I got cold feet so the rest of me is feeling cold too. Have heated up the wheat warmer and it is sitting on top of the tootsies hopefully it doesn't take too long to warm up.

Dianne has had enough of the world today too. Hubbies Brother died the day before Paul's Birthday, Then Mum died and they had to have their boy dog put to sleep this morning. Woke up totally paralyzed in the back half of him. He was just 12 years old.
I never got to meet him, both their dogs were strictly guard dogs, even the grand daughter only met them a couple of months ago.
Got David sorted with the van. It certainly didn't leak as I followed it home.. Makes us wonder if the mechanics were job hunting. They reckoned it would cost $8k to fix.
I have Found the Pot of Gold at the end of the rainbow... Well the rest of the red dinner set and my spice containers... In the Sewing room lol. So all is well there. I moved a lot of stuff to the big pantry in the garage and its freed up heaps of space. but Ill be putting my baking tins out there too and that's 2 Banana boxes full.
And Missy is Hung... Guess that means we are staying lol...
Went and got a passionfruit plant, and David then said maybe we need a passionfruit competition. Now that Di , David and I are all planting new plants.. Possible I would have an advantage, I dont think Ill have any trouble with Possums like they would lol.
Phoned my fave Brother in law. he's 85 today. Still cheeky, he gets that from his mother. Turns out they blew an element in their oven just as my sister in law was putting his fruit cake for His Birthday into the oven.. A good sparky tho the supplier met up half way of the hour long trip and soon had the oven up and working so the cake could be cooked.
I said maybe neither of us were meant to have a birthday cake this year.. But We still both had one lol.
The House I just left is on trade me.. Oddly tho it has an extra bedroom and the rent has gone from $580 a week to $800!!!!!!! I guess what we were told was a second lounge has turned into a bedroom without a wardrobe. They only have two photos on it. The Well trimmed yuccas and the main bedroom windows. I put it on my watchlist just cos I could lol.

That was the house pump, zquerty, the pump that pumps water from the tank to the house. This is the bore pump, the pump that pumps water from the ground into the tank. I wish it was the house pump; the warranty is for two years. This bore pump is well over 50 years old, so it has lasted quite the distance. They made things to last back in the day!

It's so calm outside, not a breath of wind.
zquerty, at least we can support local business by having the pump repaired locally. Even if it hurts lol.That piece of hardboard you found, OHH, was a lucky find. And if no one was using or claiming it, why not put it to good use.
Glad you found your bits and bobs, popeye. They had to be somewhere!
Patricka, I feel your pain with the plumbing. Every time we call a plumber out, we know it's going to cost $$$ and you can pretty much guarantee it will be over the weekend or holidays when something happens.
This morning, I plan to finish pruning along the roadside. Three hydrangeas, a Fushia, dogwood and a camellia. It shouldn't take long to do. And then top the garden where the knee-high dahlias go with compost.
My sister-in-law has decided to celebrate her 80th birthday next year with a trip to Africa. She uses a private tour company who takes small groups at a time. Our son cheekily said, I'll come with you lol. She loved the idea, and they are both off next year. They will meet up in Perth and go from there.
Time to get moving. I think the washing is done, the beeping is much quieter compared to the old machine.

Good morning.
Cold but the sun is shining.
Back to school duties yesterday, filling in the day between. The vege garden and surrounds now weed free. With a bit of luck the kale will sprout again. Next Bunnings trip I'll get some flower seedlings for my big pots to add more colour. Currently the vireyas and hibiscus giving a nice splash amongst the surrounding foliage.
Got to hate it when one bill happens after the next KM ... always the way. You should be set now! Agreed, plumber call outs never cheap!
Exciting for your son KM and something to look forward to ... hope they get to go on a Safari and see "the Big Five"!
Appointment this morning and will do a library and supermarket visit while out.

Scattered cloud the sun is trying to peep out haven't been outdoors yet so don't know how chillynit is.
Hope your pump gets going today KM you must be at the end of your bad run.
Got few errands to run today need to fill the BBQ gas bottle DH says we need to check as it maybe out of date so we may need to buy a new one.
Our weekend away needs to be re thought as all reasonably priced accommodation was booked. We don't run to $1000 for 2 nights got better things to spend our loot on.

Morning everyone.
Im cold this morning. dull and grey here..
I wanted to wash but there is no wind here either. I did some whites and hung them on the airer inside. The rope on the clothesline isnt the cleanest so I wont hang whites on it until I figure out how to clean it without killing it.
Wonder if the thermostat will arrive today.
Sometimes there are definite benefits to renting. The guy came to change the Filter yesterday, it was for the DVS.. I had noticed round things in the ceiling but had no idea what they or the other box on the wall were for. Never had one of those either. I guess that explains why there isnt any condensation on the windows. I dont know if they are plugged into anything or if they even use power.
Rather creaky today, so I think Ill get my dishes done, and maybe start transferring some of the frozen stuff. A little at a time still gets things done.
I got Missy hung yesterday, that means Im home. She is eating heaps more in this house.. Dont know if it is just her normal winter increase or if she is just as happy as I am and enjoying her food...
3 weeks today
If it doesn't rain Ill take a wander around outside and see where I can plant the passionfruit and even have a look in the tool shed.. I suspect its simply dumped in lol..

I had my first shingles vaccination yesterday. I was really nervous about side effects, having read all sorts of accounts of fever, gastro, shivering, swollen arm etc. But I'm pleased to be able to report that so far I've suffered nothing except a very slightly sore arm, so the worst of it so far is the cost ($700).
I know everyone reacts differently, but if you're thinking about getting the vaccine don't be overly deterred by the prospect of side effects.

It is an awful illness, especially for us grown ups, so good for you investing in prevention. Interestingly enough the first time I encountered it was decades ago when I crewed on the first Spirit of Adventure with a group of teenaged girls. One of them became really ill and we pulled in to Great Barrier and took her ashore and they flew her to Auckland hospital with a shingles diagnosis. So not just us that can suffer it...
That was a hell of a trip. Mid winter, fourth of July American football games on the sand that left me with a cracked rib... Those things hurt, especially when you laugh.

My daughter went to Great Barrier about 20 years ago, she said stormy weather, rough seas all the way there and back, plenty of people seasick.

I think the most seasick I have ever been was on the Canberra back in the 60s, going through the Australian Bight in a storm. The captain closed all the deck doors because green water was going over the top decks of that big liner and the stabilisers - new tech at the time - were useless. Everyone was sick, including the crew lol. We kids got over it fast though, but our parents suffered...

Typical Waikato... fog!I remember as a seven-year-old crossing the Cook Strait with my parents and sister on the ferry. It was so rough, it felt like the ferry was hitting the bottom of the ocean before popping back up. Even the crew were being sick. We made it to Wellington and began the long drive home. Dad suggested we stop at a motel at Bulls but Mum (who always drove) said, no, let's keep going to Levin. On the news we saw the motel dad wanted to stay at under water and could barely see the top of the parked cars. We felt woozy for days after that trip. It was only years later I realised how worried Mum and Dad were as only three years previously the Wahine had sunk. And Mum, my sister and I were booked on the Wahine but my grandfather talked her out of going home as the weather was so rough.
The pump repair man called in yesterday to check the make and model of the pump and to see what he would need to order. He did say, 'I might have a second hand motor out back' so that sounded promising. Fingers crossed it will be repaired today.
Back to pruning when the fog clears a bit, not much more to do now.

Some people know when to Not travel. A dear friend, one of my other mothers told me how when they were getting married she asked her parents not to come.. She just had a feeling. They would have been on the train that ran off the rails in the middle of the country, Cant think of the name Tangiwai Maybe? so even tho they weren't at the wedding they had many more years with them than they may have.
The news doesn't look positive for Dianne. The dr kept apologizing for the delays.. They did a biopsy, and they will find out what the plan is next Tuesday. Her last cancer was a very fast aggressive one. so we have everything crossed.. I know how easy it would be to give in, just to be with her lost son and mother. But she will fight, I hope. I for one am not ready to lose her, I only just got her. We do have some good memories tho.
I had my days utterly muddled yesterday. Thought it was Wednesday. So the rubbish is out the front, Ill put it on the road later today.
I did nothing yesterday, so Today once Paul has been to pick up their parcel Ill go work on the freezers.

I have a tenuous connection to the Wahine disaster even though I hadn't arrived in NZ yet when it happened.
As fate would have it, Angus Tait of Tait Electronics was traveling on the Wahine with a specialized piece of equipment about the size of a medium sized suitcase called The Ferret. When he realized the ship was in trouble the only thing he rescued besides The Ferret was himself but in that process, as was found out later, The Ferret was damaged and would no longer work properly. It was an awkward thing and quite heavy and unwieldly with it, he carried it wading amongst the rocks through the sea water to get to shore safely.
As senior factory technician it was my job to get it working again, a number of engineers from the Laboratory had tried and failed and as I had found before engineers are often not good in approaching a piece of faulty equipment that is new to them but has been working and fix it. However that was not me as I had spent most of my younger life fixing things I knew little about and fixing them from basic principles as I grew up in Africa and there were shortages of everything there.
As you may guess I did fix it very quickly, about half an hours work and was surprised how easy the job was and that they hadn't managed it themselves, namely cracked circuit boards. We had full repair documentation but I just used my eyes and fixed it. This feat gave me a favorable reputation with Angus and led on the greater things called The Tecumat (Tait Electronic Canterbury University Multiple Node Tester) a collaboration with Canterbury University to build our own in house automatic testing equipment.
Since the word is being used freely on this site, as a humorous aside, the staff using the machine used to call it Computerised Universal Node Tester, I'll leave you to work out the acronym lol.
By the way I am Central African not South African I come from Northern Rhodesia, later called Zambia and we are a distinct group from Southern Rhodesians (Zimbabweans) and South Africans, at least to ourselves. We all don't like the others but tolerate them for various reasons although time really has moved on now for us all, we are few and far between.

) I worked out the acronym lol zquerty. We certainly have an interesting group of people here.The pump repair guy has been again and taken the motor off the pump. He's gone away to see what bits he needs so they can rig something up for us until a new motor arrives. In the meantime, we are conserving water as best we can. Luckily there is still a decent amount of water in the tank. The problem is the pump is over 50 years old, and they need to find something that will fit the belt. If it sounds expensive, that's because it is
MrK has an appointment for his scan at Thames Hospital. It was the quickest way to have it done. It's been a while since we have been to Thames so we will have a good look around while there. And it just happens to be on MrK's birthday lol.
