Australia bans social media for under 16's - Lilith7 - 29-11-2024 Its going to be very interesting to see what effect this has. They're doing it with the best interests of young people in mind, but no doubt some ingenious human will find a way around it somehow. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c89vjj0lxx9o RE: Australia bans social media for under 16's - king1 - 29-11-2024 can only be a good thing RE: Australia bans social media for under 16's - harm_less - 30-11-2024 Blocking teenagers from certain internet activities by digital means. Good luck with that! Teenagers are extremely computer savvy and highly motivated towards social contact so my guess is that TPTB are pissing in the wind on this issue. RE: Australia bans social media for under 16's - Oh_hunnihunni - 30-11-2024 I remember taking a hammer to my 13 yr old daughters mobile after she had crossed so many lines I lost my temper and took direct action. It was a lesson for both of us. Two days later I replaced the damned thing. That was 22 years ago, in a very different tech world. Good luck Oz. RE: Australia bans social media for under 16's - nzoomed - 30-11-2024 I dont know how they can enforce it and good luck getting elon musk to comply with Twitter/X, but I assume its going to require an upload or some proof of ID to verify your age or something? Simply asking for your age when registering wont be enough to stop underage from registering. I think the intentions are good around cyber bullying etc, and its not really healthy for these kids to be glued to their phones 24/7, its ridiculous when I see teens chatting across a dinner table using their phones on snapchat, etc without a real conversation, whats this world coming to? Its difficult to see how they can enforce it but I guess most people understand that the intentions are good - time will tell no doubt. |
