Hear! Hear! OHH. ANZAC Day will be with us shortly, another good time to remember to be grateful. Could be worse... we could live in the USA Tongue

I'm having a cruisey afternoon and have figured out how I can squeeze three more climbing roses along the fence Tongue By the time I'm finished, that fence will be smothered in roses over summer.

My Dad left instructions about my naming, I was to be Bruce Michael. Dad got orders for Korea shortly after they married and by the time they embarked Mum was pregnant. Made no difference though, I suspect his seniors were glad to get rid of him, lol. Him being a Scorpio too, and a bolshy Scot as well. My Mum was also a Scorpio, and my grandmother, and her mother, so all in all we think there were probably seven generations of us stingers in a line. I got a 21 gun salute a week or so after arriving, it took that long for the news to reach Dad, the enemy troops knew at the same time and the loud speakers across the lines were full of propagandised congratulations. Hence my Dad ordering the salute  which apparently shut them up, lol. Lucky he wasn't court martialed over that bit of nonsense. Still, he did do worse things while over there if his stories were true, and I suspect they were, and having seen the white phosphorus burns all over his back I can understand why he became a very fierce warrior from those trenches, and very protective of the gunners under his command.

We really don't know how lucky we are, being so far from those strife torn years. Long may it be so.

That's a hell of a lot! My great grandparents on my Dad's side were both Scorpio & my Dad had Scorpio asc so he & I got on well. One grandchild has a moon in Scorpio (useless hiding anything from her) & another has Scorpio asc. Still wondering if there might be a Scorpio great grandchild but not so far. Rolleyes

During the war dad was sent to one of the Greek islands, Dodecanese group & when the Kiwis arrived there apparently wasn't a blade of grass left because no supplies had been able to be sent for so long & the people were close to starving so had tried to make grass soup.

Oddly, all the Kiwi soldiers developed massive appetites which disappeared fairly swiftly, so that they had to put their leftovers into the bins.
Outside, where all the hungry kids were.

I know - & I'm frequently thanking my ancestors for having such good sense to come here rather than America. Rolleyes

What is amazing to me is how different Scorpios can be.

My mother and brother both stingee creatures.. my Sister and Dianne not so.

Have quite a few cousins and Uncles who were all Scorpios too.

I always said my Uncles were Hay Making babies, all being born in November lol.

The things I have in common with Dianne's Mum is uncanny.. We liked all the same things. I didn't really know enough about my fathers father who was the 3rd of May along with his great grandson.

Mind you we at least saw our grandfather, my cousins on dad side none of them met him. I showed one cousin his photo, oh it was after she was married with kids herself.

I boarded with a couple and He had been in the Korean war.. His body was a mess. He lost all sensations in his legs. He would be practically sitting on the heater and not know his skin was frying. He would never talk about it tho.

A Dutch friend who was in world war two would talk to me about it. but no one else. Not even his wife which is odd. But I always felt honoured he shared it with me

It was a miserable war, in a miserable country, with seriously broken people on all sides. But then, wars are like that. As a professional soldier my Dad once said to me, if this country is ever invaded, go bush.

Good advice. For someone a lot younger than moi, lol...

That maxigesic trick worked thank you popeye, I got a good five hours of sleep despite the coughing thing so feel much better this morning. Might even catch up on the weekend tasks that got put in the too hard basket with a bit of luck. We have an inorganic collection pick up tomorrow but having taken advantage of the demolition guys waste bin I don't think I need panic about that, the laundry bag though, that is a bit on the full side...

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 31-03-2025

morning ladies Smile Another fine day...sigh...Tomorrow we are meant to have rain. It's the end of the financial year today and tomorrow those on Super as well as other benefits have a pay rise.

Glad you had some decent sleep, OHH. Sleep makes things feel a lot better.

Another dahlia is on the to-do list this morning. And I'll water the rose and hebes I moved yesterday again. And this afternoon I should finish or come close to finishing my embroidery piece. Thank goodness for that.

The resident blackbird makes us laugh when he is in the birdbath. It literally is a bath for him. He just sits in it. Has a wee splash, then sits again. It's like it's his own personal spa lol. He must be hot being black so maybe that's it. But whatever it is, it bugs the heck out of the sparrows lol.

Washing machine is finishing, time to get the day started.

happy crafting Smile

Good morning.

It's overcast this morning but made for a pleasant walk on the school run.

Have had a tidy up in the garden already, after emptying a compost bin into the wheelbarrow yesterday. Another herb to pull out (sage) and relocate a piece .... somewhere. This one will take some serious spade work I think, then the garden will be ready for the compost and the perpetual spinach and kale seedlings obtained over the weekend.

Glad you have had some relief OHH .... I see I still have Codral Cold and Flu in the cupboard for such times ... the makers of which are being sued for being ineffective! I never look forward to the winter ailments which are inevitable with the GC contact. Must book in our Flu vaccs meanwhile.

Here's hoping something comes of the forecast rain.

Coffee time ... have a good day all.

Morning all
Overcast

Good sleep restorative  OHH.

Been to gym,  done some of my 1st of month filter cleaning,  oven on pyrolytic cycle as I type  will wipe out ash when all cool again.
Putted in sewing cave yesterday  continuing thinking about hyper quilted whole cloth thats a work in progress in my head.

DH pleased with the dye refresh we did on his dark grey jeans they will live for a bit longer. Like the dylon dye for front loaders very easy to use.

Time for a cuppa before move on to next job

Enjoy your day

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 31-03-2025

Does that dylon in front loaders leave colour on the skin Mica? I have some jeans I would like to redye but an attempt years ago with dylon left my knees blue, which caused great hilarity and an aversion to the process...

No residual dye OHH DH knees ok as are mine from black refresh last month. It is time hungry process. Wet item in machine with dye egg wash cotton 40 degrees, 2. Normal wash 3. Wash cycle with deterdent machine empty  for this last  cycle I do a tub clean cycle  which I do once a month anyway.

These colours https://www.gordonharris.co.nz/category/5172-dylon-fabric-machine-dye. Spotlight here have limited selection of colours

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 31-03-2025

Blue knees lol, what a hoot!

The roses I had my eye on last season have come down in price. And even better, they will hold them for me until we get there next week. That's saved us $$$$ with the rose price and delivery Big Grin (delivery was the equivalent of buying another full priced rose!) Next week that fenceline will finally be done and dusted on both sides. We also need to replace our sage bush. It has some bug in it and I'd rather it was gone quickly so whatever it is, doesn't spread.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 31-03-2025

Afternoon everyone

I thought it must have been 3pmish when we got home but it was only just after 1pm lol.

Up at 5 AM.. yeah that's a shocker after two very good nights sleep. Procedure went well. She has dialysis and every so often they get you in to flush out the port thingee and do basically like an Angiogram , they can even put stents into it if need be. I felt her pulse in her artery before she went in, i said it feels like it is fizzing, which is how it goes when it needs a good flush through etc.

Then I drove her home... And Like I had said to Gayle I had left the front window down on the car.. OOPS... but it hasn't rained here yet.

I think its going to be a very long day lol...

Talking of the dying.. When I worked in a jean factory you always ended up with dye coloured hands. It used to affect quite a few of the women's hands.. but oddly for me it was like a good hand cream. It didn't bother my skin at all. My nails never really looked white until a few weeks after Id moved away from that job.

Today I wore tights and one of Mums dresses, the one we all liked the best for the first time. It felt good. So it will be my normal wear from now on lol.

Glad you are feeling better Hunni... I have super sensitive lungs so need to keep something on hand.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 31-03-2025

Me too, with a cleaner, seeing our machines are shared and I have no trust in my neighbours hygiene. I do two loads after a thirty minute clean with a disinfectant citrus burst stuff, leaves the machine smelling nice, lol. Well, nicer...

Good to know, thank you, and Gordon Harris have a sale on...

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 01-04-2025

morning ladies Smile Another fine day, hurry up rain!

Gordon Harris is a great shop. So many interesting arty things. I buy my boards for lacing embroideries there occasionally.

Once the bin man has been the plan is to refill the wheelie bins and move a pile of garden waste to the incinerator. There is still a fire ban but at least it will be off the garden, and I can see what's what. Jack Frost and the hebes will need more watering this morning. The compost bins are almost full again.

Last night every vegie we had for dinner came from the garden, so satisfying. The late spuds MrK planted are ready for digging. They were supermarket spuds that went to seed so MrK thought he'd give it a whirl and see if he could grow a second crop.

I finished the embroidery piece yesterday, phew, am glad that's done and dusted. I'm still not happy with it but it will do the job. And it will be in our bedroom so won't be seen by many.

Happy crafting... have fun this morning, it's April Fools Tongue Tongue

RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 01-04-2025

Morning all
Overcast expecting that to burn off later

Went to Spotlight but couldn't get inspired by any of the fabric for the whole cloth project I sort of have in mind.

Went looking for zip for my retreat project next month couldnt locate so clicky finger found one on line  need double separating #5 in blue. Postage cost as much as the zip ouch! Sad

Meeting friends for lunch way over by airport, will call in at quilt shop on way home. Dangerous going to my equivalent  of a lolly shop.

Enjoy your day

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 01-04-2025

Morning everyone

The sun is up and looks like a Beautiful day ahead..

I remember one April Fools Day many years ago , here. The radio station reckoned there was a Tsunami coming to our west coast beach... Hundreds of fools went out to watch. Soo easy to get people in those days.

Once the bones straighten out from sleeping Im going to do the linen cupboard and Glory box.. and sort the mess left in the smallest room the other day. I have heaps of little boxes that I wont need so the recycle bin will get a load. Might actually move it into the garage so I dont have to keep putting the garage door up. And there is a box of soft plastics Ill go through and take addresses off and take those to the supermarket this week.

I Have a couple of good sized boxes that will be perfect for linen. I wont be lifting it lol. Once Im there Im going to start washing the red towels, cos they can dry outside.. Then I will start using them and give away the other colours I dont want anymore.

Have a fab day all

RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 01-04-2025

Still full from lunch so soup and toast for tea tonight.

Successful hunt at quilt shop. Of course I hadcto visit the children's book shop which is across the way 2 books came home.  The children of the rush by James Russell and couldn't resist a Joy Cowley greedy cat which has been re released to celebrate 40ys. Both DGD love reading greedy cat and the goldfish when they visit so have added one more. Cant have too many books. Big Grin

So been a good day catch up with friends, good food , fabric hunting and exercised the CC Cool

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 02-04-2025

Good Morning everyone

Think we are meant to have rain, but its still hiding.

Im off to housie this morning. Love Catching up with Erin there.

And speaking of Erin She is going to come on the train trip with us next year. It will be a blast for sure. !!!

I pretty much just have my wardrobe, a little in the garage and the kitchen parts Im using and pantry and Im done.

I feel like Im existing which is something I hate. But it will be so worth going through.

Have a wonderful day everyone

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 02-04-2025

morning ladies Smile We have rain clouds... now for the rain please!

Sounds like you had the 'perfect' day, mica. Postage costs are crazy for small (ok, and big) items but sometimes we just have to shop online.

This morning, I will water the hebe and Jack Frost again as I know those rain clouds won't come to anything. And the bird bath needs topping up. There are some knee high dahlias that need to be pruned back and divided. Might put some out on the roadside near Dublin Bay. And the salvias I moved to a corner will need to be moved again as one of the new roses (Ed Hillary) is going there. A beautiful big climber with white roses that will (hopefully) climb through the maple tree.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 02-04-2025

Good morning.

Overcast and raining ... I heard some during the night as well ... the new veges I planted yesterday can stand up again! The space I have created taking out the 2 herb bushes has left so much more room. I shall get more veg in when back from up north.

Today will be an inside day by the look ... might even start the knitting but there is a book to finish as well.

Enjoy the day all.
