Has Chris Hipkins got a chance to win 2023 Election? - zkted - 22-01-2023

Unfortunately I think he has a chance because he is calling New Zealand New Zealand instead  of aoteroa. My kids at Chinese NY lunch picked up on it and to my horror said they would probaly vote for him.

I think it will definitely give Chris brownie points, but I'm sure as he'll not giving labour a third term.

Yes he has a very good chance of winning for Labour because he is a reasonable man with a good Socialist background who cares about people, up against a proto-Nazi who is the leader of a Right Wing Capitalist national party who only care about business and gaining money through profiteering, the workers are not even a concern.

Unless Chris Hipkins can undo the damage done by his predecessor and more, it is unlikely Labour will be successful in the next election.

Probably, Labour will have to wait for another 10 (at least) to get back into power!

Having said that, I can't see who (with leadership capability) will lead National back into power.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter which party is in Power, makes no difference, in my opinion.

RE: Has Chris Hipkins got a chance to win 2023 Election? - Oh_hunnihunni - 26-01-2023

It absolutely matters. Look back over the last seventy years and you can see the patterns that follow centre left or centre right governments. Especially in economic productivity and social cohesion. The cliche that the centre right runs down social investment in favour of enriching its conservative base is based on actual statistics, not just opinion. That base doesn't need public services, it can afford to go private. So tax breaks take priority over public transport and new public hospitals. Landlords are more important than their tenants.

And that conservative base knows it.

Oh it makes a difference alright, with national in power the ordinary people who form the backbone of the economy get done-over more than with Labour in power.

But overall you are right, nobody is going to get the supposed paradise on earth, a successful economy, whatever that is, will never happen.

All that takes place is the rich get more or less of the overall money taking more or less of the cash the ordinary workers should be getting, legislation is required to keep this tendency in check which is sadly lacking at the moment.

So through ripping off the poor the rich get swimming pools, better houses, faster cars etc, contribute to global warming even more and pat themselves on the back that they deserve it because they are more "enterprising" than the average citizen.

This thread is an excellent example of why you should not discuss politics or religion in polite company. It is quite obvious that there are some who have a fixed view either left or right and regardless of what anybody says they are not going to change their minds. It is pointless to attempt to do so.

I find watching sports pretty pointless, but some people call it fun.
