Its pretty cool how any member of the public can assemble a small cubesat these days and be somewhat affordable.
This looks more the size of a shoebox, but size is not so relevant with todays technology.
There are quite a number of satellite projects out there built by the public that are used for a number of things, most notably for amateur radio.
Due to their small size, they dont have thrusters to keep maintaining their orbit, but the lower cost makes up for it i guess.

You do have to wonder about that, do they eventually fall?

Hopefully on the head of the overly enthusiastic person talking nineteeen to the dozen about it... Rolleyes

Surely, surely, our world needs things other than this first?  Stuff like sufficent food & clean water, an end to poverty, world wide education, healthcare, housing, an end to idiot humand having wars...

Its in a very low orbit and is estimated to last about 1-3 years, depending on solar activity among other factors.
