RE: New Laptop for SWMBO - psycik - 04-11-2024 what about it is requiring a replacement. Is it just slow, or hard drive full, or broken? Is putting new ram an option and/or replacing a hard drive with SSD, or replacing existing SSD with larger. RE: New Laptop for SWMBO - driftwood - 04-11-2024 When she gets a new one, I get the old one. RE: New Laptop for SWMBO - Bryan - 04-11-2024 Cunning! The Chinese 'issue' had put me off for some time, but I researched extensively and putting that aside it rated very well. I usually buy HP but went with the Levono for the 16' screen. So far, so good. Soon I'll take my tinfoil hat off. RE: New Laptop for SWMBO - driftwood - 04-11-2024 I haven't researched laptops since I got the last one, so I'm a bit out of touch. I just done the rounds of the local toaster shops on google to see what's offering. So, it's looking like: Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo or Microsoft. My Lenovo is 1TB storage, 16GB memory, and an i7. For that budget you can have a big screen, I'm not sure why you want to settle for 13-14". https://www.harveynorman.co.nz/computers/laptops/lenovo-ideapad-slim-5i-9th-gen-16-laptop-intel-core-ultra-7-16gb-ram-1tb-ssd-cloud-grey-83dc001xau.html RE: New Laptop for SWMBO - driftwood - 04-11-2024 That certainly is a good deal if you want a larger screen. Her previous one was a 15" and she thought that was big enough. She likes the 14" one she has now. Besides that, I'm not sure how a 16" would like to be picked up by only one corner. We also have desktop systems here with large screens if needs one. RE: New Laptop for SWMBO - Olive - 04-11-2024 Depending on your mother's budget of course, but I've been really pleased with my MacBook Air M2, which I bought about two years ago when my old iPad started to fail. My husband recently bought a MacBook Air M3, which for everyday use has no advantages over the M2. RE: New Laptop for SWMBO - driftwood - 04-11-2024 Thanks Olive but I'm afraid there are no apples on the table. RE: New Laptop for SWMBO - Olive - 04-11-2024 Okay. What did this mean then? "Just starting to compile an apples list of similar models." RE: New Laptop for SWMBO - driftwood - 04-11-2024 Sorry, trying to be humorous. I'm after a Windows system. |
