RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 11-05-2025 Our local Hammer Hardware guy popped up on my farcebook feed exhorting all to make a fuss of Mothers and he did it so very genuinely it really got to my sensitive spot and made my eyes water. Now my Mum has gone, and the kid is so far away it is hard to see the point in these little commercially generated celebrations, so I decided I shall buy myself something nice when I go to get the weeks fruit and vegies today, and to hell with the budget. But on the small success front I finally got round to starting to sort out the little messy bit under my deck, it being one of those places used plant pots and broken stuff seems to gather. For months I have been eyeing a bit of old ply board under one of the empty flats that would make a perfect floor over the muddy patch down there, to make sweeping up leaves so much easier, so yesterday I nicked it and madhandled to down the path and into place with a small smile of glee, and it fits perfectly, and is only wobbly on the corner I never need to stand on... Maybe today I shall finish tidying up down there, now I don't risk another broken ankle. Maybe... RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 11-05-2025 Good morning everyone Fog out the river side and sun on the other.. Its quite cool too. Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers.. Im Only Missy's Mum, but my shopping yesterday while stuff needed it was the joy of being able to get it . My life has changed.. Im not worried anymore... And I thought I wasn't a worrier but I obviously have been. I hand sewed Black... yeah Im nuts lol.. but I shortened the curtain, it was handy cos I only had to cut the extension off that I had added for the Ranch slider height. And it was overlocked so it was just a matter of making a hem for the top. Then I decided with carful folding I stitched the extra piece down to make a tie for it. So today I will hang that, and then start in the Garage. I figure if I can get stuff sorted in there, I can move some of the bigger stuff into the cupboard ( That I tried to sell and thankfully didn't) it will free up space in the kitchen and Ill be able to get to the freezer and drier. Have a wonderful day everyone RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 11-05-2025 Morning all Scatterec cloud Yes we all probably have tales of pay inequity back in the day. Glad MrK improving KM gives you more time in the garden. Sounds like you are settling in Popeye Have street morning tea at 10am then DD wants to go shopping seems her clothes have shrunk in the wardrobe over the summer ![]() We planning to visit Hawkes Bay next weekend so must get on to organising some accomodation later today. Enjoy your day RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 11-05-2025 And because we all have stories, we need a government that promotes the change, not stymie it. RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 11-05-2025 (11-05-2025, 09:39 AM)Oh_hunnihunni Wrote: And because we all have stories, we need a government that promotes the change, not stymie it. Agreed... What feels like it makes it worse for me is its Women who are presenting this change.. And its only to save a quick Buck to make the budget look better. It wouldn't have the Impact they want if they did it later in the year. The savings wouldn't look as good as it does now. RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 11-05-2025 (10-05-2025, 04:39 PM)Oh_hunnihunni Wrote: We obviously read different reports. https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political/560257/pay-equity-amendment-bill-passes-under-urgency On the bright side, this piece of underhanded nasty misogyny will, with any sort of luck lose this band of thieves the next election... They're worth it... ![]() ![]() Excellent news about Mr K, KM, no doubt he's happy to be home again. Cold again but not too bad so changed sheets & have hopes of getting into more dreaded weeding later. Mothers day - i tend to ignore it as far as possible given that the eldest lives on the Coast, the youngest probably has no idea that its mothers day ( a workaholic) & middle called in yesterday with sauce. I may though, shout myself a square of Whittakers dark block later. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 11-05-2025 I did think about chocolate, but opted for an extra bottle of wine as I picked up this and that and added it up in my head. Came out with vegie laden shopping bag and 22c left in the grocery budget till I swap some more over for Wednesday. Boy, my mental arithmetic is still doing the job! And it was lovely out there, lots of cheerful people... Always makes me feel good, a full fridge and smiley neighbours. RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 11-05-2025 The Garage bit is done.. But I am in Mourning Again.. All my last blackberries and PASSIONFRUIT.. The freezer wasn't plugged in properly like they said. I have a bucket full to bury if I can find the shovel, otherwise I might put it into a black bag and put it back in the freezer.. Actually that's a better idea. I am Glad there wasn't any meat in there at all. I've stopped for the soaps then Ill go and finish the last bit of cleaning in the bottom. Ill choose a towel that I no longer need, or I have a pile of old pillowcases I could use too. But Still no red Dinner set. So perhaps it is in the outdoor shed, or just in something I haven't checked properly inside. RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 11-05-2025 To celebrate Mothers Day we had a steak and cheese pie and a custard square for lunch ![]() We had a good long discussion about his end of life choices today. This stint in hospital has given him the willies, that's for sure. I've weeded a bit and sprayed the weeds growing in the gravel out the back of the house. Tomorrow will be another day weeding and getting rid of 'stuff'. And I must get the block of chockkie to my friend as a thank you for letting me use her washing machine. Whittakers plum and dark chocolate... yummm! RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 11-05-2025 Get two... one to give, one to munch. It is important to be on the same page about those important things. The confidence that comes from knowing the decisions we make are the right ones, even if others might disagree, or have other ideas, is so comforting at a time when every scrap of comfort is an absolute blessing... I did something I have meant to do for many years. Chernobyl happened a month after I was widowed, and I was in no space to give that horror any real thought at all. And it was such a major historical event, so I got the mini series on dvd out of the library and watched it, while trying really hard to ignore the dates that have such significance for me. So now I know what and how, and I am glad I watched it, I have filled a gap in my own life history. And what a story. Recommended, despite it being an immensely hard watch. RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 11-05-2025 Unexpectedly I now also have some whittakers ginger & orange & a bunch of what perhaps are tulips, not properly out yet so can't be sure but they look very tulip-like. I had a bash at weeding a bit more but the ground's still too wet, dammit. Just noticed that there's a doco by John Campbell about Destiny church, Watch under his command streaming on TVNZ+ so might have look at that later on this week. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 11-05-2025 It is very good, but each episode is bite sized, which I found annoying. RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 11-05-2025 I dont buy Whitakers, but Ohh My Plum and dark chocolate does sound divine. The freezer is now clean and freezing up. The mess cleaned up.. The diamond painting and medicine stuff sorted. Although I know there is a crate with med stuff in it, so when I find it it will be a meeting of the two. I put the heat pump on when I started cooking tea. Having the two curtains up certainly helps retain the heat and it only took a few minutes to warm the place up. Ive turned down to 18. I have my slippers on again.. Yay, now that the toe is better its far more comfortable. Text my friend with the Nursery. They still have passionfruit vines so Ive asked her to save me one. Ill pick it up tomorrow. I cannot and wouldn't pay the $46 ish a kilo just to throw the bulk of the weight away. So since there is a fence here I can use, I will grow my own.. Was the last of my raspberries again too. I dont want heaps of garden but will be happy to have the passionfruit again. They only finished work a few minutes ago, Extra orders for late mothers day shoppers.. she will be worn out now. but I know they have a good team. Doing a little each day is making the house come straight. Without wearing myself out. Agree again Hunnie. Once you have your end of life care stuff sorted, as sad as it can be talking about it, it gives you peace of mind. Having to make decisions when your a mess is very hard. I found MrPs death certificate. I thought I had misplaced it but it was with other important papers.. So once I get through the crates again Ill put it with Him, . I realized that Fanny and I hadn't taken him to the beach while she was here. RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 12-05-2025 morning ladies ![]() ![]() I am picking my friend up from the mechanics shortly, she needs a ride home while they do her WoF. MrK sounds a lot brighter this morning, even said he feels he is 'winning this one'. ![]() Buggar about the freezer, popeye. A new passionfruit plant won't take long to establish. There are thornless raspberry canes you can buy and maybe plant in a big pot. My sister-in-law has a plan to plant some, so we are waiting to see her results. I saw John Campbell's doco being advertised on TVNZ, I just know it's going to be one of those docos that will have me swearing. With everything happening in the world, I need more swear words lol. Mentioned to MrK there just aren't enough of them! I'm going to do a 'power shout' this morning so we can have the water pump on. Might as well use the drier for a few things at the same time. Better get moving, there is quite a bit to do today. Thank goodness it is fine. RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 12-05-2025 Morning everyone Glad MrK is feeling well. I didn't know you could get thornless raspberries.. Doesn't surprise me since you have been able to get thornless blackberries for years.. will ask Gayle when Im there today. I have a couple of big pots I could put them in. David said he will come back and prune the Hydrangea for me.. Who am I to say no lol. Im helping Him this morning. he wants to go pick up his van. The mechanics have said its dying a slow death, but in the next breath offering to buy it. They have it sitting outside so its looking worse, I said its probably so they can say its not worth as much. So he wants to bring it home and clean it up. Then sell it. Someone is coming to change a filter, not sure which or why, but its just as well Robynn reminded me lol. If I have time Ill pop in and get some over the door hangers so I can put Missy up again. Have a wonderful day everyone RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 12-05-2025 Morning all Scattered cloud heavy dew Bummer about your freezer Popeye, DS inlaws have thec hornless raspberries yummy. Been to gym off to dentist soon then the day is all mine. Got foot sore yesterday with the shop in cbd with DD yesterday she was partially successful wecmet up with her friend who was minding DGD1 at the Lego shop for free little project. Rose bush in a pot that the children could keep. Dangerous shop to look around. DGD1vwanted to come to ours for a swim so they ended up staying for dinner too One exhausted Nana. Enjoy your day RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 12-05-2025 MrK asked me to turn the water pump on, booked the power shout, turned the pump on and nothing. It's dead as a dodo. The electrician is coming this morning, if it has fried thanks to the power surge, it can be added to the insurance claim. The power shout has been cancelled as the washing is out on the line and no point wasting the 'free' hours. Buggar! One thing after another. And I thought we had done our dash with all the replacement stuff over the last two years. I really really really need more swear words. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 12-05-2025 Pruning hydrangeas is really easy popeye, it's just a matter of removing old canes and taking good ones back to fat twin buds to promote flowering next season. And of course popping some of those good prunnings into dirt to make new plants. There are fewer really nice plants that take from cuttings as easily as hydrangeas, though maybe salvias would give them a run for their money. And oh km, it never rains but it pours some days. How frustrating for you. You must be due for some good luck soon! A Lotto ticket maybe? RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 12-05-2025 So, the motor in the water pump has died and we can't blame the power surge. They are coming tomorrow to replace it. Thank goodness we have enough water in the tank. But this will cost around the $500 mark ![]() ![]() RE: You can never have enough... - Praktica - 12-05-2025 My plumbing troubles worsened...I found leaks in the unions the plumber used to connect the pipes he replaced - they were compression unions with an o ring, and they didn't like the old corroded pipes. The plumber came back today, and brazed in replacement pipes - and a pipe further under the slab, in the foundation wall, started leaking. The plumber bypassed the pipe in the wall, so we have hot water in the bathroom, but this pipe in the wall runs along to the laundry, so now we don't have hot water there. |
