RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 18-05-2025

I agree OHH ... look forward to being out the other side, certainly been knocked sideways!

I too enjoy reading of the various pet antics in here. Sometimes I'm SO tempted, especially when "memory" pet photos pop up on my screen .... not just yet though.

Dull sky with showers here ... the rain is getting close.

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 18-05-2025

Hope it passes swiftly Roma.

The furry tyrant decided that she wanted dinner early, in view of the inclement weather,so having scoffed dinner she has now retired to bed.

If I'm lucky she may just stay there....

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 18-05-2025

Mine is currently curled up on my knee, which means the lappy is perched on the arm of the chair.
. I enjoy together time so put up with a lot of discomfort.

I cant imagine not having a furry one. But will have to when I decide its time to travel. Cos I wont leave another baby at home alone.

I must have a look at Diannes swan plants tomorrow when Im there, if fine. To see if they have any big mamas too.

Will see if the Passion fruit has settled in , in the morning too.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 19-05-2025

morning ladies Smile There are rain clouds on the Kaimais but it is so still, not a breath of wind.

Oh buggar, roma, I hope you are well soon.

We're also cat people but with a hunter of a JR, it's not worth the risk to own one. He will be MrK's last dog Sad

Good luck with the auction, OHH.

Water blasting is on the agenda today. I'll water blast the pottery garden pots, ramp and concrete. Just in time for any rubbish that ends up on the lawn to be mowed up this week.

Better get organised before MrK tries organising me lol

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 19-05-2025

Good morning everyone

Grey but not wet yet here too.

Better tell us the auction ending time Hunnie, and doo describe your hopeful next purchase.

I've always said a home isn't a home unless there is something with hair or fur to mess it up. I cant imagine not having one, but I dont like leaving them behind either.

Off to Dianne's today.. a few reasons, its tomorrow that she finds out if she has cancer again, taking the baking out as thanks for them and to pick up my letter with the form to get my bond back. I didn't want them knowing where I live now so had them send it to Dianne's. The property manager was manic really.. So Ill fill it in and post it back asap...

I am buying a nice rug with some of it and saving the rest. I may have to have a day of proper window shopping. Being able to feel them is important. Especially if spending more than a cheapie although not so cheap on Temu too. I did see a nice one in the warehouse last week.

Apparently the painters have been at the last house everyday.. Wont be cheap to paint that whole place.. And especially if the painters wanders around talking on the phone for an hour like he did the day he came to see it to do a quote.

Have a fab day all

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 19-05-2025

When we had the outside of our home painted 10 years ago, and this included the pump shed and garage and rooves, it cost us $15000.  The house hadn't been painted for years and there was an awful lot of prep work to do.  It took our painter a month to do it.  He asked we pay him a bit each week to keep his income rolling through, fair enough we thought so split the $$$ over the month for him.  He was a sole trader Big Grin  All the extra prep work he did should hold us in good stead for next time. When we shopped around for quotes, they ranged from $2000 (really??? what kind of job would you be doing for that?) to $30000.  We went for the middle quote that seemed fair to us and him.  So yes, it will be costing the owner a small fortune.  In saying that, your rent should have been calculated to include repairs and maintenance.  And besides, it's not your problem Big Grin

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 19-05-2025

I am watching the refurbing of the flat in the block uphill from me to give me an idea of how they will redo this unit. It isn't a gut and replace job like the burnt out unit but a strip and paint, recarpet, and new vinyls, and new kitchen and bathroom fittings type fit out. Quicker, but still costly. But these units haven't been updated since the 80s at best, and earlier for some, so they need it.

I won't like losing my beautiful polished floorboards though, for cheap carpet and even cheaper underlay - but maybe a new kitchen is worth that sacrifice!

And the best bit of course, is I don't pay for it.

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 19-05-2025

Another lovely day ... no rain happened but a nice breeze to dry the washing on the line ... that used up a bit of energy that is currently lacking!

Much better today ... very weird to lose taste and I assume smell seeing as I never noticed the lawn soil tossed on with the seed ... the neighbour commented, lol! Actually another neighbour has just had a small truck deliver what I assume is garden soil ... that will create a bigger smell!

The day off school duties, so I'm just hanging around,  trying to limit the coughing ... something else that can get comments (of concern) from neighbours! There are distinct advantages with rural living!

A refurb sounds good OHH ... will you have to move out,  or do they work around you?

Time to summon up some more energy to haul the bin up the drive ... the nice soup has helped.

Enjoy the rest of the day.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 19-05-2025

They refurb an unoccupied unit, then move a tenant into that unit temporarily, redo their unit and move them back. Part of the cost apparently. I have asked if it can be worked, that I actually move villages, if a refurbed unit in the other village is available at the time - which might be possible, but we will see. I will be increasingly limited in my mobility as the spinal issues continue to degenerate, and the village closer to necessities - though not nearly as attractive as this one, would be a sensible move. And probably cheaper that making this unit disablity friendly down the track...

And I too need to take the bins up the drive. Thank heavens it is a dry day!

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 19-05-2025

The repaint is just internal at the old place. But if he messes around like he did doing the quote they will have a huge bill. Seems to be an influx of Filipino painters happening in the area.

Moving might be a good idea Hunni. And I know a lot of your garden is in pots so it will be easy to move all that too.

When they changed the carpet at the first house we had here the underlay was a bright Purple. lol. I took photos of it and sent it to friends saying look at the pretty colour carpet we got. They believed me lol. It was rather pretty but Id have hated living with it lol.

Had a lovely time at Dianne's. I totally forgot Paul doesn't like walnuts, so he has to pick them off lol.. Dianne sunk it into my brain tho, she said he has his own lol... that's going to stay in my mind for as long as I make him his fave biscuit lol.

I met their Girl dog Rox.. She is a American bulldog cross with a something mastiff, it will come to me.. She is huge. Has the bulldog feet that slightly turn out. Her eyes could freak you out. She barked when I arrived, but I held my hand out and let her sniff, so she was fine. Dianne was nearby. And before I left she was laying ion her back letting me give her tummy rubs.
They dont normally let anyone near their dogs, but since Jax had to be put to sleep a week ago they are giving Rox a bit more freedom.
I did feel honored.. and Dianne said she had never seen anyone not scared of dogs that they had never met.. I've never been scared of dogs.. I wouldn't want to try and get in if they weren't home and Id bet you wouldn't get out.

But I have less trust in those horrible little vicious Chihuahua's. We had acquaintances who had two and they were always competing for attention and were always scrapping. Nasty horrible excuses for a dog they were. Fanny had one too and I didnt like him either.

Dianne has an awesome lighted Magnifying glass on a stand. It was the first stand one I could actually see through. So Ill do some homework and see if I can find one the same. Came from Jr Cars or something like that. Dam Ill have to text her and ask again lol..

Finally got the form to get the bond back. And its back in the mail. So hopefully it wont take too long.

The Passionfruit is surviving, but I now have scratches on my leg cos I got to close to the spikey plant, succulent but sharp on the footpath.

Glad you had a good time visiting.

I loathe Chihuhua's too - vicious little sods.

A few years back there were 3-4 living just near the park & I was taking my previous dog for a walk one day when they got away from their minder, ( who was a proper dog) & all rushed out & started attacking my dog, obviously a group effort. I may possiby have sworn at them & their minder dog arrived & off they went.

They eventually must have died - nothing to do with the hex I may have wished on them, more old age & viciousness...& no longer terrrorise the entrance to the park.

Have to admit I've never met a nice one to be honest. Id never trust one.

Been trying to think of the name of Fannys one but cant for the life of me remember lol  Its two syllables tho cos I can hear her calling him.

Dingo but she called him Dinky... should have been drowned in the Sinky if you ask me lol

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 20-05-2025

Morning everyone

Clear as a bell here but very cool.

Lawnmowing man just arrived. Hope he sees the big rock by the passionfruit plant. Just told him. Id forgotten I padlock the gate so Ill have to either give him a key or make sure Im up early enough to unlock it. Oops.

Cant believe its a month today since I moved in. I think Im doing pretty good really.

General housework today.. I never knew Missy molted so much, bare floors mean the fur sort of blows around.

Its very easy to do nothing lol..

Kiwimade I think I remember you saying you have one of those Daylight Lamps. Is it a magnifier one too? Dianne has an awesome one, but the stands are out of stock at the mo. Im not sure if hers is a daylight one too.
I saw that spotlight have them, looking into them again. I dont mind makin an investment into my eye health lol.

Must phone Specsavers too and get booked in.. Perhaps with new glasses I wont need a magnifying glass lol.

Have a fab day all

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 20-05-2025

morning ladies Smile What a glorious day it is outside. It may be a tad chilly, but it is one of those perfect winter days.

My daylamp has a magnifying glass attached to it, popeye but I rarely use it. You can buy the free standing lamps or lamps you slide under your thighs. I prefer the free standing as the Furry One also likes to snuggle and we both shift our weight on the sofa. I would wait until you have had your eye exam.

Been to Hamilton early and done the shopping. We had a frost, and it was so cold hanging the washing out before I left. Came home and MrK was just having his breakfast lol.

We have a casserole on in the crockpot, it's that time of the year again Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - Jan - 20-05-2025

Breezy old day in the bay - beautiful out of the wind - just been back reading all the old posts yo7bdamn near gave me a heart attack Poppy - you HUNG Missy - my over active imagination thought she had got caught in a blind cord or something - then realised it was her picture!
Popeye paid for the repaint of your old house - it’s part of the rent and now the owners will be able to deduct the total cost of the repaint and what ever else they chose to do off their tax they would have to pay - it’s a win win for them
Went to Sanctuary mountain over Mother’s Day - my grandaughter went camping with her young brothers just what she needed after all the drama that had blown up over pay equity- so much of it is just rubbish - she is hoping the media apply for all the documents under Official Information act - interesting the email they received from Robertson in Sept 2023 advising them funding would not extend past June 2025 is dated the same day as the email that Robertson sent to Kiwirail advising the ferry funding woukd not be extended to cover the infrastructure. My grandaughter has been working very closely with James Shaw - some of her co graduates run a free community law clinic and he was instrumental in getting that off the ground - she became part of the advisory group on his recommendation- she is outspoken and very moral and I know if she says the procedure wasn’t working - well it was obvious to everybody it wasn’t even labour way back in 2023 - but she said it was just a gravy train - not only lawyers but Human Resources
Manager and Financial manager etc etc for the companies would turn up and multiple union delegates - all staying in 5 star accomodation courtesy of the tax payer .She is a real straight shooter - was interested to hear Hipkins interviewed on Newstalk where he was made to answer the question and admitted they would not go back trying to mount a case to prove in court a librarian should get paid the same as a fisheries officer - very hard to prove that
Anyway rant over Hunni - Sanctuary mountain is fantastic - I didn’t see the kakapo but the bush and the birds are being back in time - the kids absolutely loved it - they do night tours as well but I declined .My little foster grandson is too young for a phone but could see he was interested in taking photos - remembered I had a digital camera somewhere - of course it was in the last box I opened - what a mess - but the camera was such a success - here are a couple of his shots

They have a big block of native trees on their property - it’s only 25 mins from Tauranga I think - it’s just down the road from Arapuni dam or Awapuni - hopeless I am
Coffee calls - it’s going up again and Fonterra have another increase coming early June - they could start cutting big blocks like the Chinese are doing for Costco but I for one wouldn’t want to buy a big block of undated butter - I don’t use enough it would go rancid -

Yeah I did make it sound off, re Hanging Missy lol..

The Little Madam freaked me out this morning. I was moving stuff from my room into the spare, cos I wasn't enjoying going into my room. So now I have a nice room, even managed to hang a picture up over the head of the bed.

I was keeping up with keeping her out of the spare store room but she managed to get in there. But I had also taken some stuff out to the recycle bin.

She sauntered out despite me begging and getting very upset.. she was just having a nosey. I dont plan on having that room open often. Just enough to air it out.. I have taken my sewing machines from there to the sewing room too.

But I have to restore the sewing room too I thought she might have got under the desk so pulled things out.

The result, is pain, so I'm resting the bones.

Waiting to hear from Dianne re her biopsy results. Fingers crossed. She doesnt deserve any more cancer.

MrP grew up in Putaruru.

We lived there briefly before coming up here to Waiuku.

I would have loved to have lived in his parents house, it still had the coal range.

As far as I know the Orchard went and they built on the front half of the section.
