Is it just me, or does this seem deeply obscene at a time when people elsewhere in our world are starving? We're a very strange species.

If a help(!!) desk tells you there is a ten minute delay, there will be ample time for 76 hotdogs. Also, around 400 litres of water, 87 library books, 10 loaves of bread plus other essentials for an on-line hold session of being reminded that "your call is important to us (that's why we're keeping alive for so long)". Other essentials for smart ass answering machines are enough medications for an aeon, a few birthday cakes, a similar qty of xmas puddings, extra super strength tranquilisers, and a good supply of fresh clothes. A hair dresser to call every two or three weeks is handy for those who don't cut their own hair.
In this instance of telephone use, deafness is more of an asset than people who've never been in a Gov't hold queue would ever believe possible; and not just to balance the deaf on your end with the dumb on the other.

In reality it's all the other scraps that aren't the marketable pieces of their bodies. Nipples, vulvas, penises, anuses, tails, etc. Not organs, no, but still other things that people also find horrifying and wouldn't eat if the intact body parts were placed in front of them. The "click here" link you included even gives the info that the "pork" in hot dogs is "most commonly pieces of meat cut away from larger cuts like chops or tenderloin", meaning all the unfavorable parts. Also, note the "most commonly". Other unfavorable things do get put in as well.. Why not just be honest?"
Also a lot would come down to how enthusiastically the meat harvesting of the animal in question was performed I guess.
And is respect to your bun comment, from my experience American bread products are often sweet to the point that they are disagreeable in a savoury context.

Having made brawn in the past from a pigs head I know there is plenty of protein to be harvested limited only by how keen you are. Eyes, brain, nasal tissues and tongue are all there for the taking so it would come down to a return on effort involved in a commercial situation and mechanically harvesting minimises the effort involved.

In my last year at school I worked as a kitchen hand on Fridays and Saturday nights in a Chinese restaurant. One of the first tasks was to meat strip boiled chickens.
There was no waste after we'd finished that job! A valuable lesson...
