Corrupt Mico SD Card - driftwood - 08-03-2023

I have two, unformatable micro SD cards.
I was going to bin them, most likely will.
Thought I'd have a go at fixing them.
Can anyone recommend a free software that will do the job.
I have looked at a few but they all seem to be for recovery, not repair.

recovery is all that you can and should do, repairing is not really viable, mostly because of the uncertainty of the reliability of it... If you need to recover any data I mostly use testdisk/photorec...

But having said that... you could try something like this
https://hddguru.com/software/HDD-LLF-Low-Level-Format-Tool/

But even if it did work I really don't think I would trust it again - note it destroys all data

I think the HDDGURU is more suited for Hard Disk drives.

I've got a 2gb Sandisc & 64gb Adata.

it specifically states SD, MMC, MemoryStick and CompactFlash media so you should be alright...
Quote:This HDD Low Level Format utility is free for home use. It can erase and Low-Level Format a SATA, IDE, SAS, SCSI or SSD hard disk drive. Will also work with any USB and FIREWIRE external drive enclosures as well as SD, MMC, MemoryStick and CompactFlash media.

I must have missed that piece of info when I was looking through the web page.
I'm just trying EaseUS atm on the Adata 64gb.
Seems to be taking a long time to achieve not much.

I'll give the HDDGURU a whirl next.
These cards are just used to hold programs for Uniden radios.
The master program is stored on a PC.
The program is written to the card in the radio.

Data Recovery is often very slow, you have to remember the programs are trying to look for and rebuild damaged files.

Its not uncommon when doing a recovery on a Std Hard drive for it to take days sometimes. longest one I have done took over a week on a 160GB drive.

One Program I use took over 40 minutes to recover 127MB of deleted files from a corrupted SD Card. The Actual Card was 128GB

The Program I was used was Disk Drill Download page The Free version is limited to 500MB  If you want more you have to pay for the upgrade to Pro. Most of those Program will have a limit as to how much they will allow on a Free version (including EaseUS) Just because they might find files doesn't mean they will actually be usable, depends on the damage,  overwritten etc. BUT they will let you see if they are there.
