RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 01-09-2025

Good morning everyone

Sunny but cool here. Still the odd windy draft.

Its a stunning piece of work KM.. Often I see hardanger and crochet doilies in the opp shops etc and wish more people would use them Not only do they protect furniture, they make things looks far nicer. I have a larger cotton serviette on the coffee table with a bit of holey lace on one corner. On the dark wood it highlights the stuff I have sitting on it. When the table is painted Ill put something red underneath it and still use the serviette.

Madam is in the sun as usual

I may vacuum since I didn't yesterday lol.. a woman is coming to prune the grapes. Im not going out to watch. Id freeze.

Didn't win the induction element. Can still get them through Kmart. Im looking at a small oven too. I wrote the measurements down late last night so Ill see if I can figure out where it may sit.

Game day so I dont think Ill get any painting done.

My parcel is out for delivery so Ill be washing the fridge tomorrow and then the shelf covers will go on the last shelf and save myself work.

Have a fab day all

Love that piece km... I can see the complexity of it, good eyes required!

Funny thing re the season, the two peach trees separated by about twenty feet - mine the older, buds starting to swell but no colour, the other with buds opening already - too late for a copper spray there. I'll have to remember next year to do that one a few weeks earlier than the older one. It must be warmer over there, more sun perhaps...

Speaking of doilies and other lace things - I remember my mother having antimacassar cloths on the furniture.

Now there's a lovely old fashioned word!

Yesterday I noticed one of our little South Pacific iris' is in flower.  So early Heart but no complaints here.  And our burgundy magnolia is beginning to bloom as well.  Can't wait for the new magnolia to bloom but it's a little later in the spring season.  We planned it so one finishes flowering and the other begins.

Our son phoned yesterday to tell us more town houses are being built around them and there is one 'hold out' in the block.  He was laughing when he told us, the property owner had painted 'fu** off, I'm NOT selling' in huge letters on his fence.  He obviously was getting sick of developers asking to buy his property lol.  Imagine that being painted on a fence here lol.  Son is also really excited about his upcoming trip to Japan.

I've finished the hardanger piece and am happy with it overall.  A few mistakes but that's OK.  I'll take a pic later and post it.  Today I'll cut out and overlock some fabric, wind the new threads onto bobbins for this cross stitch and maybe even start it.  I can do that while MrK's PC is here later this morning. She is an absolute godsend.

Time to put the steroids into the Furry One's ears.  He hates it but needs must.

Brilliant, kudos to that home owner! Big Grin Big Grin

That's lovley KM, must have been hard on the eyes, all that fine work, well done.

Eldest granddaughter lives rurally so any parcels she has sent here & picks them up. One arrived earlier so sent message, said quite heavy & is it books?

So she replies no don't get excited, not books. but can I please have this book for my birthday this year? Ara, Hinempa Elder. Looks interesting, might have to read it (very carefully) before I give it to her.  Rolleyes

Sun has just come out, might dry the washing with any luck.

Beautiful work KM, you are such a clever lady. I don't think I would have the patience to do that.

I know that one off by heart, mad cow disease. So my dh couldn't donate blood here having been raised in the UK when ag practices led to the epidemic... Funny though, it didn't stop them accepting organ donations after he died.

Funny how they work eh.. I think they have relaxed the donating blood thing now or maybe just some years. I ahve a Scottish friend in Wellington who couldnt donate either.

CJD humans and BSE ( bovine spingiform encephalitis)  in cattle caused by prions. The officials in UK were very slow in their reactions despite warning from highly qualified people some of whom had studied the epidemiology  of the disease in the brain eating people of New Guinea

What a fantastic word, Practica! Thank you, ladies Smile it wasn't as hard to do as it looks. Hardanger is simply repetitive stitching and only needs time and patience.

lol, Lilith. We said the same thing about the fence signage. You go mate, you do you and tell them how you really feel about developers.

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 01-09-2025

Had to go & look it up,didn't I. And Antimacaassar comes from anti (against) & oddly enough (!) Macassar, from Macassar oil, a hair tonic which was popular at one time with men to use on their hair, so the antimacaassar protected furniture from bloke's hair oil.

Went into Whitcoulls to pick up Listener - like an idiot I browsed books first, so now I'll have to go back at some point, having spotted a board book which will do for newest great granddaughter for xmas.

Very interesting article in Listener; it seems some people who are very overweight have different gut bacteria to those who are leaner, & they can be helped with a 'faecal transplant', aka 'poo pill' which sounds bizzare, but is apparently really effective.

I tried to donate blood years ago, but they wouldn't let me, said i didn't weigh enough. I was in my early 20's & about 7 stone. Then years later I'd had infectious hepatitis so couldn't donate - & now, I'm too old.

Ohh My little heart is a flutter.. the Knobs look Lovely, well I think so and that's all the matters really lol

https://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/2244658696.jpg

I have another but TM wont let me upload it.. Do they have more silly rules I haven't noticed?

I haven't been out to see the grapevine. Ill look another day.

I've had a very lazy day, down the Christmas shopping temu hole and did my games.

Also caught up with another girl I went to school with who was wondering if I knew one of the school Hunks.. Umm Nope and I reminded her I liked the teacher's not the boys lol Asked Gayle she didn't remember him either.

I do remember one of the better looking ones tho, cos it used to majorly upset a lot of the " in " girls, cos the guy and I used to have soo much fun together, especially in Science and Book Keeping. Maybe cos I just liked him as a boy, I wasn't after his body lol.

Was nice tripping down memory lane for a while tho.

I donated for decades, and then one visit I got pulled into an office to give a full medical history again - had done one a couple of years earlier, and got told because I was B12 deficient I couldn't donate any more. Weird I thought cos they'd had that in their records for years... But okay, rules change I guess...

Pity because I am B Rh neg and they need that type quite often.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 01-09-2025

I cant donate either cos of the warfarin.

But I totally appreciate those who can.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 02-09-2025

Warmer days, but even so I went looking for another layer in the middle of the night. Somehow I just can't get it right at the moment. Probably my own body temp regulators feeling their age. A beautiful pink tulip opened yesterday, it sings out there in the courtyard, lights the whole space up. The best thing is I suspect the other buds are similar colours. If so I shall be feeding them up for next years pot, they are glorious. Another reason to trust surprise packages from NZ Bulbs, they never disappoint. Their lilies are gorgeous too.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 02-09-2025

morning ladies Smile I think we're in for more rain. Fingers crossed for some fine spells so I can get the washing dry outside.

Not a lot is happening here today, just the usual routines. Yesterday I finished weeding one garden, but the southerly was getting stronger and colder, so I finished up for the day. The little tete-a-tete daffs I planted under a sign are flowering and look very pretty. Once they have finished, I'll spread them out to circle the post for next spring. I've lost another daisy to frost and have decided no more of those in the garden. One of my sisters-in-law is coming for a cuppa on Thursday so I might dig the rose 'Legacy' up and put her in a pot. She can take it back to Rotorua for one of MrK's other sisters who wants it for her garden. I'll then have space for the Austin "Litchfield Angel'' I fell in love with in April. We swap a lot of plants between the three of us lol.

Weather permitting it will be more weeding today. If I can get ahead of them seeding, it will be less weeding over summer. If it rains, the oven needs a good clean... sigh. I hate cleaning the oven but at least this one is pretty easy to do. I can even take the glass out of the door to clean.

The Furry One is nagging for me to lift him up onto the bed to snuggle with MrK. He can no longer jump up onto the bed and expects his servant to lift him regardless of what time it is in the morning. It could be 3.00am or now.

Morning everyone Grey but sun today, its getting darker tho so maybe the rain is close.

One of Robynn's bulbs in a pot is flowering, A Daffodil..

Ill nip up the road at some stage. I've run out of apples. Might go to the fruit shop tho the supermarket is on average $3 more a kilo than Pak n save. Ill go to pns on Thursday.

Might pop into the oppies on the egg beater hunt.

Then Ill clean the fridge and put my new liners on the middle shelf. MrP hated how I had the fridge. Even if there wasn't a light everything in my fridge has sat in the same spot for 30 plus years.. Why change it? Mind you he also didn't like that Im a leveler.. margarine, vegemite they have to be level in their containers. Why have it messy

Geeze that makes me sound odd but Ive always liked it that way and a good way to know when you will need new ones lol

Have a wonderful day everyone

A bit of ocd in everyone I think. The flat opposite me is empty, and some flaming idiot has left the blinds - three of them - level, but the fourth one all the way up. It drives me so nuts I have to be careful not to look at them. So you are not alone popeye... Rolleyes
