RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 24-04-2025

Good morning.

A nice frost where I am .... hopefully sign of a sunny day ahead. Southland cold always enjoyable ... dry and crisp with no dampness.  Just need the layers when out and a warm house!

Glad the shift behind you Popeye ... now for getting the house the way you want it  Smile

I hope the furry one improves today KM. Always a concern whenever our elderly friends are under the weather as they age.

An interesting time ahead Mica when you get another dog ... will your feline be able to rule!

Not sure what the plan is today.  It will have to improve from 2 deg outside first, lol.

Enjoy the day all.

My annual meds health check not as good as yours Mica .... first time in life with high BP! Will need to monitor.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 25-04-2025

Morning everyone

Ohh its chilly. The hat is out and the hottie is full lol.. I have the long one running down my legs and madam is on the bottom half lol.. She's not a silly girl

Hope the furry one is ok Kiwimade..

Ive decided to have a potter day. no lifting... BUT I have to find some pegs.. I did a load of washing late yesterday then halfway through the night I thought I dont have pegs lol.. Well I have a few in the car, and there may be some hanging on the screens that I used to peg up my pictures on when done. Ill pop up to either a $2 type shop or the supermarket later when they open. .
Since I haven't hung clothes outside for several years my last pegs went west lol

Dianne and Paul came in yesterday. Paul approves of the house. But told me to lock things up, shut blinds before dark etc.. Its been many many years since someone cared enough to tell me that. And he gives me hugs now.

Lest we forget..

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 25-04-2025

morning ladies Smile Another cool start to the day. We woke at 4.00am, thought, a few more minutes then, I'll get up and get organised to go to the dawn service. Nek minute it was 6.30am.

The lawnmower people couldn't make it yesterday and have said in spite of it being ANZAC Day, they will come today. We wait with bated breath (sarcasm here, they are not the best at communication) for them to arrive.

I've filled the wheelie bin with weeds from one side of the fence. Only two more to weed lol. All that rain and warm weather recently has confused the plants.

I also need more pegs lol. They have broken or been 'borrowed' by MrK for closing his seed packets and pegging butterfly mesh over the vegies.

Amazing how many businesses are still operating today. So many trucks have come by.

Lest we forget.

Sunny but a cold wind here, nonetheless may tackle front lawn later on once its dry. Changed sheets & have them on the line & hope to hem the new jeans i got the other day; as always, they're that bit too long.
Youngest great grandson visited yesterday & brought his mum with him; that kid is looking at books, properly, turning pages carefully & looking at each one.
He's not two yet. I keep telling them the kid's a genius..
He's due to become a big brother next month, a little sister is on the way so that should be interesting.

I was talking to sweetie darling no.2 the other day about how easy it is to become absorbed in things - reading, painting sewing etc.etc. so much that you don't notice time passing. I'm not sure if it's happening more as we age.

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 25-04-2025

Friday thread this week has letters, Sanjeev Bhaskar reads a letter home from Spike Milligan during WW2, another from Woody Harrelson about a grumpy cat & the funniest one is Alan Carr reading a letter to an insurance company.

Finished hemming jeans, got lawn done & even did a bit of washing so feeling ever so virtuous now.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 25-04-2025

I did my homework before I left on the pegs.

Ended up going to Mitre10.. Got the pegs.. red of course. Asked where to find the hose clips.. silly woman showed me where the hoses were. A man showed me where the ones I wanted were. Got hooks for the back of the bathroom door to hang the dressing gown on.

Got a basket for said pegs at one $2 style shop, and an afro comb at another.. The last one last 42 years.. Could only get a 3 pack, but it was either black with fancy handles or Blue Red and Yellow.. so I got the multicolored ones of course. Cant see them lasting as long as My first lol,, which is probably why they come in triple packs.

Got the passionfruit plant for Dianne.. She can growl if she likes but Ill ignore it lol.

Gonna need lessons at driving the heat pump.. I have no idea how to use it.. or I might just get one of my two heaters out.

Will try and get into the bedrooms tomorrow, After I hang the washing out lol.. Might rewash it.. I dont like wet washing sitting. But couldn't get to the shops early of course.

I complained to my daughter about the Ozzie army worms and she told me vinegar and water with a squirt of dishwash brings the beasts to the surface in daylight whereupon they salt them or let the birds sort them out, so if I see evidence in any more pots I shall try it. She sent me a photo of her new garden set up, raised beds on legs with covers, like a trail of covered wagons, all with water systems, worm farm and compost bins, all planned out with hard pathways so she can still play out there even when a wheelchair becomes necessary. She picked the perfect husband, he has even built her a full sized chook coop with herb garden handy to keep any opportunist rodents away. The two kids are all involved and loving the country life, I am very jealous, but also comforted that she has such great support. They are now updating the house and planning a minor unit for her in laws who are moving in to provide that extra cover as the family needs it - growing up with an extended family taught her how valuable it can be, and how challenging as well so I know they'll work it out.

As for me, I finished my blue scarf, floor to throat and down the other side, should be fun on breezy days down at the waterfront, and now I need to find a new project once that is fulled and blocked to shape. might be time to sort out the winter wardrobe, there's a definite nip in the evening air...

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 26-04-2025

morning ladies Smile The rain is coming, big black clouds ar eon the horizon.

Good to hear you are settling in, popeye.

Your daughter's set up sounds perfect, OHH. There is a small twinge of jealousy here lol. And I would be interested to know about the vinegar and wonder if it would work on other pesky bugs.

Yesterday I had to laugh at the Furry One. We've been feeding him a very expensive vet bought tinned food as it is gentler on upset tummies. We've had it for ages in the pantry, since his last 'big' vet visit when he was unwell. He loves it but it makes him fart and they reek. I mean eye watering, what-the-he** type farts. He was sound asleep on the sofa when he let one of those stealthy farts rip. The kind that sneaks up and assaults you. It woke him (that's how bad it was lol) and the look of disgust and blame he gave me! How dare I disturb his sleep lol. I told him no way, mate. That one is on you lol.

The hedgecutter guy is out early this morning cutting the local hedges. I'm assuming he is trying to beat the rain. There is something soothing about seeing the hedges all beautifully cut.

Housework today seeing as I can't finish the gardens.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 26-04-2025

Morning everyone

Grey here too, not quite as cold either.

Madam is on the back of the chairs checking out the hood.

Lol I think all pets think they can get away with rotten farts.. Madam doesnt very often. She eats mainly chicken, I wonder if that makes a difference.

I moved the lounge shelves a bit yesterday. Ill wait till Dianne is with me to put the shelving into place. Ill paint in the summer. Cos I cant lift the tv myself.
Will try and sort the bedrooms a bit today. It will stop madam being a worry wart too I think.

Cant remember if I told you, the Day we moved in I noticed the Dead Hydrangea has new growth on it... SOOOO wrapped. But Ill cut all the dead stuff off it before David visits.. Yayayayay.

Who ever invented these long hotties needs an award. I can have one down my legs and there's enough room, with the weightloss that the lappy on a tray and Madam can all fit lol.

Have a fab day all

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 26-04-2025

It wasn't the hedgecutter Sad They were working in the paddocks across the road.

Just watch the extra warmth with your laptop, popeye. Laptops don't like being extra cosy.

Only the hard floors to wash and the housework is done.

RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 26-04-2025

Morning all
Sunny very chilly start.

Popeye you can look up your heat pump manual on line to figure out the controls easy once you know.  Heat pump will be cheaper to run compared to normal heaters.

Expecting  DS and GK to arrive soon they want a swim in nana big pool Big Grin

Got most fill done one quilt a bit of mindless sewing

Enjoy your day

Oops, sorry, I meant the Friday Funnies thread, under General. The Alan Carr one, reading the letter to an insurance co, is hilarious.

That sounds ideal, just what she needs - she does seem to have chosen a truly excellent bloke. Smile

Years ago, in Blenheim I made a wearable robe for the Marlborough Public Art Gallery's wearable arts exhibition, from my Mother's lifetime collection of hand dyed silks. It was a heavily padded patchworked full length kimono styled robe lined with more silk, and over stitched, very weighty and took ages to make. But completely useless unless the wearer lived in arctic conditions! But too good to ever just dispose of...

This morning I took my best scissors to it and now it is in chunks, ready to be remade into more useful things. Just what, I await inspiration. But it is done, after decades of 'one day' procrastination...

Boy, those silk pieces are beautiful...

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 26-04-2025

Bathroom, Laundry and my bedroom done..

Been a busy day but it is nice to have things in place.

Looks like a bomb went off in the spare room tho. But so long as I can get the bed down for next Sunday it will be fine. I will stop when my sister friend is here.. Well ill be the made but I wont be moving stuff around. I have no intentions in playing with craft stuff while she is here or she will manage to get some into her car.

I got two loads of washing dry.. Ohh it felt good lol.

Missy is a lot happier having the bed up. Will be a lot of removing from the spare room, putting the bed down then re stacking in there.

My arms are a Mess.. Bruising everywhere..

Oh and my clothes are hanging finally.. Tops and bottoms in the bedroom and Coats, cardy's and dresses in the lounge.

Ill get Dianne to pop in and we will do the shelves in the lounge. Painting can wait until summer. But I wont try and lift the tv myself. I could when I got it, but no way I can at the mo. The arms are just tired.

Then I can sort the sewing room and garage. well 2/3rds of a garage. The big pantry and shelving are empty. But will be full by the time Im finished.

Under my bed is full. lol.

One thing I brought the other day was fruit. Something that didn't happen often on the tight budget.. So I just enjoyed a yummy apple.

Great British sewing bee and then Call the Midwife.. Then 30 minutes of ghosties.. A good nights viewing

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 27-04-2025

morning ladies Smile It has rained overnight with more to come. Rain is welcome this time of the year.

Those silks sound gorgeous, OHH. I'm sure something special will come to mind.

The first thing we ever did when moving was make the beds. Then it didn't matter what was left to do at the end of the day, at least the beds were made, and we could crash.

I watched the Pope's funeral last night. A simple (for a Pope) requiem mass. I see the Orange Clown and Zelensky had talks while there. I also watched the GBSB but on demand. They certainly made a pig's ear of that denim A line skirt. I love there is an 84 year old granddad in the competition. His made to measure dress was gorgeous even unhemmed. I'll be cheering for him lol.

It will be an indoorsy day again today. A good excuse to work on my hardanger. I did some cutting yesterday, was distracted and cut the wrong bit. (I blame mrK Tongue). To repair it, I used a thread from the fabric and darned it. Looks messy to me but hopefully won't be too noticeable. Too much been stitched to bin it.

I need a giggle so am off to find the Friday Funnies Big Grin

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 27-04-2025

Morning everyone

Wet here too. The neighbours washing is having another rinse.

I enjoyed the GBSB.. I pick up on characters quite quickly. And for some reason I dont like the older lady. Not sure why yet. The one that got item of the day I do like. Nice seeing soo many men.

Was good to see Call the midwife again.

Not often I take pain meds through the night but at 4 am it was needed. My left arm has a slight pinched nerve I think which is annoying.. But Ill keep pottering. Going to do the shelves in the lounge.. It will make me happy to have them done.

Have a wonderful day everyone
