RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 26-06-2025 Gorgeous patterns, mica ![]() MrK is fine, it did give him a fright though and he has agreed to wear an alarm. We think he was sitting on the bed and went to shuffle up towards his pillow and missed the bed. Luckily no harm was done. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 26-06-2025 It is very frightening, especially when we realise we have to find a way to get up... I have a yen to make one of those casual blanket jackets, with the blanket stitch edging. I keep seeing beautiful blankets that remind me of the ones we use to snuggle under, and I get all nostalgic. It couldn't be too hard surely to work out a simple pattern... RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 27-06-2025 morning ladies ![]() One of those blanket jackets would be lovely and snuggly, OHH. I shouted myself a pair of slippers made from that type of fabric from a well advertised slipper and bag NZ website on FB. They are super cosy and along with my merino socks, my toes are toasty. They cost a small fortune but with a good sole, they will last for years. Pink, orange and blue slippers worn with orange, red, yellow, green and blue spotty socks lol. Can see me coming a mile off ![]() Housework for me today, it won't take long to do and then hopefully I can be outside. Might move a bit more sand into the bins. It has almost gone, less than a third to go. Then a bit more work on the seahorse maybe. Might make a start now my coffee has finished. RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 27-06-2025 Morning everyone Shes a blustery old day out. Glad I dont have to go out in it. I cant do slippers or socks for long.. I hate hot feet lol.., but in places like hospital I wear those horrible non slippy ones cos of their floors. and I kinda hope they help prevent bugs from the floors. I have a couple of calls to make today. My games and then I will make myself do something. Sitting watching tv is a waste of time and I have all manner of things I could do, just very little motivation. Yeah Im too am glad you dont have those trees Kiwimade.. Thankfully my fruit trees are all away from the house. The grapefruit are breaking the thinner limbs off the tree. Stay safe, warm and dry everyone RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 27-06-2025 Morning all Raining absolutely no wind Blanket coats are all the rage OHH there are a few no waste patterns available using them I am falling to bits lost half my eye tooth last night while eating a nice piece crumbled fish goodness knows when I will get dentist appointment. Havexraken a photo and emailed for an appointment. Doing another stint at warehouse today covering for person who is off on holiday. No firm plans for the afternoon Enjoy your day RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 27-06-2025 What a rough and tumble night, and now day out there. The trees are dancing and their last leaves losing their grip. I sometimes think that is why we get these storms at this time of year, mama nature doing her housework, and giving the dirt a nice big drink at the same time. Lots of wet, but no flooding so far on our flow paths, so the heavy stuff might still be coming. Tatty was keen to see what was what so we stood on the doormats and checked it out, but neither of us ventured much further. The garden is enjoying it though, I could hear the whispering. I like the idea of your slippers and socks k m, you would smile at my Snags collection. I am especially proud of the yellow tights with black skulls, though the red ones with bats are great fun too. A little touch of pure silliness makes life so much more interesting, and there is a little burst of pleasure to be had from choosing the maddest combination from my excellent sock or tights collection. Winter should be a time for the brights. I found a couple of good tutorials for the blanket jackets last night, and even one for a sleeveless version which could be a good test piece. This just might be a good project, we shall see. RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 27-06-2025 Only the dishes to do when MrK has had his breakfast and the kitchen floor to mop. lol love the sound of your tights, OHH ![]() The wind is becoming stronger, and the rain has hit us. I heard on the radio quite a few businesses are telling staff to work from home today because of the storm. Sensible when the job can be done without the worry of driving into work. My sister finds she gets more done from home too as there are fewer interruptions. Handy when she has big reports to write. RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 27-06-2025 Cold & rainy here so made a pot of Pumpkin soup after Madame le Dog & I braved the elements for the compulsory walk; we did the rainy day special as its slightly shorter. Friday Funny posted over in General discussion, & I added a fairly oldish joke I found on FB because it made me laugh again. RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 28-06-2025 morning ladies ![]() Nothing specific planned for today, the loppers and secateurs are good to go for pruning roses, but I need fine, still, days for that. I might have an online search for large garden pots to plant hydrangeas in for the south side of the house. Might as well start looking ![]() The Furry One is pestering me to play. He's so persistent lol. Just as well we love him to bits. RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 28-06-2025 Morning all Bit blue sky trying to push through Looked after DGS and DGD2 yesterday afternoon. Bathrooms and floors this morning then need to get baby quilt done DD needs to gift it next Wednesday. Got dentist appointment early next Wednesday my dentist doesn't usually work on Wednesday but coming in to sort me out. He is retiring in August so on look out for new one a bit closer to home. Need to move Enjoy your day and keep dry RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 28-06-2025 I found those softer plastic carry tubs make really good planters, especially if you can add a few chunks of polystyrene to the base before filling for drainage. They are easy to puncture to add holes and come in some lovely mad colours, so I can go quiet or loud depending on what I put in them. Surprisingly, they seem to be uv stable too and don't get brittle after a few years outside, not something we can say about some plastics. I have even used one as a garden edging by cutting it up into strips so I could keep a mulch where it should be despite the determined efforts of my favourite blackbird... RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 28-06-2025 That's a great tip, thank you, OHH ![]() The wind is back and it's freezing. MrK is worried about the fence, but I have faith in the bracing I did over Easter. It has survived three huge storms now ![]() RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 28-06-2025 Morning everyone Has certainly been some wild weather. Have a school friend in / near Nelson and Blenheim. They have a little creak at the lowest part of their property but are fine. Their Daughter and hubby had both been away, cars were at an airport down there. He convinced her to drive them home. They are ok.. not sure about the cars.. The daughter was angry he had convinced her to drive it.. Id be more angry at myself for giving in. She wont forget it tho. So he wont either Im guessing. I dont have plans other than nipping up for some rice. Pak n save dont have short grained rice, and I didn't go to New world. So Ill get that and some extra drink as I wont shop until Friday this coming week, on my way home from the Orthopedic check up. I was thinking the appointment at 8-45 would be a pain for traffic and school, but then realized school is out.. Yay.. So it should be quite easy to get there. Did quite a bit of painting yesterday, the first Ostrich is taking shape. Having the white board near me means I actually see what needs doing and make me think Yup I have a few minutes I can get that off the list. Have a good day all RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 28-06-2025 Heard from the Nelson contingent, grandddaughter & partner fine, DIL & her partner not so much, but mostly just wet & in need of drying out so really good. The creek down the back managed a bit of chaos in their worlshop but drying out will sort it all. Cold & overcast here so can't do anything outside again dammit. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 28-06-2025 One of those typical Auckland days where sun and clouds chase each other out to sea but my To Do list has been shortened by one long standing task. I have no full length mirror so ordered a tall thin one (who am I kidding, lol) from kmart and it duly arrived, perfect. Very lightweight. And sat in the corner waiting for me to find the right place for it. Opposite the open bathroom door where I can see myself nude was definitely NOT the right place. So today I finally found the picture wire and the teeny screwdrivers and reworked the hanging mechanism it came with and it is hanging on the inside of the hot water cupboard door, in detention for being so cruel, but available so I can check I haven't forgotten something important before I go out in public. After all, you never know... RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 28-06-2025 (28-06-2025, 02:10 PM)Oh_hunnihunni Wrote: One of those typical Auckland days where sun and clouds chase each other out to sea but my To Do list has been shortened by one long standing task. And sat in the corner waiting for me to find the right place for it. Opposite the open bathroom door where I can see myself nude was definitely NOT the right place. I think most mirrors have unfounded weird senses of humour. I do however have 5 in this house. Two in the bathroom, one being full length and opposite the bath / shower. The other over the handbasin that you would have to stand at the end of if you wanted to see in it. I have a full length in my room, there's a big one on the mantle piece in the spare room and a very old round one in there somewhere. The only time I look in them is when combing my sparce hair, and last thing before I walk out the door lol... Its not that I dont like them, I just think I could live without them quite happily lol. I wouldn't miss them. My hair is so thin that a gentle breeze messes it up anyway. I went and got the rice.. and managed to get some gurnard and orange roughy.. Haven't had that in many longs. Then decided I should probably use the eggs I've had since prior to moving in.. Yep they were ok.. And I had milk I knew wouldn't get used if I made rice.. So I made a steamed pudding instead. Oh and while we are talking about Milk... when did that go up? I looked today and it was $4-48 for 2 liter's... Ill stick to buying long-life at Pak n Save for $2-09 a liter. And why does Liter look strange, I normally spell it Litre and even that is odd today.. Having a senior blonde moment me thinks And Dianne has kidney stones again. They are finally going to Zap them for her.. When it rains it pours.. Nah, managed all these years without a full length mirror so can manage without - the shock would probably be too much anyway! The sun came out,so chanced hanging out washing & to be fair it stayed reasonably sunny for an entire hour when it clouded over & got colder. Brought it in. Then the sodding sun came out, didn't it. Blardy weather. ![]() (28-06-2025, 03:11 PM)popeye333 Wrote:(28-06-2025, 02:10 PM)Oh_hunnihunni Wrote: One of those typical Auckland days where sun and clouds chase each other out to sea but my To Do list has been shortened by one long standing task. Yep, two 2 litres were $9 last time. So I spoke to Madame le Cat about her milk habit, pointed out that there simply isn't room for a cow & milk is now quite expensive, despite this country being a high dairy farming country. She gave me a special cross eyed look... ![]() Its a very lucky thing that cats can't speak, I'm fairly sure she could swear like a sailor.. Might be cheaper to buy cat milk and water it down some. Missy has never liked milk that I can remember so she doesn't get it. I trained people if they want different milk they bring their own. My BIL doesn't like skinny milk so brings dark blue. Im washing tomorrow no matter what the weather is doing. We have had some sun this afternoon RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 28-06-2025 I used a couple more power shout hours and threw the washing in the drier today. It's still cold so the heat pump is on. I have two big mirrors behind MrK's set of draws and they both need framing and hanging. Eventually one will go into the bathroom and the other possibly sold. But I saw a gorgeous art deco style mirror the other day and am wondering if the two could be merged to make one similar. Might need to have a chat to our friendly timber merchant who also happens to be a cabinet maker. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 28-06-2025 I buy a kilo of low fat or skimmed milk for around $12 . It lasts me a month. I have a couple of glass milk bottles with plastic lids and I make up one of those every couple of days, so about 850 mls? Maybe? Five tablespoons of powder to a bottle of water, lid on, shake, and into the fridge. So maybe 35 grams of powder, is that about right? Let's say 40... So, 30 odd days ÷ 2 x 40 grams plus the odd extra bottles on days when I bake or make porridge (I go all milk, no water) or sauces... Yup, that's about right, a kilo a month. And I don't have to lug all that water home from the shop, and I can use non chlorinated water if I have prepped some., which is why I started doing it when I came back to the city after years in Blenheim. Auckland water tastes awful after their tap supplied pristine glacier melt champagne.. And I cannot tell the difference between bottled milk and mine. It's not a very 'green' choice, considering the processing and energy costs to produce the stuff, but it certainly beats buying whole milk on budget... |
