RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 11-06-2025

My triangles were Malabrigo and Rowan's Kidsilk. I love both yarns, they are a delight on the needles, and glorious to wear.

Perfect colour choice too. I'd wear that happily! Go nicely with my purple coat, lol...

I did something brave today. I called in to our local hairdresser and asked about getting my hair cut and restyled back into a short short cut. It has been so long I had no idea of the cost. She has a qualified first year hairdresser under her wing, and if I let her do it, twenty percent off the $120 cost.

Gulp.

But, it might be time. If I am brave enough to actually go through with it...

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 11-06-2025

I have no idea how much my hair was a couple of years ago Hunnie.

But it was a simple cut from long to shoulder length. No styling as such. And the colour that I could barely tell was there and assume is gone now..

Had a nice chat with David before. We are both teaching each other its ok to spoil ourselves and use stuff we have. I told him you ladies encourage me too.

He mentioned some silk or sating sheets but he heard me gulp.. He said He has no desire to iron those wrinkly dam things lol... have only slept in them once and swore off them.. But alas I have a silk or satin which ever it is duvet cover but its doesn't crinkle.. If I Had to iron it I too wouldn't have it. lol.

He thanked me for the linen I gave him. He uses it for the dogs.. But I did tell him the navy / dark blue towels were new, and he said he had just brought some new darker blue towels. I said they may need a wash they were just for display, never been used.

If I hadn't have given it to him I'd have taken it to the vets so all good.

Just paid for my Tupperware.. Told him about that too... Why buy something and then keep it for 50 plus years and never use it lol.. odd but It will be on display here.

Been texting with Dianne. She didnt go shopping. Im popping in to see her on my way to town tomorrow. She had a good relaxing day.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 12-06-2025

morning ladies Smile Another stormy day on its way. We had hail last night, no wonder the temperature dropped. In saying that, we didn't need the heat pump on all day and evening.

My hairdresser works from home. She has a wee salon set up in a small shed type building beside the house. Charges me $50 for a cut (takes an hour with lots of chatting Tongue ). My hair is cut from shoulder length to short(ish) so $120 to cut from long to short is reasonable. You could donate the long bits of your hair to the people who make wigs for cancer patients. Be brave! Have a change. It's only hair and will grow back. While you are there have it dyed a bright colour lol. Blue fades quickly though. Our daughter often has pink or blue and sometimes green hair Heart

Today the plan is to work on the hem of this hardanger. I'm hoping to have it done and dusted today, if not today, then tomorrow. It's 1.8m long and I have half of one side and a bit of the bottom (around 15cms) to stitch. A wet day is perfect for guilt free embroidery.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 12-06-2025

Good morning everyone

We had thunder over night. First time I have actually heard it in this house lol.

I didn't need the heating yesterday either, but then the oven was going for a couple of hours.

Im not brave enough with colours. I used to get my hair frosted tho, the rubber cap and crochet hook . Now you simply wouldn't see that in my mottled mess .

Bloods then Im popping to see Dianne on my way to Pukekohe for some shopping.

I realized this morning I haven't been out for a week.. That would drive 2 of my friends Nuts. Especially Fanny. She is hardly ever home.
To me that tells me she isn't happy at home.. Although on Monday I think it was, she was at her Neighbours all day. Cos she somehow managed to lock herself out at home, and the car leys were inside too. She hasn't told me how it happened.
But the guy didn't get to her place until 4pm and he had to break the window in the back door to be able to unlock the door.. I kinda figured her housing manager would have had a key... I Pity the neighbour.

Blardy Madam has a new thing.. While she usually shows me what she wants.. Now she takes me to the bedroom to open the curtain for her... Yes she can get between the curtain and window.. but Apparently she needs me to move the curtain for her daily. But its just as well she is cute lol.

Have a wonderful day everyone

Plumber coming this morning to lower the thermostat setting, then it is just waiting on the builder to check the roof and ceiling and I can relax again, and reorganise the adjusted space in those cupboards. And finish sorting the season change out in the wardrobe.

When I opened the curtains this morning the light was golden out there, and there was a rather damp kingfisher sitting on the wire gate to the reserve, surveying my bit of garden, so I told him how beautiful he was before he spread his wonderful feathers and flew off showing me all his colours. What a gift on a wet morning that was, our birds around here are a continuing joy.

As for the hair thing, I am still serious about doing it I think. And that cost seems reasonable considering the work. As for donating, would they want old lady hair? And colour? I might not be brave enough for that, though purple really is my colour, so perhaps a soft pinky lavender, lol...

Maybe one challenge at a time!

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 12-06-2025

lol popeye.  Like the Furry One insisting we open the back door so he can see if it is raining on that side of the house as well.

I've done the garden 'rounds' with the Furry One and spotted Albertine.  A climbing rose that flowers ONCE for six to eight weeks over spring and summer.  Silly tart of a rose is flowering again in the middle of winter.  Most of my roses are refusing to 'sleep' for winter and still have flowers.  The garden is so confused with climate change.

If you are going to colour your hair, then do it after the cut.  It's cheaper and if you spread the cut and then the colour out over two visits, easier to manage the $$$.  Not sure about them wanting 'old lady hair' lol but the hairdresser should know or at least point you in the right direction.  Older ladies have cancer too and your hair could be perfect for them.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 12-06-2025

Plumber's been, early bird. Him on his knees turning teeny screws, me tucked up in a warm bed watching and chatting. Oh being old has such advantages some days. Couple of hours and it'll be back to a safe hot 55 degrees and not quite so risky to wash my hands under the hot tap in the bathroom. Now I just need the builder - meantime I have my knitting and the Tatt on my lap. Life is good...

It might be worth waiting till spring, when it (hopefully) warms up a bit.

And that price - $120!

Cold as again & rainng as well, dammit.
Will have to put off any outing till next week at this rate but will take Madame le Dog for our short rainy day walk soon - before lunch so I'm hopefully warmed up by then.
Even Madame le Cat has come indoors, unusual for her so early.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 12-06-2025

Planted my tulip bulbs. The big fat ones in a spiral, with the babies in among them, all close together in a big green plastic pot so the winter sun won't cook them by over heating. Will get some low growing pretties next week to put in as a cover planting, maybe lobelia? And then tow the pot to a nice display point so we can watch for green spikes and then a riot of colours. My gardener neighbour came down to nosy, and asked if I wasn't a bit late for those - so pointed out that these beauties need a good few weeks in the fridge to spark growth, especially now we have climate change to deal with, no frosts up here to do the job.

And I did the email to the landlords along with copies of all the Mercury bills since I started with them. Hope they don't think my nice fat credit blance lets them off the hook, I've built that on purpose so I can survive the higher energy costs without the winter payment come next summer. So now we wait and see. The email was a doozy, some of my best work, creative writing wise. And I was respectful, but very definite about this debacle... Time will tell.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 12-06-2025

Fingers crossed for you Hunnie... I love getting Politely snarky and creative when I need to do Nice complaint letters lol

It was soo nice to see Dianne. She's a bit rough looking but considering what she has been through it expected. But we had our usual laughs and chats. And her dog Rox has decided Im a nice lady lol. She didnt bark. She happily Accepted a piece of shortbread and I even asked her where her treats were and to show me, so I gave her one of those too.

You can tell who still misses having a dog lol.

Shopping, what a Wash Out lol.. Alot of very full paddocks on the way. Got wet going into one oppy. But I did 4 in the end.. 3 Annabelle Langbein books.. Yay... Norty tho cos two of them were $8 each, but they look like new. The cheapest one was originally $35.. So I did well. The Pukekohe shops are dearer than my locals.

A good week shopping wise. Got the 350 gram packets of Premier Bacon pieces for $2-99 a packet.. Its nice bacon, so Illo break that down tomorrow.

Its funny cos I dont add things up to the last cent now, but I also dont go silly.

But I consider it a good week. Cheap shopping, saved some money, a few spoils and I have twice the amount in my purse than I had last week lol.

I got colder than I thought I was tho, cos my lunch was nice and hot. And I've been cold since getting the groceries..

Have my phone Drs appointment tomorrow. If its fine I may pop up to our oppies. But Ill see.

Hunnie did your neighbour say anything about the new lawn?

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 12-06-2025

Yes, thank you popeye. We have had good strike, except where my neighbour fell on it, but that might recover. Her nextdoor is quite happy, to the extent she invited herself in for a wine yesterday and brought chippies to munch, so I think I'm safe. The patch is very wet, but then everything is, but hrowth is continuing so come spring it should be strong enough for a first high cut by the contractors, under my eagle eye, lol.

Ohh Im so pleased.

Would have been rather ungrateful to complain about it.

My "Dead" Hydrangea is growing slowly. I nipped out and cut all the dead bits off it before David came up to do it. The Early cheer are hanging in there. Flowering away nicely.. I Hope I get One daffodil.

I have noticed a certain young Madam has been on the bench and chewing the leaves on the peace Lily.   I gave her the trust, which she abused, so when I go out Ill move it to the other side of the screen door I leave her behind when I go out. I could move the recycle box and leave it through there all the time I suppose.

Its blowing out, soo pleased Im not out there.

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 12-06-2025

Good luck with the landlords Hunni, hope they'll be reasonable.

Bought some Quorn vegan mince the other day & used some to do spag bol last night - OK, but not all that, so used a bit more tonight to make mince like our mothers used to make except I chucked all sorts of stuff in, & it was quite gooe, except a bit filling. Still have a bit left so may make it into fritters when I can be bothered.

Madame le Cat has also had enpough of the awful weather - she's retired to bed early & shows no sign of getting up again; can't say I blame her.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 12-06-2025

I add a bit of sweet chili sauce to just about everything these days, it is the ultimate rescuer from the ordinary in my kitchen. That and a bit of homemade satay sauce - which is a great way to use up the nearly empty peanut butter jar!

Recycled roast pork, vegies and brown rice tonight. I was a bit nonplussed when I realised I had picked up brown instead of white, but it's quite nice, even with the need to cook it for so much longer...

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 13-06-2025

morning ladies Smile And we have another wet day, typical Field Days weather Tongue

We use sweet chilli sauce a lot as well as mango and apricot. Both delicious with pork and chicken.

Housework for me today, it doesn't take long to do. I really need to vacuum as there are small cut threads from the hardanger scattered through the house. You can see where I sit lol. I will finish it today, only have to hem around a corner and trim the excess fabric.

There is definitely a critter of some sort living under the house. The Furry One has been out at night barking for two nights in a row now and is constantly sniffing around the house during the day. Looks like the rat trap will have to be set again. I know it's not the neighbour's cat as she is indoors at night. Just hope it's not a stoat or weasel. They are vicious and the Furry One isn't as young as he used to be. Another reason to sort through with MrK his stuff against another side of the house as they often hide there.

Time to make a start on the housework, the sooner I start the sooner it's done.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 13-06-2025

Morning everyone

Had sun and rain already lol. A little chilly.

Those terriers dont give up do they Kiwimade.

Once Im dressed and had my Drs appointment Im going to dust and put my new books on the shelves. And move a couple of things around on the shelves.. Ill enjoy doing that. Ill vacuum on the weekend..

Paul is popping in for their parcel that arrived yesterday. Something for the boat apparently. .. The downside of trade me is when you live rural you pay for it dearly.

Dianne showed me some of her recent diamond painting.. Big ones.. They are beautiful. She has a steady hand cos they are very even in the layout.. So many people and Fanny is one of them seem to think its a race and they end up messy.

I must get my black paint out and paint around the border of the Beautiful Butterfly she did for me. Oddly Im not a butterfly person, other than Monarchs.. and its also in purples and mauves, which are not my fave either. but it is very pretty.

Have a fab day in what ever you do today.

RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 13-06-2025

Morning all
Damp dull day like yesterday

Like thexsound of your plantings OHH.

Good thatvyou have the FurryvOne alert that something is under your house KM.

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 13-06-2025

Good morning.

The sun is out and I was cooked by the time I got home from walking GD to school ... maybe GD was right in shorts and crocs (no use suggesting additional layers, lol)! Yet to decide whether clothes on the line or a rack though  Undecided

Got to love (not always) the persistence of a terrier!

Good to be able to repurpose merinos Mica.

Will need a few groceries and then the day is mine.

Enjoy the day all.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 13-06-2025

Nope, popeye, terriers don't give up. They are stubborn as heck lol.

Lobelias are gorgeous, the deep blue are my favourite. Done the garden 'rounds' with the Furry One and not so much sniffing around the edges of the house this morning. The weeds are happily growing thanks to the rain and plants I thought were duds, are flowering, so obviously winter plants Heart And that yellow disc thing in the sky is out. Might take a chance and hang washing outside.
