"Smishing" scam - Lilith7 - 03-10-2024 Never heard of this one before, but it sounds quite nasty. Similar to phishing, it attemptds to get bank account details using technology not seen here previously. https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/529737/teen-arrested-for-smishing-scam-using-technology-never-before-seen-in-new-zealand RE: "Smishing" scam - harm_less - 03-10-2024 This is only a problem for those silly enough to click on a link in a received email. The banks and most reputable online traders have desisted in sending links within emails or texts these days so if you receive messaging with a link in it it's an immediate red flag. RE: "Smishing" scam - Oh_hunnihunni - 03-10-2024 A friend is looking for a rather rare object. I found one she might be interested in and sent her a link. She growled at me, telling me she won't open any links... Red flag perhaps, but what is the point of the interweb without them? RE: "Smishing" scam - nzoomed - 06-10-2024 Seems quite an amateurish attempt by some kid, but sadly many people still fall for these scams, I see a fair bit of it. |
