It's still foggy, it has even dared to become thicker! An ambulance has raced by so someone is having a bad day.

Thanks for the link, Olive Smile This is something we have talked about for a few years now and everytime we get close to having the $$$, something happens. It will free up a cupboard in the kitchen too Tongue

I'm using more of those 'free' hours Genisis gave us and have the dryer going again. Whatever it takes to keep the bill down! I won't use the drying rack as MrK needs the space with his walker. And I don't like drying wet clothes inside as it makes it harder to keep the house warm.

I'm laughing at a random guy pawing through your nighties, OHH. It reminded me of my bra underwire getting stuck in the washing machine years and years ago and the repairman handing it back to me after he had extracted it lol. Cheeky buggar told me he now knew my bra size lol.

I seem to have managed to have peeled & stewed the last of the apples ready for freezing. Unless more decide to fall off the tree.

Forgot to say the Friday Funny this week has a Jasper Carrot item.

Cold here but sunny, slightly frosty when we went for our walk, & Madame le Dog set a fairly fast pace.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 17-05-2025

Think Im going Nuts.

Got the wrong chocolate for baking. Ill have to go back.

Paul came and took 2 seconds to grind the stupid lock off the door. Got two rather expensive locks so hopefully they will be ok. It will be nice knowing it should slow down anyone thinking they can take my car.

The Junktion aka recycle shop had 5 cookbooks for $5.. I got one Jo Seager one that I wasn't sure I had, and I did. But there weren't any others I wanted anyway. Ill give it to Leanne at the lab.. But one of the others is an Early Jamie Oliver. And the rest baking or desserts.

Also got two pieces of matching net curtain, hopefully long enough for the two bathroom windows.

I have a Horror of a hot water cupboard.. Ill take a photo later. The stuff that Im assuming is meant to work like a wrap is an absolute mess. but Ill see if I can find out how old it is since the house is 133 years old.

Had one cylinder spring a leak years ago and as it backed into the wardrobe a lot got wet.

Best hot water system we ever had was in the Bus. A Gas Califont. Id have one of those again in a flash.

Going to do my games. Then get out what I need to bake. And go and buy the right chocolate. annoying.

This past week there was a day when a hour or so after I dressed I got this sharp and unpleasant pain in one breast. I checked and no sign of an issue, but it came back and my imagination started to wind up to all kinds of unpleasant things that might require poking and prodding and other medical type nastinesses, until come evening when the clothes came off and I noticed the bra was wiggly on  one cup. The wire had snapped and the sharp end was doing the ouchies as I moved...

Stupid woman. Big Grin But I am nearly convinced to give up on a lifetime of habit and go for a soft cotton wire free option. Comfort is more important I think...

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 18-05-2025

morning ladies Smile It's overcast and calm this morning. The main road is very quiet, so we suspect there has been an accident somewhere.

The plan this morning is to finish weeding the last garden and if the weather plays nice, finish the pruning. I also want to waterblast the ramp and concrete sometime next week. Our little $100 waterblaster from Bunnings does the trick. There is also some old timber I have been cutting up for our neighbour's fire to finish.

The last of the big tree that fell on the house last year has been shared between two neighbours Big Grin and MrK was given the very last piece to use in his woodwork lol.

Coffee is finished, time to get moving.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 18-05-2025

My daughter was on instagram messaging with me last night, on about her garden which is coming along really nicely. I am very pleased that part of my parenting has 'infected' her with such good results. Then in the middle of one post she dropped the news that my sister, who turned 70 this year, has just been diagnosed with alzheimers, and my heart just broke in two again. After all those awful years with watching first my grandmother, then my mum go through the long goodbye with vascular dementia, different cause, similar outcome, to think she and her family now have that ahead of them is just so painful. I tried to tell my daughter that but she has focused so much on her own MS struggle that she has kind of wrapped it up in 'my genetics' and is able to put this news into that bundle of inevitability. The gene that predisposes people to brain diseases like MS and alzheimers, among others, is the same one, so I guess she sees it as a shared issue somehow, having had time to process that inevitability and the shreds of hope that come with current therapies and potential future cures. But my experience just lets me see the horror that is to come for both families, and brings me back to my own conviction that I am so not going down that road. Give me the genes of the other side of the family please, I'll take cancer over that any day. That or the quick way out in my own time and space.

So, last night was a sleepless one in this little flat, making tea at 2am and resorting to my current CJ Box novel. Life with Joe Pickett in Wyoming is such a comforting distance away from the real thing. And now that daylight is here I can start to get used to the idea, and at the same time wonder about having a child who could just drop such a bombshell into an instagram conversation with so little thought of the consequences for the effect. But then, that is genetics too. It was just that talent for emotional distance that meant I could not stay with her father, for all his other excellent attributes, lol.

Ah well, another day in an interesting life, not raining out there yet, just in here on my parade...

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 18-05-2025

Good morning.

Overcast and I think we are headed for rain. Hopefully will give the grass seed a boost that DH scattered over thin lawn areas yesterday ... still a farmer at heart  Smile

Starting to join the land of the living with a much better sleep last night ... good old vicks and panadol on board. Just need to get rid of the cough. Yesterday for the first time ever I did a "click and collect" supermarket shop. How easy was that ... everything as I ordered and no extra cost.

Enjoy your mini break Mica ... good for the soul.

I hope the pump is all go this week KM.

No plan today.  The vest nearly finished.

Enjoy the day all.

That is indeed bombshell news to process OHH. A lot of us know (or have known) close family/friends with those 'afflictions'. A tough journey for all. Take it easy today.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 18-05-2025

Morning everyone

Overcast but not wet yet I dont think.

Such sad new Hunnie. I hope that each day it worries you to a lesser level so you still get joy from life.

My cousin had MS , polio stuff and cancers. But like you she kept going. She was the one in her family that got the lot.

Oddly my Big brother had no health stuff, but then he died at 40, from a boating accident, so he could have possibly had over time.
My mother was also fine apart from being too stubborn and leaving her hip too long until it rotted. They took it out but she died not that long after... If only she had not been so stubborn, things could have been different for her..

Happy travel Mica.... I cant wait for the day I can trip about a bit. But to do that, it means Missy will have passed. shes a clingy cat, and its hard enough for both of us when I go to hospital I cant bring myself to leave her just for fun for me.

Baking today, Yay... I hope the oven behaves.. I decided not to go and buy the better chocolate. I hacked up the chocolate buttons instead.

Have a wonderful day everyone

RE: You can never have enough... - Olive - 18-05-2025

Sorry to learn of your sad news Hunni.   Given that you worry about your own risks of dementia, it might be a good idea to look into the shingles vaccine (Shingrix) as there seems to be increasing credible evidence that it prevents Alzheimer's Disease and possibly other dementias.

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/world/557034/shingles-vaccine-linked-to-reduction-in-dementia-diagnoses-study-finds

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 18-05-2025

Ohh, I am so sorry to hear your news. So very sad. Demetia is such a cruel disease for everyone concerned.

I read an article the other day about the covid vaccination and how scientists have noticed there is 10% less vaccinated people in England having heart attacks and strokes. Add the top up vaccinations and the number gets higher. A drug I take for my heart is a diabetic drug. There must be many more 'side effects' for different drugs out there. Maybe, eventually, a drug for Demetia will be found right under our noses.

Garden weeded and the edges all dug up to make a 'ditch' between the lawn and garden. The garden may or may not have been extended a tad...

Yes it is fascinating research, and yes, I am vaccinated - got mine when it was free at 65.

Medical research is generating amazing new knowledge these days, even with old issues like dementia related genetics. There is a lot of indications that it isn't just genetics, but a more complex response to other factors, like liver damage, potentially environmentally triggered. The good thing is that some scientists just keep looking for other answers without relying on accepted old school knowledge. And old school is often a strong opponent to new knowledge, lol...

We all have an end date for this phase of existence, that bit doesn't worry me at all. It is the way it happens that we need to keep working on! Big Grin

Just occurred to me... my sister had shingles some years ago. Not vaccinated... Probably coincidence, but who knows.

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 18-05-2025

Not fun to have such a bombshell dropped on you Hunni. Siuch a lot of life is beyond our control though & has to be lived with nevertheless.

Overcast here but not too cold, Madame le Dog & I have done our walk. Once again she was in a bit of a hurry, & about two minutes after we got home it rained again - perhaps that was it.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 18-05-2025

Life is not supposed to be easy, and I am broken hearted for my little sister. Especially knowing how frightening she found our mother's decline, to the extent she just couldn't face it in any way. Which lead to us becoming completely disengaged - my choice, my anger was overwhelming at the time, and the feeling remains. But I wouldn't wish this on anyone, let alone my sister.

I am sorting bits of the wardrobe out, make work to shut down the brain. Beats alcohol, lol! And I need to make room, just in case I win a certain winter coat I just bid on...

Fingers crossed!

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 18-05-2025

Its so hard... and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Well my exception to that is the Manager of the rest home.. She is such a horrible Uncaring person that she deserves to end up living that Life, in a home with a manager who doesn't care. I call that karma.

Seeing Bobbie and now Carmen who is doing exactly what Bobbie did is Hard. I couldn't imagine it in my family. But if I had to guess one that would have it. Id say my twin, just from the fact that he has done most of the illegal drugs around and I know his brain has suffered from it.

I dont miss visiting them. But I was always pleased I didn't know Bobbie, especially when she was good. I didnt have the same feelings of her being lost cos I didnt know her before it started happening.

Oddly I've been so stupid mentally the last couple of months that it does scare me a little. But Im putting it down to just being soo tired.

It is easing tho..

Baking completed.. the Oven now its working properly is lovely to bake in. Nothing burnt. And the scones I made for my latish lunch were the best I've made in a long time... Might have been the Mozzarella and Parmesan... lol

Im going out to see Dianne tomorrow so will ice the Afghans later and take a selection of the baking out as a thank you for all they have done for me.

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 18-05-2025

Good luck with the auction OHH ... sounds like good therapy to me.

Yay for you Popeye to have a working oven ... you'll be in your happy place again.

Possibly/probably not yay for DH ... decided to do a Covid test (even though expired) ... very strong double lines! Explains the symptoms for sure, though hadn't tested earlier as no sore throat this time round.

I agree, You need this win Hunnie.

Yep Im totally happy now I can bake.

Ohh Noo Roma, I probably would have thought the same, the sore throat was my warning.   Get well soon.

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 18-05-2025

Fingers crossed for the auction Hunni, good luck.

Madame le Cat came in quite early for her, she doesn't usually turn up till their dinner time but she declined to go out again so that's probably her in for the night. Probably due to it being cold out.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 18-05-2025

I like that we are cat people. I find mine an enormous joy in my life, even when at 2am she begs to go out, I give in, and she goes out to bring back a cricket...

Planted more red onion seedlings, did two laundry loads, and have the next four nights dinner quietly roasting in the oven, shoulder pork over untold vegies. The soup will be wonderful... And the fog has come back we are shrouded again, everything is still, misty, and quiet, it is so beautiful out there in the trees. Even the birds are silent and still.

And I found another massive monarch caterpillar. That is four to maturity. Four glorious lives sustained...

And best of luck roma. The bug is a bastard.
