You can freeze butter... And cheese. In fact, occasionally i buy a block that cuts as if it has been frozen. I wouldn't be surprised...

But frankly, at $9 for 500 grams pass me the sunflower oil marge. It bakes quite well...

morning ladies Smile The sun is just starting to rise, the best part of the day, I think Smile

I also freeze butter and margarine. I also grate cheese, bag it, and freeze it. Milk as well. Decant a bit so the bottle doesn't burst and pop it in the freezer. Saves those trips into town when we run out of milk and when butter was on special, I would buy an extra one and freeze it. Not that we have butter now!

That was a great clip, OHH. Amazing how the plant clones itself. Just don't let politicians see it or they will want the same thing for themselves lol.

It's MrK's birthday today Smile And yesterday we had it confirmed he needs a hip replacement. Our doctor said he should go to the top of the list, but we don't see the orthopedics clinic until July. She has emailed saying how urgent it is, and we have fingers crossed he will have an earlier appointment. Not holding our breath though for that. Yesterday was the first time he had to use a wheelchair Sad

Has anyone done click and collect for their groceries? I think it's a great idea but allowing substitutions is my 'worry'. Do they pick the more expensive brands? I know you can tick the box to stop it but sometimes you just need an item. And when the $$$ are tight, it makes me wonder.

Coffee is finished, time to get moving.

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 21-05-2025

Good morning.

It's cool out there this morning.

I'm much better now,  just the cough to contend with.  It's Mr R's turn now as I see him go down the same symptom path plus sore throat!

I used 'click and collect' for the first time and thought it was brilliant. You can make notes on your items eg "just starting to go yellow bananas". My order was actually less than quoted but that could vary I'm sure.

That's a big event to consider KM, I hope the wait time is short.

Not a lot happening here, will get a big pot of vege soup on soon and consider baking peanut brownies.

Enjoy the day all.

Morning all
Overcast bright

KM I often used online shopping and as Roma says you can put a note in. On the whole I found it good they would phone eg asparagus  didn't look crisp did I still want it. Had one time thought I had ordered  1kg carrots but seems I only ordered one lol.

We had a lovely time away came home tired but happy.

Grocery shopping this morning and pack my bags for retreat tomorrow

Hope you have a speedy recovery Roma and that MrR not too bad..

Enjoy your day

Substitutions can be fun, usually the price remains the same but the quality can vary. They subsitituted my dozen eggs with a ten pack, same price one time, I let them know that didn't work, lol. But the system is a good one if you aren't well...

I was a fool yesterday. I had barriered the neighbours garden when I reseeded the lawn, with a very flimsy crossbar so the contractors wouldn't try to mow, and while admiring (?) my efforts another neighbour, an 80 year old man, casually lent on it and fell into the lawn as I watched. Watching someone fall is almost as heartstopping as doing it ourselves, and I feel so guilty. He scored cuts and bruises but was okay to walk up to his local docs for a check up, bit of bandaging, and then come back, so with luck no long term harm. We then sat in the sun with a rose from his wine collection and discussed the legal implications of him suing me for 2 million, so all's well. But oh, more evidence of my current stupid woman status!

And I have barriered the garden off with big pots instead. Unleanable big pots..

Oh, and the drunk driver is still not back from his holiday...

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 21-05-2025

Morning everyone

Its cool here. I have the heat pump on.. but not for much longer.

See if there is a cancelation list KM. Happy Birthday to MrK.

I freeze butter and marge. Used to freeze cheese when it was cheaper to be able to stock up. It can go crumbly but I learnt that way back in 1988 lol.
Its like having a pot of gold in the freezer... A friend has just tried stretching the Butter by mixing it with sunflower oil. She has baked with it and it was fine. And its spreadable straight from the fridge..

One MUST have real butter on crumpets lol

I will measure my rug and the hall today. Then I can look online at rugs..

Spoke to Dianne last night. She does have cancer again, the skin on her breast looks like Orange peel. She is having it removed in 2-3 weeks. apparently she cannot have the same chemo tablet as last time so she is worried about her hair. But otherwise we are all happy that it was found early. And as she said she has lived with one breast for so long she wont miss the second one. And anytime she sees the scars she knows she will be around for their sone and Grandchildren.
It took 35 people 45 minutes to decide the best course of action to treat her properly.

I didnt paint last night. Two long phone calls.. But I will today.

Have a wonderful day all

When it comes to losing part of my body, I am happy to give 35 people 45 minutes. I am pretty sure it took a lot longer to lose an ankle, though the hips were pretty quick once the x rays revealed their decrepitude.

Just so long as it isn't eyes, or brain, or hands... I need those, right till the end.

Exactly Hunni.

There was a man in the Home who had  The lower half of His left leg I think it was removed.. he started having
trouble with the right one and it had been brought up about the options.

He asked us at painting one day what we would do. And we both said the same thing.

Does having lost one leg make things hard, he said well I cant walk.. then we said so will it make any difference if you cant walk cos both legs are gone? He said your right.

And we said if it means no more pain isn't it worth it?

He liked our way of thinking.

He had it taken off, think it was just before Christmas... Sadly he passed away at the Start of March. But he had at least recovered and had a little while without pain.

His passing was unrelated to the leg problem.

Most of my life of health stuff has all been fixable by surgery.. Other than the diabetes, but that was as a result of surgery causing my hormones to have a tizz.

If its painful, or not working  get them to fix it or take it out.. We are after all given bits that are nearly of no use to us.
And why hang onto it  just for Beauties sake.

morning ladies Smile Another good frost to start the day is perfect for killing those blimmen flies.

Thanks for the info on click and collect, I suspect I will be using it more if MrK is going to be in and out of hospital.

Yesterday we were in Thames for his CT scan. It was a lovely drive over; the day was perfect, and it was an easy drive. Fish and chips at the wharf area for lunch and a fig and honey icecream to polish it off. In spite of the scan, mrK enjoyed his day Smile

The hip replacement is a big thing for him to consider but he's determined to have it if he can. He can't carry on the way he is and given the choice between his back and hip, he'd take hip any day.

Today I'm tackling the windows. The Karcher window vac will make short work of it. The spiders seem to have stopped ballooning so now's the time to get it done while the weather is nice.

Blimmen heck, the fog was just wisps a few minutes ago, now it's thick. And still people are driving without their lights on. The Darwin effect, I think.

RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 22-05-2025

Morning all
Mild nippy start  no frost as a bit of cloud.

Love  this board for the diverse snippets  about  interesting things.

Need to complete my packing before I leave for sewing retreat. Wokex at 5 am remembering I hadn't packed my tape measure got all the fancy gear and forgot a basic lol

Enjoy your day

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 22-05-2025

Morning everyone

I thought it was foggy but its wet windows. Don't know how to work the dvs thingee. So Ill charge the Karcher up. I haven't used it for quite a few years so hopefully it will still work.

Think I need to break out the polar fleece nighties now lol. I have the hotty. and Missy sleeps in my arms on my chest, and now under the blankets with her head out. Neither of us have our heads under blankets. I hate hot air.

Ill pop up the road but that wont take long. Gull has 16 cents off today, so Ill get some for my trip to the clinic next week.

Its a big opp Kiwimade. But apparently The knee replacement is harder to recover from. I dont see why since your whole body weight will still be on the hip. But it will hopefully make things easier, I suspect it will probably make him walk differently and possibly annoy his back until it settles, cos I know my knee did. Being prepared for changes mentally helps.

Have a fun time at the retreat Mica, I have a small tape measure I got from CWI years ago, in my handbag. You can also get small ones from Mitre10, cos Dianne carries one too lol.

Last night I was in a baking group on FB. A lady was showing off her latest acquisitions for baking. One being a super wide lifter for cakes. Like the silver things they use for scooping up chopped things with the handle on, Ill do photos later. But the best thing Im calling a Baking trowel.. Looks like a plasterers trowel, but its stainless steel and absolutely awesome for pressing mixes into swiss roll and square tins. It will make things sooo much easier and faster too.

David is flying to Napier today, its his birthday but he's going to check on his mum and they will join his sister for dinner. He should see some awesome sights will flying down.

Have a fab day all

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 22-05-2025

Hip ops are only difficult for about 24 hours, and the drugs take care of that. The hardest part is standing up the first time, partly because our minds tell us it's risky (it isn't) and partly because blood pressure drops and we go a bit wonky. But staff expect that, so so long as you don't do it without people to catch the wobbles you are fine.

The best thing about it is the relief from arthritic pain is immediate. And the surgical ache goes away fast. Remember I had my last one on Monday afternoon, woke up about 7pm, was walking on Tuesday, and discharged home on Wednesday, safely and happily able to look after myself, albeit with a crutch and moving slowly. Healing is very fast. They have this procedure down to a tee...

Hints? Track pants and go commando for a week or so, it's a big incision and comes with hardware. And if there's a loving wife around, lol, all the easier...

Oh, and the knee is harder because the incision goes over a bendy bit, on the hip it's just a straight line cut across flat acreage. Or in my case round acreage, lol., and now my seams match on both sides.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 22-05-2025

Thanks for that info, OHH, I'll pass it all on to MrK Big Grin

lol popeye, I've had a left handed tape measure for over thirty years. The rulers make a huge difference as well. And as for the pencil sharpener, that's a game changer!
