Why would you name a child - Oh_hunnihunni - 27-10-2023

...after an erotic romance novel? And a better question, why would the Registrar of Births permit such a cruelty?

and here I thought it was all about anti-colonialism or some such... But yes, more thought could have been given to the name...

Bloody awful name, poor litle soul. I'm amazed that it was allowed, it would have made his life difficult had he survived.

RE: Why would you name a child - Oh_hunnihunni - 27-10-2023

Some families should not be allowed to have children. For the sake of those children...

RE: Why would you name a child - zqwerty - 27-10-2023

The name itself should have been a red flag.

No can't agree on that - too many would immediately want all poor people sterilised, on grounds of their poverty. Or, some would find other 'grounds' such as race or religion.

We're just not a very nice species sometimes.

Better if we could start by teaching people how to be good parents. The very suggestion of it though would be chucked in the 'too hard' basket.

You'd think so, yet apparently not. Bizarre.

My faith in bureaucracy is restored... Such a pity they didn't make a call to child services.

Intergenerational habits and attitudes are very hard to change. And we each have our own version that influences us throughout our lives. As the Jesuits say, give me the boy till the age of seven and I will show you the man...

sadly, i have been thinking along the lines of some of the names almost guarantee the bearer will be a victim of child abuse. its almost like the parents know the name will be in the headlines and name them based on that.

That sent me looking; we know this child wasn't actually registered due to his name being rejected & I wondered what other names had been rejected elsewhere.
Interesting that one rejected here a while ago was Tallulah does the hula from Hawaii

Others eleswhere include Chow tow (smelly head) Martian, Rogue, Nutella, Mini Cooper & M3. In Oz, some rejected there include Spinach, LOL & Batrman.
