Probable Labour win in UK - Lilith7 - 05-07-2024 According to the BBC, it looks very like a landslide victory for Labour, after years of Tory govts. It's going to be very interesting to see what happens there; hopefully not yet more of divisive Neo Liberalism. https://www.bbc.com/news/live/cn09xn9je7lt RE: Probable Labour win in UK - Oh_hunnihunni - 05-07-2024 Hee hee... watch and weep Nats! RE: Probable Labour win in UK - dken31 - 11-07-2024 There is no such thing as a perfect electoral system, however it appears that the UK's desperately needs improving. Labour received 34% of the vote, but get 63% of the seats in government. Conservatives received 24% of the vote, but only 19% of the seats. Reform & the Greens received 14% and 7% of the vote respectively, but less than 1% of the seats each. Regardless of whether or not "your" side won / you're happy with the outcome, it is difficult to argue that it is a truly democratic outcome. https://fee.org/articles/labours-historic-win-a-victory-shrouded-in-electoral-disparity/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR34jLOIpSgcRZrbA5gZD1NjF5i72CN5dnxqreQyW0DUXD9a1y7cWXWzz2Y_aem_TDYNmGTmBP70GCDlqA5hJQ RE: Probable Labour win in UK - Lilith7 - 11-07-2024 Other countries have made changes to their system, including us so they may eventually change theirs too. |
