RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 26-07-2025 Good morning. Not nearly as cold this morning, sky is blue but cloudy. Have had a rain shower so there may be more I'm picking. Busy outside yesterday and an appointment during the afternoon. We discovered a new Garden Centre with a Cafe in another suburb ... will be back, great coffee and cabinet treats and an attractive nursery layout. I might have succumbed to a small bird bath which I have been looking out for to replace the ugly, old cracked one we inherited here. No plan for the day apart from birthday afternoon tea for 6yo GD. Enjoy the day all. RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 26-07-2025 Morning everyone Dull and grey here. Cold too I have reheated the hottie and have a hat on. it will be enough. Im not a fan of having the heating on in the morning. Talking of that the heat pump worked last night. We decided it was Male having a tanty lol. Glad MrK is a do as you are advised type man. MrP wasn't, and he would have blamed everyone else. Missy is ever hopeful and sitting in the bedroom window. She might get a snippet of sun. Im going to paint today, Ive had a couple of days off. Thinking I have enough lettuce I might have a summer meal. lol Schnitzel and salad. Saw a recipe for an unbaked lemon slice yesterday. So tomorrow Ill make two, one lemon and one fudge. And as Paul dropped massive hints as in, "time to make a lemon meringue pie" when he saw the lemons, Ill make one of those too. He can pick it up on his way home on Monday lol. Have a fab day all RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 26-07-2025 I'm finally catching up with those garden jobs that have been waiting forever for me to do ![]() RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 27-07-2025 morning ladies ![]() Not a lot happening here today, things have been caught up in the garden. Only a bossy plant to divide and replant. I'll text our neighbour to see if they still want the firewood I have piled up. If not, someone in the community will want it. Once the bins have been emptied next week, I can cut the rose cuttings into small bits and bin them. Other than that, it will be a quiet, cruisey day. I'm still working on the seahorse but finding it hard to motivate myself to get it done. I've had an idea how to stitch our family tree, that could be why lol. Coffee is finished, I swear I only filled it a minute ago lol. I'm off to divide that plant before the rain arrives. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 27-07-2025 Opting to do the coat project last week put my knitting on hold and now I don't want to go on with it, so I understand exactly that feeling km. I will give it a few days and see. Meantime I popped some rejected lettuce seedlings into a big terracotta bowl and they seem to be happier there. Till I start tearing their leaves off and eating them up... The birds are lining up to glare at me, the apple is just skin and bone. Those tiny feathery things are bullies, but they'll have to wait! RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 27-07-2025 Morning all Cloudy so no frost today. Got quilt top sewn together now need to find fabric to back it. K9 walked just waiting fir DH to get home to have a coffee. Need to look for fabric to make DGD1 a dressing gown will go to SL tomorrow try to avoid weekend visits. Did get some knitting done last night 4 rounds its going to take forever 5ply on size 3 needles might speed up once I get to armholes and only have back and front on the cable. A quiet day here Enjoy your day RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 27-07-2025 Morning everyone The sun is out, not too cold tho I have washing on while I have my breakfast. I struggle if I try and do too many crafts at once. So I try not to have more than one at a time. I didnt paint yesterday, will later today tho. Im going to make a couple of slices at some stage, although Im thinking one at a time would be better. But If I do make two Ill send some home with the lemon Meringue pie tomorrow, If I get that made. I enjoyed my salad last night. Crumbed a lamb chop while I did the schnitzel, so Ill have that tonight. Have a fab day everyone RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 27-07-2025 I love my stainless steel cookware but have been seriously tempted by the cast iron pieces in the latest New World promotion. Being a singleton collecting stickers takes a long time but a friend recently handed over all of her collection so I was able to indulge in the smaller of the open bakers, and last night I made toad in the hole in that baker as a test. Boy, I am impressed. Non stick, even heat, will be so easy to clean - once I have demolished the other half tonight, might have another kitchen love on my shelves... RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 27-07-2025 Good morning. Sunny and mild ... a nice change for first thing in the morning. A few necessary food items obtained and baking to do after my coffee. Might bake a lemon/yogurt cake with plentiful lemons on hand. Then time outside. Vest finished, just need to sew together. Plan to crochet some hair bun covers for the long hair in the family next. I used to make them for my daughter way back, lol. Yesterday I trialed a hair tie scrunchie with some cotton fabric remnants, so a few more of them on the cards, seeing the sewing machine out. OHH do your fruit pieces for the birds sit on a tray or do you skewer them somehow? Sick of them been picked up and dropped on the ground, possibly by bigger birds ![]() Coffee finished, time to make the most of the day. RE: You can never have enough... - GJW - 27-07-2025 OHH, i use cast iron alot, mine are not enameled, bar one frypan, i love it. I still have stainless. But use the cast far more. Only problem I find is now I am old!!! The wrists and hands have arthritis, they are heavy, and I have induction hobs, so have to be extra careful and use two hands, but cast is so versatile. Hope you can add to your collection. RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 27-07-2025 I got that small NW baking dish today, good to have a smaller sized dish. RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 27-07-2025 I was going to save the stickers and give them away. Then David asked if I would like his, I still dont have them. Im hoping to get the smaller baking dish too. I sold my cast iron stuff, as much as I loved it its far too heavy for me. And I had a glass cooktop at the time. Must remind the lad and pick them up and see how many I have lol RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 27-07-2025 (27-07-2025, 10:27 AM)GJW Wrote: OHH, i use cast iron alot, mine are not enameled, bar one frypan, i love it. Oh, I know that feeling - door handles are hard to open now, among other things but slowly working out the best way to cope with each new thing which decides to now be difficult. There may possibly be some swearing involved... ![]() RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 27-07-2025 I loveeeeee our cast iron pans. We have five of them and our electric frying pan is stainless. Two are too big for us now so might offer them to our daughter. One of the two belonged to MrK's parents so will be around 100 years old now and still going strong. Our cooktop has always been a glass one so have learnt to be careful when putting them down. We scored our son's cast iron pan (we bought it for his birthday a few years ago) when he moved to Perth. It had been neglected (grrrr) but came up nice again easily enough. I wouldn't cook with anything else. That stubborn plant was harder to dig out than Albertine. But it is done, divided and replanted along with another plant I spotted. And a shepherd's pie has been made from the left over lamb roast we had the other night. A roast is good value for us, we can get several meals out of it and if need be, freeze some. Not this time though lol, it was a small leg and absolutely delicious. We *might* have been guilty of standing at the kitchen bench and picking away at it ![]() RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 27-07-2025 Roma, I peel my whole fruit a bit - apples and oranges mostly, so the little beaks can penetrate and get the good stuff, then squeeze the whole fruit into an older plastic handled whisk, the wires hold the fruit steady and provide perching space, then hang the whole thing in my bare peach tree, so I can watch... This is this mornings contribution, as you can see already getting pecked... https://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/2234341473.jpg My sticker rich girlfriend is adventuring abroad tomorrow and will be hunting down the covered cast iron pan in the collection on my behalf. Despite me swearing blind I would not indulge in such extravagance, I think I just might if she can find one. After all, it is only money, lol. And yes, I am very aware of the substantial weight of these, but I am also considering investing in one of those benchtop ovens, because my standard floor model is going to be a pain as I become more decrepit and logic suggests a smaller more accessible alternative might be sensible. Specially seeing I really enjoy oven cooked food and don't intend giving that pursuit up any time soon. But we shall see! RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 27-07-2025 Managed another go at the ivy earlier & then a bit more on painting & then washing, quite pleased sheets don't need doing till next week. Hoping to get the rest of the Lavender done either today or tomorrow with any sort of luck. RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 27-07-2025 I admit that large cast iron piece is truly wonderful. But I doubt Ill end up with that. I even struggle with the 6 liter slow cooker, when I've done my rice, it gets easier as I eat it down lol Washing was hung out and soo nice bringing air dried washing in. Even if Madam thinks its odd. I guess she doesn't remember me doing it when she was younger. I couldn't decide which slice to make so I did both in the end. I cut the chocolate one smaller cos its rich. But the lemon one is very yummy. I couldn't find the recipe I thought I saved, but already had one in my hand written book anyway. Pleased to report my lemons have good mostly unmessy zest and the plenty of juice. Probably not as much as Davids when it comes to juice but the skin on his are horrible. May make the lemon meringue pie tomorrow and Paul can pick it up on Tuesday. I have a couple of things I need to do first tho, repot the peace lily since I did a disgusting job the first time. And I need to sort out the hot water cupboard. Its tiny and I need to get on the step stool to sort the top out so I can put more than half a dozen things on the bottom shelf. I was spoilt at the other house it had a double width hotwater cupboard and the tank was off to the side. We used to have an awesome cast iron frying pan which I always used on the BBQ for Onions. Cos I dont like onions on the bbq tainting everything. But we leant it to St Johns for fundraising and it came back minus the pan. Right need to have a quick look on FB apparently the sirens went before with cops flying into town. someone will have put it up. RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 28-07-2025 morning ladies ![]() We also have a cast iron pan for frying onions, refried spuds and the like on the BBQ lol. It's too big for our oven top but perfect for the BBQ. I also use our cast iron pans on the little gas cooker when we have power cuts. It looks like we're going to have an 'indoor' day so might give the door frames and skirting boards a once over. The front porch is housing spiders, and they need evicting again. Persistent little buggars lol. Although there may not be that many left after the swallows were ducking and diving under the eves the other day. That was something to see close up. This afternoon I'll have a tutu with my family tree idea and see where it leads. Better get cracking and make the most of a calm morning ![]() RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 28-07-2025 Morning all Mild temps this morning told DH to make the most of it as lull before more wetness and wind. Started quilting vyesterday and realized that I hadn't sewn on the borders. Too late now ![]() Lovely BBQ chicken and baked potatoes last night for dinner. It will be chicken for dinner for at least another couple of nights. Slowly making progress on my knitting you will hear me cheer when I get to under xarms and can try it on I really hope it fits. K9 fitting into our routine the feline is thawing slowly. Enjoy your day RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 28-07-2025 Good morning. Cloudy but not so cold to need heating on. Glad to not need the brolly on school run, as there's wind building up. I use a cast iron pan for frying on the cook top, the best for meat. The NW cookware is stoneware, only the big pan cast iron. ... I might aim for the utensil container next. Good to read K9 is settling in so well Mica. They are a good incentive for walking for sure ... rain, hail or shine! Baking today, that I never got done yesterday, the next few days are looking wet. Enjoy the day all. |
