I can login to my account without any issues.

Why do I need to reset my password?
Don't see anything unusual in my above account.
I hardly use this hotmail account.
Is this scam?

RE: MS Account Password reset code - king1 - 27-12-2024

so that is a request to reset the password...

IF it is your account and IF you have not tried to reset the password recently then in all likelihood it is someone else either intentionally or otherwise triggering the password reset... sometimes it could be a scammer trying to get in but it could also be someone who (inadvertently) thinks that it is their own long lost account and are trying to regain access to it...

You can check recent activity on your account
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/account-billing/what-is-the-recent-activity-page-23cf5556-4dbe-70da-82c8-bb3a8d8f8016

It might show IP addresses and locations of signin attempts..

Perhaps just check your password is sufficiently strong enough and that you have at least two forms of recovery access for the account ie another email and a phone number

RE: MS Account Password reset code - Galaxy01 - 28-12-2024

Good morning.

Checked recent activity and locations of sign in attempts and found there were so many unsuccessful attempts from all over the world trying to get in.

Something common or just my account?

I just checked mine just now and WOW. There was hundreds or more...
Perhaps hackers use robots to attempt sign in around the clock?

What a relief! I am not alone!! hahaha

RE: MS Account Password reset code - king1 - 28-12-2024

just make sure you use a reasonably complex password and don't reuse old/current ones...

One of the ways these guys get your passwords is from earlier security breaches which you can check for yourself below - if you can identify a breach (say yahoo or facebook) then you know that the password used for that account is out in the open and available to scumbags willing to pay for the data, hence the don't reuse passwords thing...

RE: MS Account Password reset code - Galaxy01 - 27-01-2025

Checked and found that my email address has been pwned. I actually hardly use this address .

Good thing is, I don't notice any unusual activities, so far ... of course, other than the endless "Password reset code' from MS.

Anyway, I have changed my pwd to a 'reasonably' complex password.

BUT, until now, I still get the email re 'Password reset code' from Microsoft every now and then except on week ends! Hahaha.. they need a break, too.

Looks like there's no other ways to stop it other than creating another email address ...

RE: MS Account Password reset code - king1 - 27-01-2025

have a look at the activity on my hotmail account - the top one is the only legitimate one, 4 or 5 a day from all over going back months - you can check yours here

even then it is usually only a matter of time before you end up in the same predicament again...

RE: MS Account Password reset code - paulw - 27-01-2025

Yiks just had a look at mine . Lots of attempts over the past few days.

RE: MS Account Password reset code - Galaxy01 - 27-01-2025

Why MS didn't make any attempt to stop all these nonsense?

Not a lot they can do other than enforce security protocols..

You can't stop people coming on your property, they'll always find a way if properly motivated

RE: MS Account Password reset code - Galaxy01 - 02-02-2025

Morning, folks.

Still receive that same annoying email almost every day, seems nothing much I can do about it! If I block it, then, I won't receive anymore from Microsoft!

How do you interpret the following clause from MS's email:
" .. If you don't recognize the Microsoft account to**k@hotmail.com, you can click here to remove your email address from that account. "

IF, I click the link to remove my email address from that account, does it mean that my Hotmail address will be removed and deleted?
I am not very clear about what it means.

The MS email is sent to my Gmail address.

**k@hotmail.com is the account that is generating these requests - is it yours, one you recognise?

If not then it would seem someone has mistakenly added your email address as a recovery email address for it.  and you should do what they suggest and remove your email address as a recovery option for that account

If it is your email address, then someone is clearly trying to gain access and you should probably look to  adding 2FA to it using the MS authenticator app...
