School Haka, spitting at feet of David Seymour - Lilith7 - 15-03-2024
A student involved in the Haka spat at the ground near David Seymour's feet.

"A student spat on the ground in front of ACT leader David Seymour during a school visit in Palmerston North.
Seymour was visiting Freyberg High School on Thursday in his role as associate education minister.
A video shared online showed students performing the haka Ka Mate as he came outside.
At the conclusion of the haka, a student holding a tino rangatiratanga flag approached Seymour and spat at the ground by his feet.
School staff could be seen creating a human barrier between the students and Seymour.
Students then followed him to his Crown car.
Seymour had gone to Freyberg to meet with school leaders about "the impressive work they're doing around attendance", he said."

Seymour told Stuff the spit did not hit him.
He said the student spat at the ground in front of him and called the incident a bit “theatrical”.
The protest came just over a week after Seymour described free school lunches as “wasteful” public spending and argued that the new Government should cut them.
Freyberg High School receives free school lunches as part of the Ka Ora, Ka Ako, programme.
Seymour attacked free school lunches during the election campaign, describing them as “wasteful”, “unaffordable”, and a “marketing stunt”. He urged National to abandon the programme if it got back into power.
As the minister responsible for the policy, Seymour told the Herald: “I take the issue of free school lunches extremely seriously, and it is under consideration as part of the Government putting together a Budget."

They should have beaten him with something solid like a nephrite jade Mere.
Comes a time when harsh words make no difference and more persuasive methods are required, especially concerning right wingers with no common sense but plenty of zealotry, it's not even an adult philosophy, more one of first year University students who can't think for themselves, Ayn Rand has a lot to answer for, a very silly woman.

Jewish friend of mine who was middle aged by this stage suddenly had a big thing with her "philosophy", kept quoting from the books, I didn't even tell him that I knew all about it at/from quite an early age and just broke off all contact with him, there are some things that are beyond the pale.
He was a person who was just rebellious for its own sake, reactionary rather than philosophical, just wants to shock, went through a big punk phase, like so many.
I realized he had nothing to offer and said goodbye.
David Seymour is the same sort of person.

David Seymour seems to have no idea of the reality for most voters - that, or he knows very well & simply does not care how difficult it is for some now.\
We had a teacher in high school who recommended her books, & vaguely remember reading one or two back then.
She inspired Neo Liberalism - basically, every man/woman for themselves & devil take the hindmost. She disagreed strongly with welfare but towards the end of her life, had no other option.

Yes that's right about Ayn Rand including the welfare hypocrisy, got it in one Lilith7, a terrible human being, so right wing like many Russians I have known over the years.
Even though they generally don't believe in god they all seem to feel that we are on a path to some sort of enlightenment and if we all work really hard but live austere lives some how this marvelous state of being will take place; they don't seem to realize that no one is going anywhere and in fact our best days may well be behind us together as a group.

"An open letter of solidarity to the students of Freyberg High School has been signed by thousands of people across the country.
It follows the Palmerston North High School saying some of its students would go through a disciplinary process after performing a haka at ACT Party leader David Seymour on Thursday.
Students performed Ka Mate whilst the associate education minister was leaving the school to show they strongly disagree with ACT's policies towards Te Tiriti o Waitangi. A video shared online showed that at the conclusion of the haka, a student holding a tino rangatiratanga flag approached Seymour and spat at the ground by his feet.
The letter praises the students for showing leadership and honouring tikanga by standing with every hungry child and worried Māori parent in the country.
"Your stand has come with a price, and we also want to say: that price is unjust. It is colonial, it is biased, and it is designed to keep you down."
More than 7000 people have signed the live document including psychiatrist Hinemoa Elder and singer Ria Hall.
Wellington Regional Councillor Thomas Nash said lawyers got in touch with him to say they were keen to provide support to the students pro bono if needed.
RNZ has contacted Freyberg High School regarding what has been done as part of its disciplinary process. "
