to have flashed past.

No cat so we will spring the trap and reset it Sunday evening. Our neighbour will feed her cat indoors for a few days and hopefully this cat will be hungry enough to take the food in the trap.

Son phoned last night to say he has booked his tickets to Japan in September. He will buy me some silk thread (I'll have to remind him lol) so how lucky will I be Smile Heart Offered to pay but he said consider it my Christmas pressie for this year Big Grin

Time to water the lawn again before lunch.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 07-03-2025

I admit Hunni I feel younger now than I have done for the last 10 years. All the Horrible hubby stuff really made me old.

Turning 60 in our family is a biggie really. My eldest nephew will be 50 next year. Outlived his mother, brother, uncle and all the grandparents.

I had fun opp shopping. I have a stack of 5 cookbooks. Yeah I shouldn't have but they are kiwi bakers and I have a good collection of them. And it was 5 books for $3. 2 Jo Seagers, 3 Alison Holsts and one Robyn Martin which I already had.

Best Buy other than finally finding the right bags for my vacuum cleaner are 5 Rodd Silver bread and butter knives. 50 cents each. Im guessing they didn't look to see what was written on them. So I'm soaking them gently to get the last of the sellotape off them and I will use them. They have pretty handles.

Not sure if my pain med is getting too strong but I kept getting wobbly when out. I usually try not to take one before i go out. So I better try harder and just not do it... To see if it is the pills.

Have decided Ill be having a bit of a change around in the kitchen on the weekend. The breakfast bar area is getting too cluttered and I can see it from the lounge so it has been annoying me.

I had Rodd Camille for years, those are pretty pieces. Great price too!

A neighbour was driving towards Pak'nS yesterday when she noticed a woman on the footpath in trouble, so she pulled over and asked if she could help. The woman was literally dripping wet and in tears, and hobbling so she got her into the car and drove her home. Apparently her ex had arranged to meet her at Lake Pupuke to give her something she needed and instead of handing it over he pushed her into the lake and threatened her so she couldn't get out till he left. No one came to help her, and there were people around.

It reminded me that there are some horrible things happening around us that we just aren't aware of, and they kind of put our lives into perspective. We really are very lucky in comparison to many...

Some people are nasty bits of work.  Dodgy

I'm sure that poor woman was pleased to get some help, good for your neighbour. Smile

Yesterday I was outside Fresh choice trying to put boxes of Pepsi into the car. I picked up the first one to put it in and the trolley and 2nd box topped over hitting the path.

Before i have time to think a young woman picked up the second box and trolley and made sure I was ok.

I have no idea why it fell over.

But I thanked her for helping... I admit I thought Im not old yet lol.

Its good we have some good people in town here. Cos we are gathering Meth heads staying at the camping ground terrorizing locals.

It will hit the fan there eventually.. They were all meant to be moving out. but its the Local emergency housing.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 07-03-2025

Mica, you are my kind of Nana lol.  Our grandkids can have biscuits or pav for breakfast if they want it lol.  Our granddaughter polished off the last of the pav for dinner on Christmas Day.  It was a good sized piece too Tongue  Poppa (MrK) did say they could have whatever was in the fridge Tongue  She couldn't get to the fridge quick enough lol.

We are so lucky with our neighbours Smile we all look out for each other and do what we can when we can.  But at the same time don't live on each other's doorsteps.  Our new neighbours were commenting they have never lived in a nieghbourhood like this one where we all look out for each other.  But then, they haven't lived rurally before either Smile

I have a gazllion sunflower seeds lol, way too many for me to plant so if anyone wants some red/bronze tall sunflower seeds let me know.  The small paper bags the chemist uses are perfect for drying flowers for seed.  A rubber band loosely around the top and bingo.  I'll transfer them into some of MrK's empty pill bottles until ready for planting.

I could do you a swap for some mirabilis seeds km, if you are interested. Miracle of Peru is their common name...

Those years looking after Mum were difficult popeye, but not something I regret doing. Looking back though I spent most of my fit adult life looking after someone or another, as we do, and it has made me very wary of going down that path ever again. So I am careful with my friendships, keeping an eye open for excessively needy or manipulative personalities, these last years I am determined to look after myself, even if that appears selfish from the outside.

I recommend it. And if folk do not understand why, that is their issue, not mine...

Totally agree Hunni.

And its one thing that rest home David doesn't understand.. he is not happy that neither Dianne or myself are not visiting the home.

We are both Happier, healthier, less stressed and our houses are happier too . along with Dis hubby and dogs and my madam.

We dont have family in there. If we did we would still be there. and walking into a depressing place wondering if Colleen or Annie are at each others throats was getting really hard.

No need to put ourselves in the middle of that crap any longer.

Its really neat actually doing what I feel like when I feel like it.  Pretty much a first time thing for me really.

I only did a few months on my own in Mangakino before my parents moved down. Then I married MrP and carried on going to see the ladies long enough at the home.

It really is MY TIME now. No one to look after but myself.

And its fun..

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 07-03-2025

It is fun, and it is a discipline to keep making that choice to have fun. Living alone can be a challenge and it is easy to sink into loneliness - I have seen neighbours go that route. It really is a choice to find the bright sides, to look for positive ways to engage and have fun. So far it is working for me and fortunately I have a good close friend who will give me a kick in the pants if I slide lol. We all need someone like that. Not to rely on, but to trust enough, like family.

Gorgeous evening out there, the half moon is up and the light is golden. My garden is watered, and I am planning winter planting. It will be a busy weekend pulling out the finished ones to make room for the new seedlings.

I have two Adopted sisters that bring me down. But 3 who lift me up.

I gave up being the worry wart for anyone now.. I can empathise without it dragging me into negativity.

I REALLY want to back but Im not doing that until my kitchen is straight

RE: You can never have enough... - Jan - 07-03-2025

Kiwimade - great news your son heading to Japan - it’s a fantastic place to visit - wouldn’t want to do it now with my bung leg - there are so many people you have to keep moving - I used to bring back coloured pencil and painting sets for all the kids - your grandchildren would love them - cheap as chips lovely colours and the cutest containers that were keepers - like the silk thread can be poked into the corner of the suitcase
We have a great neighbourhood - thankfully not coffee everyday types but the care that is shared for the occupants of the community house for the 6 mentally challenged adults that have been there 25 years is fantastic - without the community help they would all be on the street or in an institution

My son has been up in the US visiting his customers getting a feel for what post Trump will mean - he sells product to builders of sustainable homes - so they are more likely to be democrats - they will still buy even if there is tariffs put on his product which is good to hear as 135 people work at the plant that turns waste wood into these stairs that Americans love in their eco friendly homes as they are made out of what normally goes to waste - a photo of a sample - makes a lovely staircase when they are finished Mr K maybe interested - tell him it is made from the slabs left over when the dressing grade timber is cut
These manufacturing jobs using up waste are worth saving so I hope our govt don’t upset that orange haired lunatic

Temperatures have certainly dropped but I won’t moan pleased we are not still in Oz

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 07-03-2025

I meant Bake, but it wont let me edit it.

Oddest thing I brought home from Aussie was a Red Itty Bitty Bin. Cos back then we didn't have them here in NZ lol.

It was red, and I still have it lol. I was 21ish when I went lol.

Was talking to my twin bro before. He was saying where he lived with his last wife is right in line for Cyclone Alfred. Their house was on poles and only 300 meters from the sea.

He has friends there which he thinks are being too blasé, but then I think a lot of Aussies are mentally strange lol

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 08-03-2025

morning ladies Smile The fog is back and it's a real pea souper.

I would love to swap seeds, OHH Smile That's a great idea.

Jan, I will show MrK the pic, that's a very clever idea. There are many Americans who aren't happy with what is happening there, and I hope your son's business isn't too badly affected.

We were watching the Aussie idiots on the beaches on the news, they have no idea what they are in for. Thank goodness our son chose Perth! Flights are so cheap for him, $A1000 return from Perth to Tokyo with a six hour layover (in his mind more hours of exploring lol) Singapore on his return trip. It's more expensive for him to fly home.

Today I'll be pulling out more violas and some of the garden pots have done their dash. At least with this fog I won't need to water the new grass seed until lunch time. And there are more iris' needing a trim and divide. The ants have almost gone from the nest I disturbed the other day when replanting a shrub. I'll be able to plant the lilac in the pot soon.

I've run out of thread for parts of the embroidery piece I'm working on but can do the hem and other small bits of it until I buy more.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 08-03-2025

I remember being in the heart of Cyclone Bola, and later driving through the forests and seeing those trees flattened by the power of the winds, so I don't underestimate the strength of our storms. Being in one of those high rises on the waterfront would be terrifying, so perhaps it is just as well they aren't too familiar with what one of these tropical beasts can do. Even with those massive underpinnings, they have all that glass, I think I would head inland for a few days if one of those apartments was my home.

One of our oldest residents had a fall last night and was whisked off by ambulance for a check up. Interestingly, the paramedics warned that she would not be admitted unless there was something really serious, but she is not back this morning so we have hope that she is getting a real assessment - the one we have been hoping for now for a long time. She is the one I think I told you about a while back who we all think needs some expert support 24/7, lovely lady but a worry to those around her. Maybe the geriatric team can find her a safe haven.

North Shore Hospital is very busy on a Friday night, so maybe she's still in the waiting queue, no doubt there'll be news soon enough from our two reliable nosey parkers! Nothing stops them when they're determined.

The heritage tomato seedlings I planted late have big fruit on them though the foliage is a mess with our scorching sun and hot breezes. I know one of the plants is a big yellow, but I am hoping for a german green from another. I am definitely going to save seed, these did so much better than the store bought hybrids, but next season they are going into the ground even if I have to steal some space, they do so much better if their roots can go deep.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 08-03-2025

I had a brainwave while out in the garden, why not move those intrusive but lovely salvias in between my climbing roses. So out the trimmed salvias came, and they are now in their next home. Oranges, blues, creams and white all along the fenceline. I like the sound of that. It means the purple phlox will need to be moved but it has always been 'out of sight' in the garden so it can move to a place where it will shine. And now I have space for another big dahlia Big Grin There is still a huge clump of salvias to move but that will be for tomorrow. I need to rest (been growled at by MrK).

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 08-03-2025

Cyclone Alfred has been downgraded a bit to category 1,& expected to hit somewhere Maroochodore & Brisbane. Hope everyone's going to be OK. Grandson & his partner are on 20th floor but not sure how close they are to the cost. I suggested they beetle off to Melbourne till it passes but they're going to stay put.

Those steps look brilliant Jan & so good not to waste things.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 09-03-2025

morning ladies Smile It's a lovely calm start to the day, chilly though.

Looks like Alfred has finally arrived in Aussie, it still had some punch even with the downgrade.

It's back out in the garden for me. I'm wanting to get things done before the ground becomes too cold for my fingers. This morning I'll move some more salvias and remove some more violas. We had some rain yesterday which was very welcome.

Last evening we watched a movie called 'Thelma' on Netflix about a 93 year old woman who was scammed out of $10000 and decided to go and get it back. Parts of it was hilarious (hooning on the stolen scooter lol) but it also pointed out how vulnerable older people are and how they can be treated like children at times with decisions being made about them without including them. If you get a chance to watch it, do.

Washing machine has beeped, time to get moving Smile
