CAD programs - brucem - 30-03-2023

I have had several cad programs in the past starting with Imagineer Technical, a good but expensive approx $1000 in the late 80's when I was still working, it later became Smart sketch, and I couldn't upgrade.  Since then I have had some cheapies, at least one dissapeared without trace, leaving lots of drawings on file and unable to be opened.  I am looking for something cheap (preferably free).  I have found some free ones on the net, and one - Librecad looks as if it would be OK.  Does anyone know it or can recommend an alternative?

I have never used any but you could have a look FreeCAD, from the comparison I saw it seemed to get a nudge

Since my previos post I have downloaded and have been using Librecad, it seems to do what I want although I have a few problems, mainly with circles and saving files.  Probably not readig the instructions.  "If all else fails READ THE INSTRUCTIONS"

I have previously tried Freecad without much luck>
