My favourite since childhood.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 13-04-2025

Good morning everyone

Wow a chilly start today. Even Madam didn't want to get up.

I will be doing photos for sure.. I wont be having any arguments..

We saw a tandem Scooter that had the seats side by side.. It was crossing the road otherwise we would have gone in for a closer look. Mind you that one Hunni, would stop the arguments, I would be the one driving or I wouldn't be on it lol.
MrP was a Petrol head with a heavy foot all his life. Raced just about anything with wheels and boats.

I will potter in the sewing room today, just boxing anything that is loose. Ill put the cake mixer back in its box.

I've decided Ill block the back door from the laundry with the freezer and put one of my pantries in the kitchen next to the fridge.. I need bigger storage for the Tupperware.. I made extra shelves years ago so I can sort it to fit. Got Mitre10 to cut them to size and I covered them with heavy clear plastic. They are still in good nick and easy to wipe down if they get messy.

Checking out all my bruises this morning.. Its like a road map with all the cities accounted for.. Most I have no idea how I got them.. Its like hide and seek, lets see what I've Hit recently lol..

I will have a slice of Lemon Meringue Pie for you on the 5th Hunni.. For Mum and You.. I somehow think we will all agree to forget about having fish and chips and Then have dessert.. Just going straight to dessert will be more fun lol.. And none of us, well perhaps other than Fanny are big eaters and we just dont need to eat a massive amount at lunchtime .
I Must ask David if he has some ripe lemons.. They were the best lemons Ive ever seen. Well by the amount of juice not the colour.

Right Ill do FB and challenge the brain then back to pottering about.. I really want to take the book cases out of my room.. simply so it looks like I've done something. Although the books are gone.

Have a fab day all.

lol mica, that would be me driving of course! But if horse whips are involved then MrK can drive Tongue I've seen the 'double' scooters where the driver and passenger sit next to each other. The scooter we have is a 'travel scooter' and weighs only 15 kilos so I can lift it. It can easily be broken down and put together and fits in the boot of the car perfectly. It's perfect for when we go out and about. Being rural, we have to drive into town anyway.

oohhh my... lemon meringue pie, we haven't had that for years!

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 13-04-2025

Ive only ever made one, that I remember.. For Mum last year.

So in her memory Ill be making another this year.. Only got to share our birthday together, last year.

But I will insist we raise a glass of grape juice to her and give her , her Royal Wave..

Which is a Royal wave followed gracefully by the fingers lol.

Edit to add. Jo Seager's Mile High Lemon Meringue Pie is an awesome recipe

I wore the hot pink jacket on Wednesday, perfect for a slightly cool autumn day. In the process noticed a couple of marks. Dryclean only, it said. Cotton shell, polyester lining. So I washed it and gave it a spin before hanging it in the doorway to the deck on a decent hanger.

Worked fine. Nice and clean. Should be dry by tomorrow.

I do wish the lining was bright orange though. I wonder if I could paint it...

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 13-04-2025

And people wonder why I have little to do with my cousins.

But when the one I talk to frequently, passes away not a soul told me.

I had a feeling she had, but my aunt confirmed it. And in her nearly 90s she was going to have to check her book.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 14-04-2025

morning ladies Smile Another fine day, we are looking forward to the rain!

Aww popeye, I am sorry to hear about your cousin. Families eh.

Mica, hopefully the next few months without a K9 will fly by and another will be causing mayhem with the cat again soon. Tell the cat not to get too comfy in those spots lol.

I don't always follow the 'dry clean only' label as well. I'm sure manufacturers have shares in the chemicals dry cleaners use lol. But I think it's to cover their backsides if the garment becomes out of shape. So, my argument is, make it better.

The last of the dahlias will be cut back today Sad and some more weeding done. And that will be it until I can buy some more bags of compost for the knee high dahlias I lifted a few weeks ago. The twitch has almost gone, and I should be able to replant them soon. The conventional 'rules' of gardening aren't always followed here lol. I'm such a rebel Tongue Tongue

This hardanger is taking a while, I'm finishing each block of the pattern as I go now so it is slow going. But I am happy with it overall. And it keeps my hands busy. MrK has one more coat of danish oil on my box to go and it will be finished. The twist in the mahogany is barely noticeable, heaven knows how he managed that! I'll take pics as soon as I can.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 14-04-2025

Good morning everyone

Another dry day here.. I imagine the market gardeners are not enjoying it at the mo.

I know they always say When the Grandparents pass the families disperse.. Its 14 years at the end of the month that I saw a lot of my cousins at my mothers service. But it was probably 2006ish when I saw even more of them..

Should I try and organize a gathering.. possibly but oddly I have no idea what we would talk about.

David had 20 of his cousins up a couple of weekends ago.. amazing is the word that comes to mind for me.. Mind you it ended rather badly. One of them took some special cookies.. Add that to the drink they consumed, ended up with one pulling over from driving and ending up in hospital.. If you Making "special" cookies. At least tell people so they can decide if they should have one or not.

I did the kitchen yesterday, so Now Im down to only what I need for the next week.. So will be in the sewing room today. And have a gathering of pictures which will be taken around in the car.

Did anyone watch Polk Last night on channel 3? Its a 3 hour Doco about the dr whose wife either hung herself or he hung her.. During the case on the news I didn't like him and even less now. I just dont believe a word that comes out of his mouth. I feel sorry for her family and friends.

Breakfast is talking about Drivers licenses.. I got mine first pop, The only one in the family to do so. And My Awesome stepfather taught me to drive in a 1964 Ford Angliar.. He took a sledge hammer with us.. We got up the road and swapped drivers. I asked why he had the Sledge hammer.. he said it was to stop me from laughing. As I got into the drivers seat the back of the seat fell off... so Mr Prepared simply propped it up with the sledge hammer and we both laughed till we cried. I Got my license on December 17th 1982... I put my original little green book license in his suit jacket pocket when he died.

Always grateful he taught me.

Have a wonderful day everyone

Our friend who does all the tree pruning phoned and asked to come today rather than Wednesday. It was perfect weather for it and gives the trees some time to heal from the cuts without bugs blown by the wind entering the wounds. He suggested the big pile of weeds I had be thrown onto his trailer, didn't need to be told twice! When the bins are emptied tomorrow, we won't be playing catchup with the weeds.

It's embroidery time Big Grin Will sit and stitch while it's quiet. MrK is having a rest Big Grin

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 14-04-2025

My Cousin died on December the 1st. So not long after I spoke to her.

I find myself annoyed.. I obviously dont matter or people think Im too weak to hear bad news..

Of which I am neither. I dont need to be protected, and Im not going to fall apart with some bad news.

And with this cousin she was the eldest of us all. Lived a crap life medically but was strong like I am..

She hoped that when she died the universities wouldn't be closed cos she was leaving her body to science and they dont pick up in the holidays.. She also had a copy of everything medically that had happened to her body.

So they can learn what different diseases do to your body.

I really hope they were still open.

That's a bit rough, that they didn't let you know sooner Popeye.

And I hope your cousin gor her wish, & her body was of use.

Madame le Cat outdid herself today, like an idiot I'd forgotten that she loves mushrooms & was cutting some up while she was in the kitchen, sitting quietly on the floor.
And then she was on my shoulder, reaching down to try for a bit of mushroom. I put her down.
She jumped back up; twice.
I put her - very unwillingly - outside.

Approximately one minute later, I heard the sound of a cat fight. Raced out, grabbed the little toad & spotted a black & white cat beating a hasty retreat so brought her inside.

Gave her an nearly dinner & sent her to bed for a rest - for me,obviously. Rolleyes

Its the second time its happened. The other being my sisters youngest Son. I wasn't told till after the funeral.. Thanks Mother.  Not.

My cousin and I were the ones who drew the short straw HealthWise.

She wouldn't be happy with me not being told. but she would understand my grumpyness.

Been trying to remember the last time I saw her and Im pretty sure it was when my sister died. so 1996.

But She will be pain free, and able to walk hopefully.. And I hope her soul is with my sister.

Ohh Lillith Missy loves the smell of mushrooms but not the taste.. like me lol.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 15-04-2025

morning ladies Smile One last fine day before the rain kicks in, and so still, no wind again.

Families can be weird. Sometimes you have no idea what you did to cause them to stop talking to you.

This morning there is a bit of raking to do; told our friend I would do it as it is easy enough to rake the leaves back onto the garden. And a few big weeds to pull between the standard roses. And that's about it apart from any other weeding, the fuchsias, hydrangeas and roses. The garden is pretty much organised for winter. It usually doesn't take this long but the circumstances were different this year.

MrK's 'script needs picking up from the chemist and I might buy some chocolate for Easter. Then when the rain kicks in for a few days we can hunker down and not go anywhere.

Has anyone heard if the winter energy payment is happening again this winter? I hope so, it certainly helps with the winter power bill. We do pay extra each fortnight but the $$$ are still tight.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 15-04-2025

Yup, according to the Winz website, starts in May. I am looking forward to it too. When I moved to Mercury I got six months broadband free but started paying it immediately, and now four months in I have a fat credit that is almost enough to cover that last six months in advance. It means with the energy payment I can use the heat pump if it gets really cold without worrying too much about that power bill. We are really very lucky that with good management we can live well and be independent, I have a couple of US friends trying to manage on social security and they are really frightened.

On a more positive note I came across a yarn listing on TM for a pack of 4ply merino and possum in a lavender grey tone, ten hanks for $35 and pounced on it - way too cheap. It arrived yesterday and the colour is really interesting, the yarn soft, but now I have a problem. What on earth am I going to knit with this lovely stuff? Might have to pull out my kimono knit pattern book again, might be something in that...

RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 15-04-2025
