Mandatory vasectomies? - Lilith7 - 21-05-2022

For young men. it sounds interesting, could work but is highly unlikely to ever happen there. I don't agree that it should be mandatory thought, it should be an option.

Oklahoma State Rep. Mickey Dollens (D) floated an idea to other state legislators this week ahead of the passage of Oklahoma bill HB 4327 which bans abortion at the point of conception, leaving only exceptions for rape, incest, or in cases where the mother’s life is at risk.
Dollens invited those who were voting for the bill to consider a bill he is thinking of introducing next year, one that would give mandatory vasectomies to young men.
“I would invite you to co-author a bill that I’m considering next year that would mandate that each male when they reach puberty get a mandatory vasectomy that’s only reversible when they reach the point of financial and emotional stability,”

"''If you think that's crazy, then I think that maybe you understand how 50 percent of Oklahomans feel, as well,'' he added.

The radical bill proposed by Dollens, which has little to no chance of passing in the red state, comes on the heels of the Oklahoma Legislature approving the country's most restrictive abortion law.

Dollens questioned the necessity of the new law, instead proposing that its passage was the result of trying to score ''cheap political points'' ahead of the midterm elections.

''Here we are ... second to last week of session. Is this really a priority?'' he asked. ''No, if it was a priority, we would have heard it weeks ago.

What this is, is an attempt for cheap political points in a competitive primary.''

Big Grin Big Grin

And this idiot wants contraception banned! Dodgy Big Grin

"During an interview with Catholic journalist Michael Voris of Church Militant, candidate Jacky Eubanks, who is endorsed by Trump was asked if she would ban birth control.

“Would that ever come to a vote in the Michigan state legislature, and if it should, I would have to side with it should not be legal,” she said. “I think that people believe that birth control is better… because, ‘Oh then you won’t get pregnant and you won’t need to have an abortion.’ But I think it gives people the false sense of security that they can have consequence-free sex. And that’s not true! Sex ought to be between one man and one woman in the confines of marriage… and open to life. Absolutely.” Jacky Eubanks said."

They are easily reversible. Pure common sense imo...

Well yes, we'd think so as would many others.
But for some, the merest hint of such a thing is anathema - & oddly they're often the very people keen to restrict women's contraception & rights to abortion. I think it needs to be an option, & encouraged - obviously after plenty of education on contraceptives.

After reading this I don't think many will be keen to have one.

Vasectomy reversal is more difficult than a vasectomy and should be done using microsurgery, in which a surgeon uses a powerful surgical microscope to magnify the vas deferens as much as 40 times its size. This type of surgery requires specialized skills and expertise.

How quickly can you reverse a vasectomy?
Vasectomies may be reversible up to 20 years or longer after the initial procedure. But the longer you wait to reverse a vasectomy, the less likely that you'll be able to have a child after the procedure.

Vasectomy reversal costs can run anywhere from just $800 to more than $70,000 or more. The cost by most leading urologic experts runs from about $8000 to $15,000 with a few as high as $70,000, all for the very same procedure with the similar results.

Even so, its still less complicated & cheaper, then a tubal ligation, which involves abdominal surgery & takes some time to recover from.

If it was up to me, all  contraceptives &
surgery to prevent pregnancies would be paid for with taxes, so free when the need arises.
