Elections in France - Lilith7 - 12-04-2022

It isn't looking so good for Macron, with the extreme right having done so well in the first round. So bad in fact that even the French communist, socialist, Green & conservative candidates have now given him their backing so as to keep Marine Le Pen & her merry band of complete bastards out.

"In a boost for the president, Communist Party candidate Fabien Roussel, Socialist Anne Hidalgo, Yannick Jadot of the Greens and right-wing Les Républicains candidate Valérie Pécresse said they would vote for him to prevent the far-right leader coming to power.

“So that France does not fall into hatred of all against all, I solemnly call on you to vote on April 24 against the far-right of Marine Le Pen,” Hidalgo said."

Marine le Pen
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/apr/08/french-politics-marine-le-pen-france-europe

"Le Pen’s meteoric rise in the first-round polls mirrors Zemmour’s decline since the Ukraine invasion.
In mid-February, they were both on about 16%. She is now on 22-24%, with Zemmour slumped at 8-10%. It is one of the great oddities of the campaign that Zemmour has paid dearly for his Putin idolatry but Le Pen – an even more enthusiastic Moscowteer – has not.
Zemmour’s extremism on race and Islam allowed Le Pen to present herself as a mainstream politician close to ordinary people. She spotted early the opportunities provided by low wages and high prices. Since the Ukraine invasion, she has reaped electoral benefits by connecting Russian sanctions – of which she disapproves – to the cost of living."

le pen is striking a chord with anti islam urbanites
a number that has grown exponentially since the middle eastern 'refugees' were foisted upon them.
almost half a million in the last 6 years.
this is not going to end well.

You do have to see the irony in the situation  though  - France was happy enough to colonise their countries years ago, but now not too happy when they come to theirs to live.
I wouldn't wish Marine le Pen & her lot on anyone, wherever they may have been born.

The two leaders in a TV debate.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-61166601

"Far-right leader Marine Le Pen has fallen behind centrist Emmanuel Macron in the opinion polls but millions of voters are still undecided.

It did not take long for the two-hour-45-minute clash to burst into life.

The two candidates confronted each other on the cost of living, Russia, climate change and immigration.

Ms Le Pen said 70% of the French people believed their standard of living had fallen over the past five years and she would be the president of civil peace and national brotherhood. "We need to give priority to the French in their own country," she said."

Anti Islam? I see it more as anti women.

Once again tools of the patriarchy seek to tell women what they can or cannot wear. How come Pen isn't seeking to ban turbans? Or beards? If I was living in France I would be wearing a headscarf as often as I could.

Bastards.

Indeed - imo all religions should be banned from requiring their followers to wear any type of clothing, hair or beard style - perhaps on pain of having their assets seized & confiscated, the proceeds to be used to educate people about violence & create shelters for women who've been the victim of it.
I think I may be getting more radical as I age. Rolleyes Big Grin

I just had to go & google didn't I!  It seems to have been Madeleine  Albright.

Macron has won - he may be far from perfect, but clearly the French decided on better the devil you know than the far right Marine le Pen & her hateful lot.

Indeed it is - as a species, we could learn a bit more tolerance & understanding of each other. Or even a lot more. Smile
