RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 09-05-2025 I'm now slightly worried about my power bill, due in the nest week or so. Its been so cold already here that I used the heater for a couple of evenings, thankfully its slight;y warmer now but that won't last. Have posted the Friday funny, The Olivia Colman reading a novelists letter to a funeral parlour, Tony Robinson reading letter from cantankerous father to son, & Danny Bhoy on a Scottish ceilidh are hilarious. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 09-05-2025 One of the men I follow on Instagram is a knitter, and he posed an interesting challenge this morning - how many stitches can you knit in a minute? He did 40, plain, on US4s... My current project is seed stitch, on 4s, so I timed it out. 17... But all that yarn swapping must slow me down, right? Fun though... RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 09-05-2025 Gidday all Grey Overcast and dampness in the air expecting heavier rain later temperatures mild. You lot had me worried about out up coming power bill it arrived this morning $110 thats with hear pump on 16 24/7 and we have had some very cold spells in the last 4 weeks when we have up'd the temp to 18, not to mentionnusing the hear pump drier alot so I and our bank balance feels relieved. Decided to go travel up the coast to shopping centre this morning we hadn't been there for number of years but transmission gully makes it a quick trip. Had fun bought couple merino outer tops . Notice most shops had discounts. We were down to 3 champagne flutes noted Steven's had 40% off 2 or more so bought 3. Used my $20 Farmers voucher so ended up costing us $15 lgot to love a bargin ![]() DS and 2 GK coming here after school for a swim then staying for dinner have orders for chocolate mousse for DGD2 and apple crumble for DGS so will get that made after I finish my cuppa. Hope MrK gets released KM. Keep dry RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 09-05-2025 Im going to go back to using my little heater. I dont like hot air anyway.. One good thing is I can close a door on the living room, which I couldn't do in the other house. David brought me around his little multifunction cooker. Its a doozy. Anko brand from KMart. it does everything including baking, grill, air fry defrost ,Rotisseri (sp) I wish I had known about them before I got my air fryer. Sparky has been, replaced two bits in the elements. And ordering a thermostat for the oven. Which may not get here till Tuesday or Wednesday, and he is off into Hospital on Wednesday, but said his worker should.. "Should" come. OMG it was filthy in behind it. Greasy cobwebs rubbish.. Ive got rid of the rubbish but Ill pull it out again and wash it.. I should have taken photos actually. My Spell checker isnt working lol. I Might pop over the pak n save tomorrow, they have the nice little whole chickens for $5 I could rotisery one. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 09-05-2025 Actual power bill arrived. Actual power used? $67.83 The rest, well, extortion? RE: You can never have enough... - zqwerty - 09-05-2025 Extortion is the correct word. RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 09-05-2025 So pleased for you. HUnni. And yes often mine is more the daily charge than the actual amount used. Mines in credit thankfully. I now have 4 working elements.. Yay... It got soo dark I thought it was dinner time and had it cooking before I realised it was early lol.. but nice that I didnt burn anything. Im a happy Lassy and will be even more so when the oven works. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 09-05-2025 Mine too, a year's worth. Well, last years worth lol! It is dark. And wet. Early night again with Lee Child I suspect... RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 10-05-2025 morning ladies ![]() I've been using power shouts to keep the drier going but I think, if I have to go into town, is it worth throwing the washing into the big commercial driers at the laundromat. It only takes half an hour to dry a huge load and costs $4. Today though, it will go on the line. Grocery shopping needs to be done today, the Furry One will be happy as he has run out of treats. Other than that, it will be a quiet day to give MrK some time to fully recover. RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 10-05-2025 Morning everyone Looks calmer out for sure. We had good rain but no wind. It was just coming straight down. Used the big element last night and it was perfect. Im off to Pukekohe today. Need just a few things but I fancy a walk around.. Yesterday I woke up and my feet were swollen and I was spinning at times. Thats gone. But I think cos I stopped and it wasnt good for me. So as there is a couple of things I want from the warehouse Ill have a good walking window shop. I want to get the curtain done for the back door of the kitchen. and then Ill carry on moving things into place. Have a good day everyone RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 10-05-2025 Morning all Fine sun rising cloudless sky nippy. Glad MrK home KM the furryone will be happy. Rugged up fur lined boots on off to watch DGS first soccer game and currently it is a balmy 8 degrees. House work will be deferred today. Not sure what else we will getvup to today Enjoy your day RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 10-05-2025 I have been very bad. My neighbour has a small weedy lawn in front of her flat and years before she came I made a border garden with lots of lovely things that she likes to look out on but never helps maintain. That little lawn offends me. So neglected, so unloved. So mossy and compacted. She has gone to Melbourne to be with family for 21 days... Yup. I did it. Raked, scraped, reseeded. Just grow dammit. Grow fast. You have 21 days... RE: You can never have enough... - Jan - 10-05-2025 Funny old day in the Bay today - Mother Nature can’t make up her mind - sun pops out briefly and disappears again behind grey clouds - very heavy rain in the night - perfect day for doing nothing - am struggling with my current project and the dark blue yarn- looking at a magnifying lamp - there are so many with a huge price range - the cheaper ones could be OK - thank goodness for the internet to check out the range - but not sure about customer reviews Hope Mr K makes a speedy recovery - hopefully he is a good patient Don’t forget the power rebate that is available - it was supposed to finish this year but has been extended out to 2032 - I have claimed it the last 2 years by sending an email to Meridian - the money is allocated so if it is not claimed will just go back into power company profits- I know that’s 52% to the tax payers https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/126398542/lowuser-electricity-tariffs-will-be-phased-out-over-5-years Hunni my grandaughter bought the most beautiful calligraphy ink I have seen from Ribbon Rose in Auckland - the colours are absolutely stunning. She is a lawyer - has been based in Auck for the last few years her law firm was latched onto the cash cow Labour hooked them onto sorting out the legal mess the 2020 changes to the pay equity legislation -these 20 or so lawyers won’t be voting National for killing off their cash cow - in 5 years only 3 cases were fully resolved - the ones in the pipeline that have been halted were years away from resolution -it’s very hard to provide legal argument as to why a librarian should get paid the same as a roading engineer My son has leased his property in CHB as all the surrounding farms have been purchased for forestry - from 2020 the forestry companies have been allowed to plant pines right to the fence line so much of his land will end up in shade - my DIL has a small milking flock of saanen goats and self shearing sheep so sunshine is vital - they have purchased a property in Waikato a few kms away from Sanctuary Mountain - kakapo was heard booming there - the first time in the NI for over a century so the kids are determined they are going to hear it - they have sent me several videos they have made at night - so many morepork I think they are going to enjoy living there - none of them are phased about changing schools I would of been very concerned about that Better get cracking RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 10-05-2025 Good on you Hunnie... Go for it. She might not even notice.. And smile sweetly if she does, Ohh I just thought you might like something nice to come home to... lol I've had fun shopping. Stayed within the self imposed budget.. Ended up getting normal but super soft bath towels cos the Hand towels are ridiculously small. Would be dripping within 3 hand washes Max. Got the hooks and eyes to do the other doorway. Looked at the candles, they had pretty little ones in jars online but I found 2 and man they stunk lol... So got to slightly bigger ones. Ambience. And the scent is Waiheke Island, its sooo pretty. Bonus buy was two red placemats, the same make up as the ones they had at the rest home Christmas dinner, but slightly different in design. I had loved them soo much back then that I got two for the wee breakfast bar. But will probably end up on the coffee table when its painted. I am enjoying buying fruit and vege's again. I like my own style coleslaw but dont like the white of the cabbage much. but found a nice half of one that has heaps of green... Best buy was 3 kg, yep 3kg cans of Oak peaches for $6-99 at reduced to clear. I have peaches on my creamed rice for breakfast so they are in the store cupboard. Right Ill do my games then hand sew the curtain.. Will be faster than digging the sewing machine out... RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 10-05-2025 Sweetie darling no. 2 called in briefly - he's been making tomato sauce & brought me a bottle of it. It's seriously good if slightly thick but it inspired me to make spaghetti for dinner tonight which sorts that problem. Next time he'll probably make it a bit less thick, but Mum would have been proud of him. She used to make various kinds of sauces & did all the preserving everyone did back then. Oh those were incredibly beautiful. As for the pay equity thing, I just have one question... Why all the urgency and secrecy? Makes the whole business pong z bit. But then politics these days carries a certain je ne sais quoi, lol... ![]() RE: You can never have enough... - Jan - 10-05-2025 (10-05-2025, 03:42 PM)Oh_hunnihunni Wrote:there was no secrecy - Labour only funded it until 2025 fixed funding and the advisory group were advised in 2023 by Robertson funding would not be extended - National in May 2024 advised it would be disestablished until the legislation was reworked - Lawyers have made a lot of money and very few women have received any advantage .It’s like flogging a dead horse 3 successful claims in 5 years - equal pay for the same job is a lot better but women’s work is sure undervalued -(10-05-2025, 01:17 PM)Jan Wrote: Funny old day in the Bay today - Mother Nature can’t make up her mind - sun pops out briefly and disappears again behind grey clouds - very heavy rain in the night - perfect day for doing nothing - am struggling with my current project and the dark blue yarn- looking at a magnifying lamp - there are so many with a huge price range - the cheaper ones could be OK - thank goodness for the internet to check out the range - but not sure about customer reviews RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 10-05-2025 We obviously read different reports. https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political/560257/pay-equity-amendment-bill-passes-under-urgency I fought for equity in the early days, I think there are better ways for any government to promote this social change than to allow this debacle - save the country billions? That is such a bad look. But I suspect ACT is set on undermining its coalition partner. That's the trouble with unreliable bedfellows! RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 11-05-2025 morning ladies ![]() I remember working in the 80's and the idiot guy who was employed the same day as me, worked less, and was paid more. And I remember a young guy I trained being offered the promotion instead of me. When I challenged my boss, he said, Oh, you're married, and I didn't think your husband would want to give up his job for you to move for a promotion. My reply was, he would have been very happy to move with me. DON'T ever make assumptions. At least have the decency to offer me the job and give me the right of refusal. He did apologise and hopefully had something to think about. But I remember being extremely pis*** off about both episodes. Women need to be valued; without the work they do this country would pretty much come to a standstill. And fair pay, is not a big ask. And if the job they do can't be compared to a 'mans' job, then figure out a way to work out what that job is worth and pay them. DON'T take the rug out from under their feet and assume they will smile and take it. Nicola Willis and the Nats promised the cancer drugs would be delivered. They then tried to wriggle out of it (go ahead, blame Labour. BUT they had to borrow, thanks a bunch COVID and national agreed with it at the time). National had to borrow to pay for the drugs and to keep their promise and now Willis is wanting to balance the books. And this is how she is doing it. Shame on all the female National MPs for agreeing with this. That's my take on it anyway. On a happier note, MrK seems to be on the mend. And we received an e-mail from AMI saying they will be chasing the young guy up for our policy excess. He's in for a surprise when he gets a bill for a washing machine lol. We aren't holding our breath though. Happy Mother's Day to all our mums. I hope you have a wonderful day today. I'm off to my happy place in the garden once I have MrK sorted. RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 11-05-2025 Good morning. Back home again where we're readjusting to the warmer temperatures! It's obvious there has been a lot of rain with lawn and weed growth! The slugs and snails have had a ball with my kale and spinach ... only stalks left of the kale ![]() Glad Mr K on the mend and life on an even keel again for you KM. Oh yes, we all have memories of the inequity of pay rates. Our power bill also over S200 ... it's definitely not going to improve with winter coming. No wonder so many continue to work way beyond retirement age ... if they are able. Happy Mother's Day. I shall be catching up round here. |
