Commodore VZ 2005 head gasket leaks - gyrogearloose - 10-11-2022

Overheating, constant misfire, exhaust gases in the coolant.

My mechanic is talking $3K upwards for new gaskets on both banks, is this in the right ballpark?

Probably close to that...or more. It'll need the cam chains done too...that's 3 chains, tensioners etc. A lot of labour required to work on those engines, compared to the 3.8 which was simple and bullet proof.

Does anyone here have a Holden HBA Commodore engine for sale?

Got a complete 2002 VX 'wagon that you can have for less than the cost of a gasket job on your VZ. 260,000km, new radiator, good tyres, average condition for age and mileage. Located in New Plymouth area. Owned by us since 2004 and now replaced by an EV. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/holden/commodore/listing/3860287591?bof=T3ZUZeSY
